History! Almost every major section in history has had a leader.

During World War II,

there were many leaders that rose to the top, but this report is on Winston Churchill. He was born
on November 30, 1874 into a wealthy family and died January 24, 1965. Winston Churchill was
not a smart student in fact; he failed his first school and was kicked out. So he was sent to a
boarding school where he enlisted to get into the army. His father died when he was 21, he kept
begging his mother to come to boarding school, but she barely came. As an adult, he became
Prime Minister, wrote books, and painted paintings. Three major character traits about Winston
Churchill are his determination, courage, and wisdom.
The first character trait is his determination. While he was reporting on the Boer war in
South Africa (Between British and Dutch settlers). His group was ambushed and everyone taken
to prison. Then one day while a guard was looking away, he scaled the prison wall and jumped
down in a $375 suit and only for slabs of chocolate in his pocket. He jumped a train and rode it
until it stopped. After it stopped, he started walking again and came across a house where he
knocked on the door and pleaded to a person to let him stay. The person said, Thank god you
have come here, were the only house within 20 miles that wouldnt have turned you in. The
person helped Winston Churchill by hiding him in a coalmine until the next train came. When
the train did come, the person hid Winston Churchill in a little hole in the back of the train near
some hay bales. This shows Determination because determined people never give up until
whatever there doing is done, and in this case, Winston Churchill never gave up.
Next, the second most important character trait was his courage. In World War II when
Nazi Germany was invading all the European countries opposing him. Winston Churchill as
prime minister decided he was not going to let Nazis Germany invade his country. The first thing
Nazi Germany tried to do was take out the royal air defense so they could start invading Brittan

but they could not. In 1941, Brittan was trying to bomb Nazi Germany but was stuck with a
small squadron conducting nighttime raids. Then Nazi Germany did something stupid, they
attack there ally Russia, this made Russia an ally of Brittan. Then on December seventh
American Pearl Harbor was bombed, killing a bunch of Americans. On that night President F. D.
Roosevelt called Winston Churchill and said, We are in the same boat now and this boat will
not and cannot sink. This formed the great alliance of Brittan, America, and Russia. This show
Courage because he decided I am not going to let my country surrender I am going to fight, even
better win this fight.
The third and final character trait is his wisdom. During World War II Winston Churchill
signed the Lend a Lease act with America. This allowed Brittan to order vital war supplies on
credit from America. However, the money they was on credit had to be approved by congress. In
a naval war with Germany Brittan lost nine destroyers in ten days. This made Winston Churchill
as for some help from America. Therefore, they made a trade, 50 naval destroyers for a ninetynine year lease to some of the British bases in Newfoundland and the Caribbean. Some things
they got were some World War 1 Era bombers, World War 1 Era battleships, and some World
War 1 Era fighter jets. This shows wisdom because wise people know where they are weak and
strong, and so did Winston Churchill, so he traded to make his weak side better.
To sum it up, the character traits that were in this essay are what make Winston Churchill
the person we remember today. His wisdom, courage, and most of all his determination. Just
think what Brittan would be like without Winston Churchill to stand up to the Nazis. Even more,
without the Lend a Lease Act to keep Brittan in the fight. Finally imagine what it would be like
without Winston Churchill at all, instead locked up in prison. Winston Churchill matters because
he stood up to the Nazi onslaught, he escaped prison, and he led his country to victory. When all

is said and done, Winston Churchill made this world a better place by inspiring people to stand
up for what they think is right, whether others agree or not.
