The QuietTime system meets all applying requirements*) of the council of the European
community. The required tests have been done.
*) These are 73/23/EWG with Norm EN 60065:1993 and 89/336/EEC with Norm

Electric and electronic products must not be disposed of in the domestic waste. At the
end of its service life, dispose of the product in accordance with the valid legal

Care and safety information

Information relating to possible personal injury, electric shock and fire hazard possibilities
has been included in this list.

WARNING - When using electrical appliances, basic precautions should always be followed,
including the following:
1. Read all instructions before using the product.
2. The product should be connected to a power supply only of the type described in the operating
instructions or as marked on the product.
3. Do not open the cover of the QuietTime system under any circumstances.
4. Power is supplied through a polarized plug (one wide blade). Connect only to an outlet designed for a
polarized plug.
5. Keep the power cord away from other objects. Make sure that the cord is not twisted, placed in any lane
of traffic, or trapped under the piano
6. Located your piano with QuietTime system away from direct sunlight, water or moisture or hot or cold air
currents.
7. If the piano or the QuietTime system is to remain unused for an extended period of time, its power supply
should be disconnected.
8. If repair is necessary, refer only to qualified service personnel..
9. This product, either alone or in combination with an amplifier and headphones or speakers, may be
capable of producing sound levels that could cause permanent hearing loss. Do not operate for a long
period of time at a high volume level or at a level that is uncomfortable. If you experience any hearing loss
or ringing in the ears, you should consult an audiologist.
10. This product should be located so that its location or position does not interfere with proper ventilation.
11. Care should be taken so that objects do not fall an liquids are not spilled into the enclosure through
openings.
12. The product should be serviced by qualified service personnel when:
a) The power supply cord or plug has been damaged; or
b) Objects have fallen, or liquid has been spilled onto the product; or
c) The product has been exposed to rain; or
d) The product does not appear to operate normally or exhibits a marked change in performance; or
e) The product has been dropped, or the enclosure damaged..

About QuietTime
Welcome

Welcome to QuietTime, the most advanced product in its class.

QuietTime combines the original touch of an acoustic piano with
current digital piano technology. This gives you the perfect
combination from both worlds!
With your QuietTime System you can:

Registration

Still play your acoustic piano as usual;

Convert your acoustic piano into a digital piano by simply moving
a single lever;
Play and practice the piano without disturbing others;
Enjoy a wide selection of excellent instrument tones;
Use your acoustic piano as a MIDI controller*; and
Make use of the many other wonderful options.
* Special MIDI cable is required.

Please take a moment to complete the following information. Return

the information to us by mail or email. Our mail and email addresses
are listed in the Specifications appendix.
Please send us:
1. A copy of the invoice supplied with your QuietTime System.
2. A letterhead with your address and,
3. A note with QuietTime Systems model name and serial number.
(The name of the system is on the title page of this manual and the
serial number is listed on the QuietTime Systems control unit.)

Warranty

Your QuietTime System comes with a five-year warranty.

PianoDiscs warranty covers any damage arising from normal system
use.
Not covered by the warranty are: consumable parts and any damage
caused by incorrect use or foreign objects (e.g. water damage, fire or
opening the case). PianoDisc exchanges defective parts free-of-charge
and supplies parts needed to make repairs deemed necessary. An
authorized PianoDisc dealer must undertake any repairs made to a
QuietTime System.

II. The GT-2 Expander

Front View

A. POWER

Switches the GT-2 system on and off.

B. Beat-Indicator

Flashing according to the beat of the metronome.

C. Mode-Indicator

Shows the mode is active, there are three modes.

D. Display

Shows abbreviations and numeric values of functions.

E. Metronome-Button

Switches the metronome on and off.

F. Select-Button

Used to show and change values/functions.

G. Data-Buttons

Change of displayed values.

H. Record- / Play-Button

Used to operate the Recording and Playback.

