ended, four siblings went separate
ways. Years later, they rejoined to
build a successful hydroexcavation
firm with diverse clients.
Family
amily has always been important for Kenny Baker and his
three siblings. They were close growing up and eventually
worked together as well. Now, the brothers and sister are
running their own hydroexcavation company.
Baker, his two brothers and one sister started Baker
Hydro-Excavating after leaving the family logging business
where they had worked for most of their lives.
As a family, we started in the logging business thinking that was going to
be our career, says Baker. My dad had a sawmill with my grandpa, and after
my grandpa passed my dad and another family member became partners.
Baker and his brother Kevin worked at the sawmill along with their dad,
while younger siblings Wendy and Allan grew up around it.
Their father passed away in 2000, and the family lost control of the sawmill the next year. The four siblings were forced to find other work, but after 10
years in separate jobs, they joined forces again to start Baker Hydro-Excavating,
based in Mountain View, Wyoming.
The company started doing work in the oilfields with just one
hydroexcavator, but by mid-2012 there were five trucks in the inventory.
Now, the company also does utility and construction work, and the fleet
includes 11 hydroexcavators and 13 support trucks.
FINDING NEW WORK
After the passing of their father, Baker and his siblings Kevin, Allan
and Wendy had to relinquish control of the mill to another family who also
had ownership in the business.
The family members picked up new jobs Baker and Allan in nearby
mines, Wendy as a certified nursing assistant and Kevin with several
hydroexcavation companies.
In late 2010, Kevin approached Baker with an idea to start a hydroexcavation business. He talked it over with the rest of his siblings and wheels went
into motion. It was scary starting something new, Baker says. Our mom had
received a settlement from the sawmill business, and she allowed us to use a

IN THE OILFIELDS
At startup, Baker Hydro-Excavating found itself in the middle of an oil
boom, making that industry an obvious focus.
Oil and gas are still our biggest industries served, but we go to a lot of the
mines and do a little work there, Baker says. We work with utility companies
and we do work for the local highway department.
In the oil and gas industry, Baker Hydro-Excavating does jobs such as rig
cleaning, pit cleaning, pressure washing, oilfield tank cleaning, waste removal,
remote digging and hot-oil services.
I found more and more as we worked in oil and gas that we needed to
diversify, Baker says. Oil prices just tanked out, a lot of people are struggling
and oil companies are holding off on projects. We wanted to diversify a little bit
more so we didnt have to rely totally on the oil and gas industry.
In utility work, the company does slot trenching, daylighting and culvert
and cattle guard clean-outs. Cattle guards are obstacles used to prevent livestock from passing along a road that cuts through fencing surrounding a piece
of land. The cattle guards consist of a depression in the road covered by a grid
of bars or tubes, normally made of metal.
Throughout the year, water and dirt accumulate in the culverts and cattle
guards, blocking the flow of water or filling in under the cattle guard, Baker

A FAMILY AFFAIR
Working with family in a business can bring
stress, but the Baker family has found a way to
move past that.
It has its ups and downs at times, but in the
end we work together as a united team, Kenny
Baker says.
Kenny, Allan and Kevin Baker and their sister Wendy Gerrard have worked together since
they were young, first alongside their dad at a
family-owned sawmill, and now as shareowners
of Baker Hydro-Excavating.
While there can be struggles in working
with family, the four find that it can also make
their business stronger: They know each others
strengths and weaknesses and keep lines of
communication open.
We all have the same goal in mind to make
our business the best it can be: Providing good
service to our clients and knowing that our father would be proud of what we have built,
Baker says.
They each have their own duties. Baker
handles the office, Allan handles maintenance,
Wendy runs the safety program and Kevin works
in the field running a hydroexcavator. Baker and
Allan have kept their jobs at a local mine.
Plenty of other family members are
involved in the business. Bakers wife, Stephanie,
and Kevins daughter, Halie, serve as secretaries.
Gerrards husband is a laborer. Bakers sons also
work for the company, Russell as an electrician
and Marcus as a mechanic.
Says Baker, We work through the tough
decisions that in the end make us a better
business.

