EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
I did my internship in Sheikh Brothers Lubricants (SBL). SBL is one of the leading
company involves in development and manufacturing of quality lubricants in
Pakistan. In its search for the best and in keeping with its policy, the company
manufactures its own range of lubricants by the brand name of SBL Lubricants.
The company is working hard to provide quality lubricating oils for all types of
automobiles and for the industrial sector of the country to provide greater
efficiency to the engines at minimum operational cost. The objective of SBL
Lubricants is to manufacture and sell low cost, high quality industrial and
automotive lubricants so that customers can easily afford to buy them at prices
lower than that of multinational companies. The goals and objectives of SBL are
to engage efficiently, responsibly and profitably in the oil business. SBL seeks a
high standard of performance and aims to maintain a long-term position in its
respective competitive environments.
SBL wants to provide value-added products and services so as to assure
customer satisfaction, through reducing waste, implementing continuous
improvement

programs

in

the

area

of

manufacturing

operations

and

complimenting the manufacturing operations with strong strategic marketing


planning. . Through the successful implementation of these activities they aim to
compete with the ever-increasing competition and retain their valued customers
for

the

sake

of

survival

in

the

competitive

market.

I also did SWOT analysis of the company. In SWOT analysis I have analyzed that
how the weaknesses of SBL can be overcome by using different methods or
ways feasible to the company. I did the internship in the Marketing Department of
SBL. My supervisor which helped me out while doing my internship was Mr.
Zeeshan Ghazanfar (Manager). I have assigned multiple duties during my
internship like assemble personnel and benefits files, file paperwork into
confidential database, work with hiring managers, enter data into spreadsheets
or databases and participate in Marketing team and all staff meetings. In the
analysis part, I have analyzed some Marketing strategies which were applicable

in SBL. At the end of this report I gave the references of all the data and
information which I have included in this report.
Main body of report
Part -I

Introduction
University of Gujrat makes internship compulsory for all students of MBA
programmers. All the students have to do their internship of Six week in any
business organizations so that they familiarized with organizational environment
& after Six week internship all the students are directed to submit their internship
report. So I complete my internship in Sheikh Brother lubricants Ali Pur Chatha
branch from 16-8-2013 to 26-9-2013. The main Internship purpose is to serve
the purpose of acquiring the students with the practices of knowledge of the
discipline of Organization administration. In that period of time I do my best to
learn more things about the Organization sector.
.5.1.1 Background of study
Its compulsory for all student of MBA to conduct Six week internship in business
organization to use their knowledge in practical fields.
This internship report is about Sheikh brother lubricants .Sheikh brother
lubricants is developed in 1949 and since , it is a large company and provide a
large range of product and services to its customer.
5.1.2 Purpose
The main purpose of study is that the student collects all relevant information to
prepare their internship report. The purpose of internship is that the students
understand how the theoretical knowledge can be applied in the practical

situation. They gain confidence and become aware the process of the
organization.
5.1.3 Scope
As an internee in Sheikh brother lubricants the main focus on general
Organization procedure gains more confidence, information & experience about
the organization.
5.1.4 Objective
As an internee in Sheikh brother lubricants I want to achieve following objectives
during my internship period.
1. To be familiar with a Companys sector
2. To be familiarizing with the different departments in the organization and
different function which they perform.
3. To relate the bookish knowledge with practice
4. My objective is to acquire the skill of good work habit and sense of

6. I want to know how Companys supports the economy of the country

During my internship period in Sheikh brother lubricants I adopted the main


methodology for collection of data from my supervisor of each department
through personal observation. I also makes some conversation with my
supervisor for collection of data. The second methodology which I adopt for
collection of data is annual reports and internet and magazines.

COMPANY OVERVIEW
Brief description of the organization
Sheikh Brothers Lubricants is the manufacturer of all types of High Grade
Lubricating Oils & Greases, having more than 20 years establishment and are
registered with Chamber Of Commerce (Govt. of Pakistan). Their modern
blending plant situated at Ali Pur Chattha Gujranwala, equipped with full fledged
Laboratory equipments for carrying out all required tests. SBL wants to expand
its scope of business from local to global operations through strong human,
information and financial resources. To make SBL an organization having a broad
product mix, serving different segments of the automotive industry world-wide.
They are also in a position to blend any quantity of Lubricating Oils as they have
various sizes of blending kettles. Production capacity per month in normal
working condition 15000 barrels. The covered area of the plant is 15,000 Sq. ft.
and total area is 20,000 sq. meters. Besides the fully equipped plant, they are
supported by well trained and experienced team of experts in the field of
manufacturing Lubricants, who are extremely dedicated and professional. Being
a leader in re-refining of all types of used Lubricating Oils, with establishment of
their unit in 1982, having conventional Acid Clay process. Since the waste of this
process has no ideal & safe disposal, they have over a period of time developed
and changed over to High Temperature High Vacuum Distillation unit.
Not only the quality of the product matches absolutely with the virgin oil