I. Sound-Buttons (Piano/C.Organ) Here you may select either Piano or C.Organ as active
sound.
J. Volume-Control

Controls the volume of your performance in the headphones

and at the Audio-Output connector.

K. Headphone-Jacks + LED

Up to two headphones can be connected. The related LED

will turn from GREEN to RED, when the headphone plug is
plugged in correct.

A. Audio Input / Output

Stereo audio connectors for external audio equipment.

B. MIDI Input / Thru / Output

Connectors for external MIDI equipment.

C. Keyboard

Connector for the cable coming from the sensor strip underneath
the keys of your piano.

D. DC Jack

Connector for the DC plug of the power supply.

III. GT-2 Basic Operation

The advanced technology in your piano allows you to play your piano normally or, if required, to
play it silently. While playing your piano silently, only you can hear your performance through
headphones.

Playing silently with your GT-2 system

A. Make sure that the power supply is connected to your GT-2 and that it is properly connected to
a power outlet.
B. Move the piano mute rail lever in the Mute-position in order to activate the piano mute rail.

C. Switch on the GT-2 system by pressing the [Power]-button.

D. Plug the headphones into one of the headphone jacks and put on the headphones.

E. Piano is the standard sound after switching the system on. If you wish you may now select
Church Organ as your active sound instead.

F. Use the Volume-Control to set the volume to a comfortable level.

G. Enjoy your piano performance without disturbing anybody.

Note:
1. The left pedal (soft pedal) is cushioning the sound a little bit, when Piano is selected as sound.
The same pedal acts a sostenuto-pedal when church organ is selected as sound.

When the GT-2 system is switched on, it takes a few seconds for the system to get ready for
playing.

The integrated metronome has adjustable values for tempo, beat, rhythm and volume.
In this chapter you may learn how to adjust these values.

METRONOME
Tempo

Press the [Metronome]-button

The display shows the value for tempo. The standard value for tempo is 120 beats per minute.

Press one of the [Data]-buttons to increase or decrease the value.

Press the [Metronome]-button again to activate the metronome sound.

Start playing the piano.
To switch off the metronome press the [Metronome]-button a third time.
While using the metronome you can easily change the selected sound by pressing the [Piano]or the [Church Organ]-button.

Note:
If a numeric value is displayed without decimal point, then the value for tempo is displayed.
Press and hold one of the [Data]-buttons in order to increase or decrease the displayed value
rapidly.

Press the [Select]-button while the metronome is switched on and the tempo is displayed.
The far left digit in the display now indicates the amount of beats per minute.
If the beat-value is displayed and is ready for being adjusted the left decimal point is shown in
the display. In this case you are in the so-called Beat-Mode.

Press one of the [Data]-buttons to increase or decrease the amount of beats per minute.

Rhythm

Press the [Select]-button again

The decimal point will move to the center digit. This digit shows the Rhythm value.

Press one of the [Data]-buttons to select a different rhythm (see chart below)

Volume

Press the [Select]-button again.

The decimal point will move to the right digit which is the Volume Parameter value.

Press one of the [Data]-buttons to adjust the volume up or down.

Note:
1. If the metronome is switched on during recording, its sound will be heard through the
headphones, but it is not recorded.

The GT-2 system in your piano has a built- in one-track recorder. With it you can record your
performance and later play it back through the audio and/or MIDI outputs.

Record

Press the [Record]-button to start recording your performance.

The previous recording, if any, will be erased.

The display shows how long you have been recording, in units of seconds.

Press the [Record]-button again to stop recording.

Turning the power off, will erase the recording

Play

Press the [Play]-button to start playing your last recorded performance.

The display shows how long you have been playing.

Press the [Play]-button again to stop playing.

Demo Melody

Press the [Record]- and [Play]-buttons together to play the prerecorded demonstration song.

Press either the [Record]-button or the [Play]-button to stop the demonstration song.