to it. We were asked to get this done in two days because it was where all the
lines from the wellheads were running into, Baker says. They didnt want it
down very long because it would shut down the wellhead then.
Another problem at the site was mobility: The site was fenced in with
barely enough room for trucks to move around. The company had five trucks
digging, each one taking a section and exposing the lines within it.
The debris was clay with some hard shale that we dug through to expose
the lines, Baker says. We were able to get it all done in time, and it took a lot
of teamwork.
Another recent job had the company digging holes for cement pillars.
The client couldnt get a drill inside the location where the pillars were to go.
Baker Hydro-Excavating crews remotely dug the holes using the hydroexcavators hoses.
The pillar holes had to be precise so they could pour in the cement,
Baker says.
MORE THAN JUST HYDROEXCAVATION
Just a year after starting operations, the company owners knew they had
an opportunity to expand services even more into something that didnt involve
digging. Thats when they moved into power washing services.
They complemented what we do, says Baker.
Baker and his brother Kevin found their way into the new service as they
traveled to oilfield sites looking for work. The brothers pulled up to a site and
talked to the manager who said there was no work for them.
As they began to pull away, the manager ran back out. They had
this building that was covered in film from oil compressors that four other

Baker says, We use the tools to clean buildings in the oilfields, using
environmentally safe cleaning agents along with the power washer to ensure

SAFETY BRINGS WORK
A big part of landing clients for Baker Hydro-Excavating is the use of
services such as ISnetworld, Veriforce and PEC Premier companies that
track contractors safety compliance certifications. Potential clients can look up
contractors through those services websites.
A lot of the companies we work for require us to have one of those three
services, Baker says. These companies are a resource for prospective clients,
informing them about your company.
Employees who work in the field must undergo Safeland training before
even stepping foot on a hydroexcavator. The company also requires employees
to take part in weekly safety meetings and conducts daily job safety analysis
reports on each job.

PIPE WRANGLER
Mechanical rig helps Michigan-based service provider
get a handle on efficiency and employee safety
By Ken Wysocky
ripping production pipe in and out of wells used to be a timeconsuming, high-risk task for roughnecks employed by Team Services
LLC, which provides well services and completion rigs for oil and
natural gas drillers in the Marcellus and Bakken shale plays. But that all
changed dramatically when the company invested in two mechanical pipe
handlers made by Hawker Well Works.
Before, it used to take crews from the Kalkaska, Michigan-based
company about a 12-hour day to manually install the 200 to 300 joints
30- to 32-foot-long sections of 2 7/8-inch-diameter production pipe
typically needed for each well. Each joint weighs about 225 to 300 pounds,
so wrangling them into the well while standing on a 25- to 30-foot-tall
drilling platform was difficult for rig handlers.
The joints are awkward to handle, says Tom Goosman, the North
Dakota area manager for Team Services, which was established in 2001 and
employs 150 people and operates facilities in Mercer, Pennsylvania, and
Williston, North Dakota. A couple or three guys have to pick them up by
hand and struggle with them.

www.hawkerwellworks.com; www.goteamservices.com
But the Hawker pipe handler trimmed installation time by more than
half, which provides great savings for the well owner or operator, Goosman
adds. By using this machine, we can work very fast, which is a big selling
point if you can trip pipe faster and more efficiently, then the customer
will call us again the next day. Every day we work is a sales pitch for the next
job. In this business, youre only a hero for a day.
The mechanical pipe handler, which weighs 20,000 pounds and can be
towed by a medium-duty truck, also reduces the risk of injuries, particularly
hand-related injuries, such as pinched or smashed fingers. Thats why
we try to incorporate as much mechanical equipment into the process as
possible, Goosman notes. When something mechanical breaks, you can
fix it. But if you break a hand, its pretty hard to replace.
Along with the Hawker pipe handlers, Team Services relies on mud
pumps made by National Oilwell Varco and Gardner Denver, mobile workover