specification, the recovery of oil is also highest possible as there is only carbon
particles remains as residue.
Lubricating oil does not wear out but the chemical additives do. The Lubricating
oil only gets contaminated with extraneous matters, hence, after re-refining. it
can be used over & over again for the same purpose. They have re-refined
Lubricating oils for local as well as for industrial use. They also render services of
testing the used Thermic Oil to monitor the condition of the oil and issue their
report.

In the pestle analysis we analysis organization politically, economically, socially &

Pakistan is one of the more vulnerable countries in the world. In this
political analysis we look how Government policies effect on banking
sector, specially on Sheikh brother lubricants because it is of Companys
Pakistan. these are in form of political interference & the effect of
privatization & deregulation.

Economy of Pakistan is facing financial crisis & declining with passage of

POSITION AND DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES


My Position Title
I have been working in Sheikh Brothers Lubricants as an internee for 6 weeks.
The reason for choosing this company for internship experience was that it is one
of the well established companies in our city. Although an internee is not a
permanent employee of the company but can get a lot of knowledge and skills in
this very short period and so did I. I took it as opportunity for me and my career
and tried to acquire as many skills as I could.
The management and other staff of my department have been very cooperative
and guided me throughout my internship period. They treated me like the
employee of the company and took my full time to work in the company for me to
get used to of working in an organization. It was for the first time in my life when I
felt that there are some practical and reasonable assignments in front of me and I

tried to accomplish each and every task with

full of my responsibilities and

capabilities.
Description of Departments
I decided to select the Marketing department of Sheikh Brothers Lubricants. In
this company this department is governed by manager, so Marketing manager
was the head of the marketing department. In this company marketing manager
Mr. Zeeshan Ghazanfar was managing the marketing department. During the job
I found him a person who is highly dedicated towards his work.
A team consisting of the assistants and the employees are working under the
marketing Manager. As a head of marketing department he is always ready to
address the problems arises with the employees and is very keen to formulate a
desirable solution to resolve such problems. He is a real professional and also a
team person who knows how to work in a group and how to motivate others to
achieve these goals. So he was a manager as well as a motivator of the
employees which enhances effectiveness of the workforce in the company.

WORKING EXPERIENCE (DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES)


During the internship in Sheikh Brothers Lubricants some duties and
responsibilities were assigned to me and I have to complete these tasks with my
full attention and responsibilities. Here I am giving some little bit detail of these
duties and responsibilities:
My primary duty was to assist my boss who was the Manager Mr.
Zeeshan Ghazanfar.

Assemble new hire orientation binders.
Assemble personnel and benefits files (and maintain these files, and keep
them up to date)
File paperwork into confidential personnel and l benefits files.

INTERNAL POTENCY
Sheikh Brothers Lubricants is producing fine quality lubricants since its inception.
Their main strength which makes them different from the other companies in the
same industry is their policy of not compromising on quality at any cost. Their
main focus is to provide excellent quality lubricants to their customers at
comparatively lower cost. They also tried to give some offers along with their
products to attract new bunch of customers other than their potential customers.
They also charges low prices as compared to other companies which gives them
comparative edge in this saturated sector. They are currently been a pioneer in
re-refining oil which gave them a first mover advantage in the market.
Sheikh Brothers Lubricants is a leading industrial and automotive lubricants
manufacturer and blender in Pakistan. They are producing large range of
lubricants at reasonable prices which gives them competitive edge in the market.
Their company is located in a larger area and they also have a better
manufacturing technology which results in enhances their level of production.
They are capable of producing an adequate amount of lubricants which satisfies
the needs of the whole region.
The another edge this company have is their strong supply chain throughout
Pakistan which makes their access to almost every part of Pakistan and they are

