ORDER OF SERVICE
INTROIT: Paul Mealor A Prayer of King Henry VI
CHAPEL HYMN:
Lead, kindly Light, amid the encircling gloom,
Lead thou me on ;
The night is dark, and I am far from home ;
Lead thou me on.
Keep thou my feet; I do not ask to see
The distant scene one step enough for me.
I was not ever thus, nor prayed that thou
Shouldst lead me on;
I loved to choose and see my path; but now
Lead thou me on.
I loved the garish day, and, spite of fears,
Pride ruled my will : remember not past years.
So long thy power hath blessed me, sure it still
Will lead me on,
Oer moor and fen, oer crag and torrent, till
The night is gone,
And with the morn those angel faces smile,
Which I have loved long since, and lost awhile.
Words: Blessed John Henry Cardinal Newman
Tune: Lux Benigna (J.B. Dykes)

Chaplain:
Choir:
Chaplain:

The Lord be with you.

And with thy spirit
Let us pray.

Almighty and most merciful Father; We have erred and strayed from
thy ways like lost sheep. We have followed too much the devices and
desires of our own hearts. We have offended against thy holy laws. We
have left undone those things which we ought to have done; And we
have done those things which we ought not to have done; And there is
no health in us. But thou, O Lord, have mercy upon us, miserable
offenders. Spare thou them, O God, which confess their faults. Restore
thou them that are penitent; According to thy promises declared unto

mankind in Christ Jesu our Lord. And grant, O most merciful Father;
for his sake; That we may hereafter live a godly, righteous, and sober
life; To the glory of thy holy name. Amen.
Almighty and everlasting God, mercifully look upon our infirmities, and
in all our dangers and necessities stretch forth thy right hand to help and
defend us; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
O Almighty God, who hast built Thy Church upon the foundation of the
Apostles and Prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the head corner-stone;
Grant us so to be joined together in unity of the spirit by their doctrine,
that we may be an holy temple acceptable to thee; through Jesus Christ
our Lord. Amen.
O Lord, we beseech thee mercifully to receive the prayers of thy people
which shall call upon thee; and grant that they may both perceive and
know what things they ought to do, and also may have grace and power
faithfully to fulfil the same; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
PSALM 84:1-5
How lovely is thy dwelling-place,
O Lord of hosts, to me!
The tabernacles of thy grace
how pleasant, Lord, they be!
My thirsty soul longs veh'mently,
yea faints, thy courts to see:
My very heart and flesh cry out,
O living God, for thee.
Behold, the sparrow findeth out
an house wherein to rest;
The swallow also for herself
hath purchased a nest;
Ev'n thine own altars, where she safe
her young ones forth may bring,
O thou almighty Lord of hosts,
who art my God and King.

Blessed are they in thy house that dwell,

they ever give thee praise.
Blessed is the man whose strength thou art,
in whose heart are thy ways:
Scottish Psalter, 1650.
Tune: Harington (Henry Harington)

FIRST LESSON: Chronicles 9:10-18

MAGNIFICAT: Leighton Second Service
SECOND LESSON: 1 Peter 2:1-10
NUNC DIMITTIS: Leighton Second Service
THE CREED:
We believe that God is Spirit,
And they that worship Him must worship Him
in spirit and in truth.
We believe that God is Light,
And if we walk in the Light, as He is in the light,
we have fellowship one with an other.
We believe that God is Love,
And everyone that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.
We believe that Jesus is the Son of God,
And that God hath given us eternal life,
and this life is in His Son.
We believe that we are children of God,
And that He hath given us of His Spirit.
We believe that, if we confess our sins,
He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins.
We believe that the world passeth away, and the lust there of,
But he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
Chaplain:
Choir:

Let us pray.
Lord have mercy upon us.
Christ have mercy upon us.
Lord have mercy upon us.

PRAYER OF KING HENRY VI
O Lord Jesus Christ, who hast created and redeemed me, and hast
brought me hither where I am; thou knowest what thou wouldst do
with me; do with me according to thy will, with mercy. Amen.
HYMN:
Rejoice, O land, in God thy might,
His will obey, Him serve aright;
For Thee the saints uplift their voice:
Fear not, O land, in God rejoice.
Glad shalt thou be, with blessing crowned,
With joy and peace thou shalt abound;
Yea, Love with thee shall make His home
Until thou see Gods kingdom come.
He shall forgive thy sins untold:
Remember thou His love of old;
Walk in His way, His word adore,
And keep His truth for evermore.
Words: Robert Bridges
Tune: Wareham (William Knapp)

SERMON: The Chaplain

The congregation stands, and this verse of praise is sung:
Now to Him who loved us, gave us
Evry pledge love could give:
Freely shed His blood to save us;
Gave us life that we might live:
Be the kingdom and dominion
And the Glory evermore.
Amen.

INTERCESSIONS concluding with the General Thanksgiving:

Almighty God, Father of all mercies, we thine unworthy servants do
give thee most humble and hearty thanks for all thy goodness and
loving-kindness to us, and to all people; We bless thee for our creation,
preservation, and all the blessings of this life; but above all, for thine
inestimable love in the redemption of the world by our Lord Jesus
Christ; for the means of grace and for the hope of glory. And, we
beseech thee, give us that due sense of all thy mercies, that our hearts
may be unfeignedly thankful, and that we shew forth thy praise, not
only with our lips, but in our lives; by giving up ourselves to thy
service, and by walking before thee in holiness and righteousness all
our days; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom with thee and the
Holy Ghost be all honour and glory, world without end. Amen.
HYMN:
Thy hand, O God, has guided
Thy flock from age to age;
The wondrous tale is written,
Full clear, on every page;
Our fathers owned Thy goodness,
And we their deeds record;
And both of this bear witness,
One Church, one Faith, one Lord.
Thy heralds brought glad tidings,
To greatest, as to least;
They bade men rise, and hasten
To share the great Kings feast;
And this was all their teaching,
In every deed and word,
To all alike proclaiming,
One Church, one Faith, one Lord.
Through many a day of darkness,
Through many a scene of strife,
The faithful few fought bravely,
To guard the nations life,

Their Gospel of redemption,

Sin pardoned, man restored,
Was all in this enfolded,
One Church, one Faith, one Lord.
And we, shall we be faithless?
Shall hearts fail, hands hang down?
Shall we evade the conflict,
And cast away our crown?
Not so: in Gods deep counsels
Some better thing is stored:
We will maintain, unflinching,
One Church, one Faith, one Lord.
Thy mercy will not fail us,
Nor leave Thy work undone;
With Thy right hand to help us,
The victory shall be won;
And then, by men and angels,
Thy name shall be adored,
And this shall be their anthem,
One Church, one Faith, one Lord.
Words: E.H. Plumptre
Tune: Thornbury (Basil Harwood)