LIFE IN THE
EAGLE FORD
Texas communities continue
growing, plan for future
By Greg Bates
22
GOMC
Barnes notes city residents seem to like having the oilfields in their
backyards.
There are a lot of folks that became millionaires overnight, Barnes says.
Theres one guy that someone told me makes almost $160,000 a day. That
was at $105 a barrel, so the poor guys only making $80,000 a day now. I
dont know if thats true, because you hear all the urban myths.
Its been an interesting start of the year for those who are working the
Eagle Ford in Gonzales.
The life of the Eagle Ford for the past three or four years has been slow
from about December to the first of March, and this year it hasnt been,
Barnes says. I dont know how to interpret that, because usually in the
winter time theres not a lot of truck traffic; theres not a lot of activity in the
area, but the activity is still there. I dont know if these guys are trying to
produce all that they can.
Cotulla: Almost tripled its population
Down the road 160 miles to the southwest of Gonzales, the City of
Cotulla is also reaping the benefits of the Eagle Ford.
Cotullas population has shot up in the last four years from 3,600 to just
shy of 10,000. During the day, it is estimated the population reaches 15,00016,000, according to City Manager Larry Dovalina.
As far as the overall impact from its initial step, it probably tripled the
size of our city, created all these infrastructure demands and needs that we
ended up having to come up with, Dovalina says. In the process, we were
able to start working on the quality of life in the community. Weve had some
issues, but weve also had some good opportunities to get ahead.
The city is just 70 miles from the Mexican border and has changed
immensely in seven years since Dovalina took over his post. Back then,
Cotulla was hurting financially. However, thats certainly not the case
any longer.
It was a small, rural community as many of them are across the country,
and weve also got a small industrial component about 2 miles north of
us and weve got a different refinery south of us, Dovalina says. We are
sitting in a logistical hub where we benefit from I-35, which is a major trade
transportation route between Canada, U.S. and Mexico. We sit right on there,
so were able to take advantage of that and take advantage of the trucking
operations that go through here, and so were reaping a lot of benefits.
The Eagle Ford has created numerous jobs, and new businesses are
flourishing in town. In fact, Cotulla recently announced that in the last four
years its had $1.5 billion in investments that have been done in about a 10mile radius of the city.
The small town has also become a gold mine for the hotel industry.
I think we became hotel capital of the Eagle Ford Shale, Dovalina says.
We have about 23 hotels that have been constructed and I want to say weve
got three or four that are in the process of being constructed.
Karnes City: Seeking the right developments
Not every city within the Eagle Ford is jumping at the chance to add
any type of business and have exponential growth. Karnes City, which is
southeast of San Antonio, hasnt increased its population its steady at
3,000 people since the oil boom started.
Karnes City is trying to grow in an orderly manner and not react to
the change. The citys long-term plan is to attract developments that will

Some things we welcome with open arms and some things weve worked
very hard to keep out, Kroll says. We dont want the crew camps.

KEEPING A CLOSER
EYE ON PIPELINES
SCADA system could have detected leak before
more damage was done in North Dakota
By Cory Dellenbach
GOMC
In February, the Department of Mineral Resources hired two pipeline inspectors, filling positions that had been vacant
for months. The inspectors will oversee
more than 20,000 miles of crude oil,
water and other pipelines that fall under the
departments jurisdiction.
Under new legislation being proposed
to strengthen safety, operators of the pipelines would have to hire certified thirdparty pipeline inspectors to inspect their
work. One of the roles of the new state
pipeline inspectors would be to inspect
the inspectors and ensure that theyre
doing their jobs properly, Helms says.
By comparison, the state of Pennsylvania has six inspectors who are located
across the state and on call 24 hours a day
for emergencies. They check for compliance with state and federal gas pipeline
safety regulations.
CLEANING THE SPILL
The pipeline rupture released about
70,000 barrels of produced water, the largest spill of its kind in North Dakota. The
brine which can contain oil, fracking
fluid and other chemical compounds is
more difficult to clean up than oil, according to officials.
The levels of chloride and ammonia
detected at the rupture site were acutely
toxic to fish, according to the states
Department of Health. The spill contaminated groundwater near Blacktail Creek
and cleanup is expected to take at least
five years.
I think five years would be very
optimistic, says Dave Glatt, chief of the
Environmental Health Section. Ten years,
there still may be talk about this.
Before regulators will allow Meadowlark Midsteam to resume operation on the
produced waterlines, they are requiring the
use of SCADA, Helms says.
We want real-time pressure readings,
meter readings and temperature readings,
Helms says. GOMC