How to change the Keyboard Touch

The touch of your GT-2 can be changed to accommodate players with a lighter or heavier than
average touch. To change from the default Medium setting to a different setting, do this:

Press and hold the [Select]-button.

Press one of the 5 black keys just below middle C to select the new touch:

C#3: Heavy
D#3: Medium heavy
F#3: Medium (default)
G#3: Medium light
A#3: Light

Release the [Select]-button.

IV. Calibration
The keyboard adjustment must be performed after installing the QuietTime GT-2 system in the piano.
The reason for this requirement is that the control unit of your GT-2 needs to keep travel data of each key, measured
from the rest position of the key.
CAUTION !
If the calibration is not performed, few, if any, of the keys will work correctly. It may be necessary to perform the
calibration again, whenever there is any change in height of the key or key deformation.

How to calibrate the keys

The keyboard cable and the AC power adapter should be plugged into the QuietTime GT-2 control unit and the
power should be switched off.

The mute lever should be in Mute position.

Make sure that nothing is sitting on the keyboard that might press a key down.

While holding the [Metronome]-button, turn on the GT-2.

Release the [Motronome]-button after three seconds. (wait till the light next to Sound is lit)

After about five seconds, the display looks as shown below

Press each of the 88 keys, one at a time, all the way down, with medium force and speed.

After you have finished pressing all of the keys, press the [Metronome]-button again to finish the calibration.
It will take a few seconds for the data to be stored in permanent memory.

When the data is successfully stored, the display will change as shown below and the piano is ready to play again.

The calibration procedure on the previous pages should make all of the keys equally sensitive.
If you find that some keys still play too loudly or softly, use the following procedure to adjust the sensitivity of
individual keys.

Adjustment of individual keys

Make sure the GT-2 system is switched off.

While holding the [Record]-button down, turn the GT-2 system on.
After 3 seconds, release the [Record]-button.

The display should look as shown below.

While wearing the headphones for monitoring the sound, play each key and listen to the volume of the sound. If
the sensitivity needs to be adjusted, use the [Data]-buttons to adjust the sound volume for the key that you played
at last. Adjust the sensitivity up and down till it matches the other keys.

The display shows the current keys sensitivity value from 000 to 255.
When moving to a different key, the last displayed value for the previous key is remembered.
When all keys requiring adjustment have been done, press the [Record]-button again to end the key adjustment.

It will take a few seconds for the adjustment data to be stored in permanent memory.

When the adjustment data is successfully stored, the display will change as shown below and the piano is ready to play
again.

V. Connecting to external Equipment

Connecting GT-2 to external Audio Equipment
Use two audio cables to connect the Left and Right Audio outputs of the GT-2 system to inputs of your audio system.
The provided signal is a: unbalanced, line level-signal.
See the diagram below, which is representative for a club or a performance hall audio system.

You may also connect an external audio source, such as a CD player, to the audio inputs of the GT-2. Using two audio
cables, connect the Aux or Line output of your source to the Left and Right Audio inputs of the GT-2. The sound in the
GT-2 headphones will now be a mixture of the piano sound and the external source sound. Use the volume control at
the external source to adjust the external sound source volume.

Connecting GT-2 to external MIDI Equipment.

In order to send MDI data to a General MIDI synthesiser or a computer, connect a MIDI cable between the MIDI OUT
port of the GT-2 and the MIDI IN port of your synthesiser or computer. See the drawing below.

Note:
Most computers do not have a MIDI interface built-in. You may need to add a MIDI interface to your computer
before you can connect it to your GT-2 system. In order to receive MIDI data from a General MIDI keyboard,
synthesiser or computer, connect a MIDI cable between the MIDI Out port of the external device and the MIDI In
port of the GT-2.
See the drawing below.
You may connect MIDI In and Out cables at the same time.
If connecting to a computer, be sure to turn off Pass Through in your software to avoid double notes.
Although only Piano and Church Organ sounds are available from GT-2s keyboard, several additional sounds
are available when connected to an external MIDI source.
