1 Checklist for Upgrading BOXI R2 to BOXI 3.0

1.1 General
1. Upgrading from Business Objects Enterprise XI Release 2, XI Release 2 MHF1 or XI Release
2 SP1, you must first upgrade to Business Objects Enterprise XI Release 2 SP2 or higher
before you upgrade to Business Objects Enterprise XI 3.0. All versions of Business Objects
Enterprise XI and XI Release 2 SP2 and higher are supported for upgrading to Business
Objects Enterprise XI 3.0.
2. Upgrading consists of replacing components and files from Business Objects Enterprise XI
with components and files from Business Objects Enterprise XI3.0. Several upgrade options
are available, depending on your current deployment and your preferred method of updating.
Mainly there are two scenarios to upgrade Business Objects Enterprise XI3.0.
Simple upgrade
Complex upgrade

1.1.1 Simple upgrades

1. If the Business Objects Enterprise XI 3.0 installer detects a simple deployment, where an
entire product line has been installed on a single computer, you have the option of performing
a simple upgrade to XI 3.0. In a simple upgrade to XI 3.0, the installer performs the following
steps.
Installs Business Objects Enterprise XI 3.0.
Points the Business Objects Enterprise XI 3.0 Input and Output File Repository Servers
(FRS) to the location of the existing Business Objects Enterprise XI or XI Release 2 FRS.
Creates a new XI 3.0 CMS database, and then copies the contents of your existing CMS
database to the XI 3.0 database.
Updates all of the objects in the newly copied CMS database to XI 3.0 objects.

2.
3.
4.
5.
6.
7.

8.

Disables the existing XI or XI Release 2 system.

If you perform a simple upgrade to Business Objects Enterprise XI 3.0, the installer
automatically disables the previous XI system. After the upgrade is complete, the Business
Objects Enterprise XI 3.0 installer asks you whether to uninstall the previous system.
It is highly recommended that you uninstall the previous version of the system as soon as you
have verified that XI 3.0 has been successfully installed.
If you choose to uninstall Business Objects Enterprise XI 3.0 later, you must ensure that the
previous version of servers are not re-enabled and not re-started.
In particular, enabling the older version of the CMS and File Repository Servers will conflict
with the XI 3.0 system.
If the installer does not detect a simple deployment, you must perform a complex upgrade.
This includes the scenario where your deployment's web and application servers are on
separate computers.
This option is only available to you when upgrading on a Windows computer.
If you are upgrading on a UNIX computer, you must perform a complex
Upgrade, even if you are upgrading from a deployment that has been installed
on a single computer.
If you are performing a simple upgrade, the installer stops your existing XI
or XI Release 2 CMS database. This means that your existing deployment
will not be available during the upgrade process, and users will not be able
to access Business Objects Enterprise.

1.1.2 Complex upgrades

1. If the XI 3.0 installer does not detect a simple deployment, or if you want to
install XI 3.0 across multiple servers, you must perform a complex upgrade.
In complex upgrades, you install a new Business Objects Enterprise XI 3.0
deployment, and then copy your content and system data from your existing
Business Objects Enterprise XI deployment to the XI 3.0 deployment.
You can install Business Objects Enterprise XI 3.0 on the same computer as
your existing XI or XI Release 2 system, or on a separate computer.
2. If you are performing a complex upgrade, you must manually perform the
following steps after you've finished installing XI 3.0:
Import your existing XI or XI Release 2 Business Intelligence content to
your XI 3.0 deployment, either by using the Central Configuration Manager
(CCM) or by using the Import Wizard.
If you chose to import content through the CCM, you must also
either re-point your XI 3.0 Input and Output File Repository Servers to
the location of your existing repositories, or copy the contents of your
existing repositories to the XI 3.0 repositories.
Enable the XI 3.0 services.
Add the Search Index Program.
Update any events that you copied to the Business Objects Enterprise XI 3.0 deployment
from your existing Business Objects Enterprise deployment.
Configure the XI 3.0 auditing database.
3. The upgrade process does not copy server and server cluster settings to
your new deployment. If your existing deployment is distributed across several
servers or clusters, and you want to replicate the same environment for your
XI 3.0 deployment, you must manually add the servers and clusters by using
the CMS.
4. Your Business Objects Enterprise XI 3.0 system can operate at the same
time as your existing XI or XI Release 2 system, whether the deployments
are on the same computers or not. When you are ready to, you can uninstall
the XI or XI Release 2 system.
5. If you are upgrading from Business Objects Enterprise XI Release 2, XI Release 2 MHF1 or
XI Release 2 SP1, you must first upgrade to Business Objects Enterprise XI Release 2 SP2
or higher before you upgrade to Business Objects Enterprise XI 3.0. All versions of Business
Objects Enterprise XI and XI Release 2 SP2 and higher are supported for upgrading to
Business Objects Enterprise XI 3.0.
6. The installation of a MySQL database is provided with the Business Objects Enterprise XI 3.0
installation package. You can use a MySQL database to create a new copy of CMS database
for XI 3.0, or you can use any of the other database servers that are supported for the
release. You cannot use the same database instance that your previous version of Business
Objects Enterprise uses. Before you copy data to the new CMS database, ensure that you
have the connection details about the database server that you select, and logon credential
information for the account used for connecting to the database instance. The database
account requires permissions to add and drop tables, as well as to insert, delete, and update
data in those tables.

7. Using a Business Objects Enterprise XI or XI Release 2 auditing database as the auditing

database for Business Objects Enterprise XI 3.0 is not supported. The Business Objects
Enterprise XI 3.0 installer does not copy the contents of the previous version's auditing
database to the new auditing database. If you want to re-use the auditing database from a
previous version of Business Objects Enterprise, the installer re-initializes the database and
permanently deletes all of its contents. In other words, if you specify the XI or XI Release 2
auditing database as the XI 3.0 auditing database, the contents of the previous version's
database will not be available after the upgrade. If you want to keep the contents of your
auditing database when you upgrade to Business Objects Enterprise XI 3.0, you must create
a new database instance for the XI 3.0 auditing database.
8. If you import events from a Business Objects Enterprise deployment, you must run an
EventUpdater script to associate the imported events with the destination Central
Management Server (CMS).
9. If you are upgrading performance management InfoObjects from Business Objects Enterprise
XI, you also need to upgrade the Performance Management repository. This is accomplished
from the Performance Management Setup page.
10. Although it is recommended that you upgrade all your Desktop Intelligence clients to XI 3.0,
you will have the ability to continue using Desktop Intelligence XI Release 2 clients against an
XI 3.0 server during the upgrade phase.