Tech Perspective
STREAMLINING
SERVICE
GOMC
Its easy to like something that just works so well, he says. Id say within
a day or so even my most resistant guys were doing as well as everyone else.
To leverage the newly open minds, We went back to the online tutorial
and showed them how it would make their jobs easier. We demonstrated
how the iPads could be used with voice commands instead of typing, which
is faster and easier. That was a major plus in their minds, not having to fool
around with those tiny keyboards.
Technicians are still responsible for the accuracy of their entries, but
an office person does proofread them before sending out any customer
paperwork. We worked all that out in the first three months, especially with
errors introduced by autocorrect. We had some good chuckles over those,
Spencer recalls.
UPS AND DOWNS
Still, Spencer admits the process wasnt without its rough spots. A
couple guys were scared to death of it and wanted nothing to do with the
tablet-based system, he says. So we wanted to make it something to be
proud of. IPads are still novel and carry something of a prestige factor, so we
made it clear we were issuing them each a personal iPad that they could also
take home to use.
There were, of course, the nuts-and-bolts issues to be expected in the
introduction of any new process. The first two to three weeks we felt like we
were constantly on the phone [with Smart Service] making sure we understood
everything, Spencer says. But he says that also revealed a positive. This is
one of the biggest advantages of Smart Service support was really, really
good. And the software itself is really reliable. In the first nine months of use
weve only had two downtimes of less than three hours each.
Mostly, its just been an adjustment away from paper-based idiosyncrasies.
The new process mirrors the old one in function, if not implementation.
When a call comes in, a dispatcher enters customer data and service call
information into the Smart Service program via desktop computer. When the
entry is complete, Smart Service offers two options: Send out one job at a time
to the field technicians iPad or send the whole days schedule at once.
Management opted for the whole days information to help technicians
plan their time and routes better. Theyre told to resync after each job in case
anythings been knocked out of or added to the job queue.
At the beginning of each day, a technician opens his first ticket on the
tablet via the iFleet module, which includes job details and a route map.
(Smart Service has GPS routing embedded in the program.) The technician
can access all information on each job, including Jim Dandys history on the
property, access points and other pertinent points.
Once on site and having finished the work, the technician completes the
invoice, including any notes and photos. Then the customer signs the work
order using their finger or a stylus on the touch screen to create an electronic
signature, which autosyncs with the office-based system. The technician may
accept payment or let the customer know they will be billed according to
prior arrangements.
At days end, administrative staff goes through all digital invoices.
Everything is proofread and those not already paid are mailed out as paper
invoices. The administrator hits a single button to post the days finished jobs,
which closes out those records in the master database.
SWITCHOVER BENEFITS
The software adoption has paid off in many ways, not the least of
which is a newfound confidence for Spencer based on the power of real-time
communication with the field.
Now I can have a less experienced plumber on a job site who can
use the iPads FaceTime function to call in to the office, literally show the
situation [through the onboard camera with video] and be talked through the
whole job [by a more experienced technician], Spencer says. They can also
take still photos of the job site and tag them to an invoice. This can protect us
from things such as being accused of, say, water damage or scratching a tub
when the damage was actually pre-existing.
If, for whatever reason, a technician must be pulled off a job before its
finished, a photo can be taken showing how far the work has progressed to
that point. This provides a good idea of whats left to be done for estimating
and scheduling purposes.
The switch to the tablet-based system has also had a positive effect back
at the office. Due to the elimination of redundant data entry, Spencer was able
to move a full-time person to a function hed long wanted to institute: timeresponsive quality-assurance follow-up calls.
Im not waiting a week now for the invoice to come in, but now doing
those calls within 24 hours, he says. We know when the guy has logged
off the job because the color [of that jobs entry] changes on screen. Were
actually trying to get it down to an hour after the service call so we can get
the best customer feedback.
As a management tool, Spencer says hes never had better in 25 years
of running businesses. Most managers never have direct contact with a
customer, he admits. Thats made through the technicians, so this system
also functions as an effective training tool. Records are turned in daily so
errors can be caught and addressed immediately.
Hes also noted a significant uptick in new business opportunities since
introducing Smart Service. I now capture a lot of bids right away, sent to me
direct from the field, which allows managers to follow up right away.
UNEXPECTED BENEFITS
So, was the switch worth all the expense and the hassle of forcing the
adjustment on himself and his entire staff? Absolutely, Spencer says.
The software was just over $1,500, and if I take into account all the
hardware and training time, the whole changeover probably cost a total of
about $25,000, he says. Put into perspective, thats probably a couple of
excavation jobs. The system probably paid for itself within the first couple
months in found opportunities to sell excavation jobs alone.
Hes now confident in making the last step toward taking advantage of
the power of the Smart Service program: linking into Jim Dandys GPS system
to tackle routing efficiencies.
This is accomplished through an add-on software module that can be
purchased separately, but was embedded in the comprehensive package he
originally bought. Hed known at purchase time hed want to move to using
it sooner rather than later, but didnt want to jump into GPS implementation
right off the bat.
You need to task someone with managing, monitoring and routing it.
Thats a significant investment in training and funding a new position. We
didnt want to bite it all off at one time. Hes pleased with his decision to let
his management and staff settle into a certain level of comfort with the whole
concept and operation of the digital system first.
He also appreciates a significant benefit he hadnt consciously anticipated
when first deciding to go paperless.
I was able to buy a second business based on the ability to get every
single email sent to me in real time so I could make instant decisions
notice lost business opportunities, collect credit card payments on time so
no balls got dropped. That was a strong factor in convincing the bankers that
giving me the loan to buy the second business was a good risk, even though
the two business facilities are in separate states.
Of course, every business is different, but Spencers story is a strong
case for all progressive contractors to consider what a move to a paperless
enterprise might mean for their futures. GOMC

