Lesson Plan Integrating Technology & Pedagogy
Standard 2, Key Idea 1
Information technology is used to retrieve, process, and communicate information as a
tool to enhance learning
o Examples include: use the Internet as a source to retrieve information for
classroom use, e.g., Periodic Table, acid rain
Lesson Objective: Student will be able to know how to use the periodic table as well as
recognize symbols for elements and the importance of certain elements. The student will use the
Internet as a resource in connecting elements and their symbol on the periodic table through
Quizlet online flash cards. They will then chose elements to further research to see where they
are used throughout their lives.
Introduce the Learning Activity
A. I will briefly describe what the lesson will entail. I will bring up a periodic table and
review lessons on trends and how to read the periodic table. From there, I will introduce
the lesson and tell the students that they will be taking fun quizzes online to study
elements on the periodic table and their use throughout the world.
B. The motivator for this lesson will be the use of computers rather than a textbook.
Provide Information
A. Before the students complete the activities, I will review terms and definitions regarding
the periodic table to help students with this lesson
B. I will interact with the class by discussing and asking questions about certain aspect of
the periodic table, such as elemental symbol, group number, and atomic number.
Provide Practice
A. Students will open Quizlet in their browser on a computer.
B. They will quiz themselves on 25 different elements. These quizzes will be of random
elements out of the 118 and will not be graded
C. Students will chose 10 elements that they were quizzed on and will research 1 interesting
fact about each that they did not know before this lesson. The facts should be placed in a
Microsoft Word document to be collected.
D. Students will share some of the interesting facts that they found with the class.
Provide Knowledge of Results
A. I will provide verbal feedback through our review discussion as well as our sharing of
facts researched.
B. Written feedback will be provided after I grade the handed in Word document of the
interesting facts.

Review the Activity


A. Students will summarize the important parts of this lesson as we discuss and share the
findings of the research.
B. I will ask if students have any questions regarding anything taught in the lesson on the
periodic table.
Method of Assessment
A. When students complete their Word document on their research findings of 10 different
elements, I will collect this for grading.
