The external examinations for Year 11s & 13s continue, with a few IB students completing their
last one on Wednesday. All IB Diploma students will have completed their secondary education
by the end of next week, with the final exam taking place Friday afternoon. For the past twenty
months it has been reiterated to them that the IB Diploma Programme is not a sprint but is a
marathon. Congratulations, you have all nearly completed your first marathon!
In honour of this milestone, next Friday evening we will be holding the Graduation Dinner for
the class of 2014-2015 at the E&O Hotel. There will be approximately 230 people in attendance to
celebrate. Thank you to Mr Mick Hollis for all of the hard work he has put into making this event
a huge success. I look forward to a wonderful evening next Friday.
During the following week, Monday 25th Friday 29th May, the Year 10 and 12 students will be
sitting end of year, internal examinations. All students have received, via their Uplands email
account, a copy of the exams timetable. There will be no timetabled classes during this week for
the Year 10s and 12s and they will only need to be on campus for their exams. Please note that if
they only have a morning exam they can study at home in the afternoon. Likewise, if they only
have an afternoon exam, they can study at home in the morning. However, if they have both a
morning and afternoon exam on the same day, they will not be able to leave the school campus
in between exams. The Year 12 students will be allowed to leave during their lunch break as per
usual. These exams are extremely important as the results will allow the students to identify
their strengths and weaknesses at the half-way point of their two year programmes.
The Year 10s will return to timetabled classes for a week where they will be going through their
exams with their teachers. The week after, Monday 8th - Friday 12th June, all Year 10 students will
be undertaking Work Experience. This is an excellent opportunity for them to have a taste of the
real world and be involved in a profession of their choice for the week. During the same week,
Monday Wednesday, the Year 9 students will undertake the challenging Champions of
Enterprise programme and will therefore not have timetabled classes during this time. Ms
McAskie will be sending more information home to parents about this in the coming weeks.
To assist in the successful running of this programme we are look for any parents in the Uplands
community with experience in design, engineering, business or marketing fields. Please contact
Ms McAskie or myself if you are available on Tuesday 9th and Wednesday 10th June to help advise
students throughout this programme.
Please note the following events and schedules which will take place during the final week of
this academic year. This is different to previous years and has been revised to ensure students
are in classes for the entire week except for the major, annual events which will take place.

Photographs of this weeks events in Primary include Year 4 excursion, a visit from teachers and
dignitaries from Kuala Muda/Yan District Education Office and the Victorian era in Reception
class.
Primary Disco: It is not too late to attend the Disco with a SPACE theme for Primary children in
Years 4 6 tonight. The disco will be held in the Sports Hall beginning at 5:00pm and concluding
at 7:00pm. The entry fee will be RM 5 and tickets can be purchased at the door this evening.
Children may wish to bring up to RM10 with them to purchase drinks and pizza.
Year 6 Exhibition: The students in Year 6 are on track and hard at work preparing for their
Exhibition which is just 9 days away. This is a very exciting time of year for the Year 6 students
and their teachers. The PYP Year 6 Exhibition is a celebration of a PYP students learning journey
throughout their time at Uplands. It allows them to demonstrate the knowledge and the skills
they have acquired as PYP students, and to pursue an inquiry into an area of study they are
interested and passionate about. Please see the attached invitation outlining details of this years
Exhibition. Come and help us celebrate our students skills and knowledge as they take one of
their final journeys in Primary!
Non-uniform Day: Students in Year 3 are organizing a non-uniform day for Primary students
next Tuesday, 19 May. We are encouraging all children in Primary to come to school in their own
choice of casual clothes appropriate for a normal school day. A donation of RM3 per student is
requested. The money donated will be used to host a visit to Uplands for 30 children from The
Hearing Impaired School on Friday, 29 May. We hope everyone will support this action initiated
by our Year 3 children.

VICTOREAN SCHOOLING
Reception Class in costume attending school in Victorian Era. We tried (very hard) not to smile
for the photo. The children enjoyed their Victorian classroom, however, they prefer their present
classroom because "I like all THESE toys", said Jesse.