EDUCATION IS
CONTINUOUS
5 pillars to ensure you never stop learning
By Walt Grassl
GOMC
4. Staying current.
Likewise, you need to stay current
with industry trends by reading industry
literature and blogs. If you are moving into
management, read leadership books and
blogs. New trends are frequently entering
the workplace. You have the choice to be
aware of and lead the change, try to catch
up or even worse resist the change.
Joining industry and trade associations
is another way to educate yourself on
current trends.
5. New and old generation.
A big issue in many industries is
getting several generations to work well
together. Each generation has different
learning and working styles. You have
several options to handle this reality. The
first is to do nothing, since its your fellow
employees responsibility to get with the
program. You can leave it to your companys
leadership to implement a program to fix the
problem. The higher percentage choice is to
educate yourself on the differences between
generations, the issues these differences
bring to the workplace and some things
others are doing to address them.
You can use this information to change
how you interact and the extent you can
help your company improve their processes.
Ben took Jacks advice to heart. After
graduating from college, he got a job with
another company in another field. His
education did not stop when he left school.
He subscribes to industry and management
blogs, has joined his industry association,
and seeks out challenging assignments
and develops relationships with other
successful employees at his company. He
has been identified by his management as
a high-potential employee and is one of the
youngest employees at his level. Bens future
is bright. Amazing what a chance encounter
in an elevator can do. GOMC

PROTECTING THE

Advanced-Composite Mats offer a safer alternative to wood mats in oil and gas fields
By Cory Dellenbach
GOMC
The DURA-BASE Advanced-Composite Mat System can be used for many applications on
the oil and gas fields. They can be used for safer footing for equipment and as landing
pads for helicopters doing work at oil and gas sites.
also notes that the composite material of DURA-BASE offers many advantages
over traditional wood mats.
The main advantage that DURA-BASE has over wood mats is their
longevity, Rabalais says. Some mats that we manufactured over 10 years
ago still meet our rigorous durability requirements and remain in our rental
fleet today.
The mats also offer a number of logistical benefits. Compared to wood
mats, which are never exactly the same size and weight, DURA-BASE mats
are precision engineered, ensuring customers get the same high quality with
each individual mat.
The mats are made out of a proprietary advanced-composite formulation
that is much lighter than wood alternatives, Rabalais says. This delivers
significant time and cost savings by reducing the required trucking. While
IN THE FIELD
DURA-BASE mats are versatile and are regularly used in the oil and gas
industry on both the drilling side and the completion side, providing a safe,
stable work platform for oil and gas operations.
You never know what environmental issues you may run into or how
the terrain may change while youre out there, Rabalais says. You may have
a nice, clean site to start, but when weather becomes a factor, your site can
quickly become inaccessible or unworkable.
Parts of the Gulf Coast consist of really difficult terrain. For some jobs, it
may be necessary to navigate miles of marsh or swampland in order to access
drilling areas, she adds. In these areas, the mats can be deployed to lay a
temporary roadway and build a solid work surface for the drilling to actually
take place.
In other regions where potentially hazardous spills might pose a risk to
nearby streams and other sensitive areas, the matting system is used to protect
spill containment liner systems, preventing them from puncture. This reduces
the risk of any hazardous materials leaving the site.
DURA-BASE mats are used worldwide. In North America specifically,
they have a large presence in the Marcellus and Utica shale plays, along the
Gulf Coast and also in the oilsands of western Canada.
completed quickly and they come out on the other end ready to be redeployed,
Rabalais says. The system cuts down on personnel time working with a
power washer, saving water overall. Water runoff, which can then lead to
other contamination issues, is also greatly reduced.
The mats are 100 percent recyclable, and the company offers an active
recycling program. This makes the mats significantly more eco-friendly
when compared with wood mats, which require the consumption of trees
for production.
COST SAVINGS
DURA-BASE mats also offer additional cost-saving benefits. Before
laying wood mats down, many operators must bring in aggregate sand or
rocks to build up a stable base for the site. The expenses associated with
the aggregate and related trucking, manpower and remediation costs add up,
Rabalais says. DURA-BASE mats provide such a stable surface that they can
cut down on aggregate by as much as two-thirds.
Because Newpark delivers, installs, cleans and removes the mats from a
given site, companies dont have to manage their own mat inventories.
The company is also continuing to improve the DURA-BASE system,
working with a focus on innovation.
Were undergoing a major construction project here at our manufacturing
plant in south Louisiana and are adding to our production and R&D
capabilities, Rabalais says. The market demand has been so robust that
were adding additional capacity and capabilities. Were very excited about
the future. GOMC
ENVIRONMENTAL BENEFITS
In addition to cost- and time-saving benefits, the DURA-BASE AdvancedComposite Mat System also offers plenty of compelling environmental
benefits. For example, the mats do not absorb foreign materials. The mats are
nonporous and clean easily, which dramatically limits the transfer of invasive
spores that can contaminate local vegetation. In addition, the mats will not
soak up potentially hazardous chemicals that may leak onto a rig pad, limiting
risk of cross-contamination between work sites.
Easy cleanup of the mats is enhanced by a unique cleaning system offered
by NMIS the T-REX Mat Cleaning System. This cleaning system improves
water management by recycling water. The DURA-BASE mats are simply
loaded directly into the T-REX and are quickly moved through the machine for
a full cleaning much like a car wash.
The mats go through and all the water is contained. Cleaning is

