Happy Valentines Day

Do you remember when you met
your true love? I will never forget the
first time I saw Brooke. I knew instantly
that she was the one for me. However,
the past ten years have not always been
perfect. There have been good times and
bad times, but love has always seen us
through. This is what Paul was talking
about when he told the church at Corinth
that “love never fails.” Although Brooke
is my true love, she is not my first love.
Jesus Christ wants to be your first love.
When He died on the cross for your sins
He exhibited a love that no man had ever
shown before or since. The question is,
“Have you forgotten your first love?” My
prayer for you this month is that you
remember your first love, as well as your
true love. God’s love will truly never
fail. Take the love He has given you and
share it with those around you every day.
If we do, this world will be a better place.

The month of February is the month of
love. We send flowers, candy, stuffed
animals and gifts of all kinds to the ones
we love. What would you give our Lord
and Savior? Remembering what He gave
us is the most beautiful gift of love we
could ever receive. When you give that
special gift this year, give it to honor the
love you have for Jesus Christ. Pray for
the ministry of our church as we continue
to grow and prosper to honor our Lord
and Savior.

A Walk With Me

With the beginning of 2010, all of us are
thinking of new things to accomplish and
past mistakes we have made. The reason
God doesn’t want to wipe your past
completely from your memory is because
He wants to use that part of your life to
help you move into the calling He has for
you. He will weave it into the foundation
of your ministry. He wants us to learn
from our past and firsthand see how He
can redeem it, but He doesn’t want us to
be stuck living in the past. How things
were done in 2009 are behind us.
Whether they worked out for the best or
not; they are the past. He wants us to
forget those things that are behind us and
reach forward to those things which are
ahead. Phillipians 3:13
Many people never get to the future God
has for them because they are perpetually
stuck in the past. There are endless ways
to get the word of God out and your talent
is needed. Spend time with God and ask
Him, what talent do I have, that you can
use, Lord. Listen to God and step out and
find where you are needed in Weogufka
Second Baptist Church. God is not
looking for ability, only availability. He
is looking for a willing vessel that is not
afraid of rejection or concerned what
others think. Always aim to please God.

“Amazing grace, how sweet the
sound”...So begins one of the most
February 2010
beloved hymns of all times. A staple in
hymnals of many denominations. The
author of the words was John Newton,
the self proclaimed wretch who once was
lost but then was found, saved by
amazing grace.
Newton was born in London, July 24,
1725, the son of a commander of a
merchant ship. When John was eleven,
he went to sea with his father and made
six voyages with him before the elder
Newton retired. In 1744 John was
impressed into service on a man-of-war.
Finding conditions on board intolerable,
he deserted but was soon recaptured,
flogged, and demoted to common
seaman. At his own request he was
exchanged into service on a slave ship.
He then became the servant of a slave
trader and was brutally abused. Early in
1748 he was rescued by a sea captain who
had known John’s father. He became
captain of his own ship, one which plied
the slave trade.
Although he had some early religious
instruction from his mother, who had died
when he was a child, he had long since
given up any religious convictions.
However, on a homeward voyage, while
he was attempting to steer the ship
through a violent storm, he experienced
what he was to refer to later as his “great
deliverance.” He recorded in his journal
that when all seemed lost and the ship
was would surely sink, he exclaimed,
“Lord, have mercy upon us.” Later he
reflected on what he had said and began
to believe that God had addressed him
through the storm and that grace had
begun to work for him.

For the rest of his life he observed the
anniversary of May 10, 1748 as the day
of his conversion, a day of humiliation in
which he subjected his will to a higher
power. “Thru’ many dangers, toils and
snares, I have already come; ‘tis grace has
bro’t me safe thus far, and grace will lead
me home.” He continued in the slave
trade for a time after his conversion,
however, he saw to it that the slaves
under his care were treated humanely.
In 1750 he married Mary Catlett. By
1755, after a serious illness, he had given
up seafaring forever. During his days as
a sailor he had begun to educate himself.
He was surveyor of tides at Liverpool,
where he came to know George
Whitefield, Deacon in the Church of
England and Evangelistic Preacher.
Newton’s self-education continued, and
he was ordained as a minister.
In 1767 he met William Cowper, a poet,
and became friends. They held a regular
weekly church service and began a series
of weekly prayer meetings, for which
their goal was to write a new hymn for
each one. They collaborated on several
hymns, which achieved lasting popularity
and through the years other writers have
composed additional verses to the hymn
which came to be known as.......
“Amazing Grace.”

Ladies Discipleship Training
Thanks to all our ladies for helping to
make our “Ladies Day Out” a successful
February 2010
and Blessed event. Throughout the day
we worshiped, laughed and cried together
as God honored us with His Holy
presence.
Proverbs 3 v 5,6 tells us to trust in the
Lord with all thy heart and lean not to our
own understanding; in all thy ways
acknowledge Him and He will direct our
path. What a blessing to know that as a
child of the King we don’t have to tread
this journey alone. God will guide our
every step if only we will let Him.
All our Ladies are invited to join us
Sunday nights in a study of the seven
churches that God spoke to John about in
the Book of Revelations. We are looking
at those churches in comparison to our
churches today.
We all are reminded to never allow
anything or anyone to come between us
and our love for Jesus Christ.

Calling all Puppets!
The Puppets presented a program on
Sunday, January 31st for the night service.
The skit and songs focused on the
importance of choosing our friends
wisely. Jessica Hallman and Leann
Kelley were the staring puppeteers. The
song, “It’s a Jungle Out There”, explained

the importance of being really upbeat and Business Meetings

everyone enjoyed the performance. Zeb
Baird opened the program reading our
Bible verses. I’m really proud of Zeb for
his interest in studying his Bible, keep up
the good work, Zeb.
We, the Puppeteers, hope to bring you
many more programs through the year.
Business meetings are held the second
Monday of every month at 6:00 pm.
Please bring a covered dish for supper
and fellowship before the meeting.
The next meeting is Monday, February
8th at 6:00.

As Christians, the Bible should be our

most prized possession. Let’s begin to
treat it as such with a new commitment to
God to read His word and learn more
about Him. If we meditate on what is
recorded in this Holy book, God will
reveal things we have never before seen.

What If

Ever wonder what would happen if we

treated our Bible like we treat our cell
phone?

What if we carried it around in our purses

or pocket?
What if we flipped through it several
times a day?
What if we turned back to go get it if we
forgot it?
What if we used it to receive messages
from the text?
What if we treated it like we couldn’t live
without it?
What if we gave it to kids as gifts?
What if we used it when we traveled?
What if we used it in case of emergency?