Case Studies
Solution
The operator consulted with Aggreko technical specialists, who worked with the operators field
operations team to engineer a strategy to scrub the toxic sour gas out of the stranded field gas supply and turn it into a viable fuel source to power a temporary
natural gas generation station. The solution was able to reduce the H2S levels in the supply gas to 0 ppm by passing through a tower equipped with SulfaBate
pelletized H2S scavenger, and included multiple gas-liquid separators to reduce the liquids content prior to introducing it to the generators, and a temporary flare
to purge test gas. The dry, desoured gas then entered 2 x 1 MW natural gas generators, which provided parallel and base load with the utility grid at 12.4 kV.
Result
This solution was able to power a fully operational well site in less than one week after startup and generated a greater than 10-to-1 payback. With the additional
electricity supply, eight wells were able to convert from rod pump to electrical submersible pump as the lift method. This conversion increased the operational
capacity of the field crew, who immediately began drilling new wells to continue toward the goal of 100 percent operation of available production. 877/798-5579;

Solution
PCE Pacific Inc. and SunWize Power & Battery partnered to provide a solution. A complete solar-powered leak detection system using three DP sensors and a
radio based I/O SCADA system powered by two SunWize power stations was installed.
Result
The placement of three sensors allowed the entire pipe to be monitored for pump output and sectionalized quickly for any rupture or leak problems. The solar
array and battery is mounted on the same antenna support structure that supports the NEMA-4 radio enclosure housing the radio equipment. 303/604-1125;

High-volume drill fluid mixing, cleaning
system made for quick setup, takedown
By Ed Wodalski
The D.O.T. trailer-mounted MCT-1000 HVU Sandman drill fluid
mixing and cleaning system from Mud Technology International is
designed for smaller mobile drilling operations (4,000- to 8,000-foot
wells). The unit sets up in one day and processes 1,000 gpm.
Weve taken the big mud recycling mixing systems and reduced
them down to a more compact, easier to haul and manage system, says
John Miller, CEO for Mud Technology International. We match it so all
components complement each other and produce what we call a closedloop system. One hundred percent of the fluids and solids are processed
through the mud system, eliminating the need for a reserve kit.
The filtering system is mounted on a rock-over design trailer (about
50 feet long, 10 feet wide and less than 13 feet 6 inches tall when hauling).
It has a three-section tank (about 375 barrels) with clean-outs on the
shaker discharge side and 1-inch bar grating covering open areas on top.
All plumbing is hard piped. Hydraulic landing legs help ease loading and
unloading.
Once this unit is washed down and ready to move, you raise the
trailer and back the truck underneath, Miller says. Lower the trailer onto
the truck, plug in your air lines, plug in your lights and youre ready to roll.
You dont have to disassemble all the components to move to the next job
or reassemble when you get there.
The complementary drill rig unit connects to the sites main power
system and includes a 110-volt step-down transformer mounted to the