able to meet their sales requirements easily. They have a highly skilled pool of
workers for their production. These workers are well aware about the operational
activities involves in the production of lubricants and they know how to get
maximum output from the respective amount of resources which the company
have. This helps them a lot in managing to meet the requirements of orders
which the company received.
The company has indigenous, highly developed research facilities capable of
developing any type of lubricant as per customer specific requirements. These
research facilities have been import by the company from Europe.
It also helps them to assess the effectiveness of the products which they are
offering to their potential customers. Another great advantage for this company
can be that demand for petroleum products increases with economic growth.
Expectation of healthy economic growth could bolster consumption of petroleum
products, and hence sales of oil companies. If these factors are carefully handled
by the company then they can be able to achieve greater profits due to
increasing demand of petroleum products. In the recent times it has been
observed that Pakistan has the potential of becoming a petroleum products hub,
with many countries looking to source refined products from relatively low-cost
countries. If this will be the case them there is a greater chance of expansion and
increased profitability for petroleum industry as well as Sheikh Brothers
Lubricants. Sheikh brother lubricants has been act as leader for socioeconomic
development in the country.
Sheikh brother lubricants has over the years started the projects which contribute
towards the economic objectives and social needs of the country. The Sheikh
brother lubricants has made a great effort for the development of small & medium
sized entrepreneurs and to self-employment schemes.

INTERNAL DEFICIENCIES
Sheikh Brothers Lubricants have some weaknesses which they should identify
and also should try to formulate strategies to eliminate these weaknesses. One
of the main weakness which can become the main reason of the downfall of the
company is their high dependence on imported crude oil accounting for over
80% of the consumption could pose an energy threat to the country anytime in
the future. In this sense, such high dependence could amount to a strategic
disadvantage. They should formulate an effective strategy to overcome such
dangerous issue.
Another problem which is somehow or another related to the above issue is lack
of crude storage makes the country and in some circumstances the oil
companies vulnerable to oil shocks. If the situation reaches to that instinct then
the come back of the company can become very difficult. Low investment
specially in the research and development department can also proves to be a
great problem for the company in the long run. Research and Development
department of any company plays a crucial role in the level of production and
performance of employees. It should be addressed through proper planning and
implementation.
The production method of SBL is not scientific. Their operations related to
production are not according to the predefined procedures. Most of the
employees just doing the certain tasks on the basis of their personal knowledge
and experiences. They should adopt the procedure based on set patterns of
production
in order to improves their sales. Another issue that should be addressed by SBL
is that they are using a relatively backward technology in the manufacturing of
lubricants. It has been observed that technological backward leading to poor
quality lubricant oil. It should be strictly considered by the top management of the
company.

Lack of latest technology also leads to low productivity which causes the supply
issues in some of the main cities but largely in the rural areas of Pakistan. The
other main weakness of SBL is low brand awareness due to absence of
advertisement in newspapers, television, hoardings, wall paintings etc. They
should focus more on the advertising of their products to make people aware
about their fine quality products.

EXTERNAL TRENDS
Sheikh Brothers Lubricants have some opportunities or trends which they should
capitalize on to increase their sales in the market.
One of the fine opportunities for SBL can be if they adopt the forward and
backward integration in their petroleum products. This can helps then in
producing variety of products with the limited resources and the ideal condition.
Another point of consideration for SBL can be that natural gas has the potential
to be the fuel of the future with demand outpacing supply. If they tends to operate
their units on gas than their will be greater chances of expansion of the company
within this highly saturated industry.
SBL has not fully explore the rural markets. They should fully explore the rural
markets for their increase in sales because most of the population of Pakistan
lives in rural areas and it can be a great source for their improves sales. Another
point that should be noticed by SBL can be growth in domestic market of
lubricant industry due to the increase in income level of middle class people. If
SBL succeeded in producing the products according to their requirements than
their can be rapid expansion of sales of the company.
The increase in number of vehicles due to development of infrastructure by
government can also be considered a big opportunity for SBL in the lubricants.
The number of vehicles now a day is increasing day by day and it will definitely
increase the usage of lubricants. This trend will positively affect the sales of SBL.

Global market of automobile industry is also directed to expansion in the
upcoming time. This will increase the demands of the petroleum products and the
sales of SBL can be improved due to such changes. Another key factor can be
about the heavy investment in automobile industry at the global scale. This will
lead to the development of the automobile sector all over the world.
EXTERNAL THREATS
The main threats that SBL can be facing in upcoming time can be based on
multiple factors. One of them can be deregulation of prices of automobile industry
which will boost competition for existing refining and marketing majors, with a
possibility of shrinkage in their market shares and consequently margins. This
can become a big problem for SBL in the long-run. Continuation of government
interference in the price setting of the different products of automobile industry
can becomes a big obstacle in the developed of a company like SBL.
The main threat which can harm the market reputation of SBL can be about the
inclusion of bigger players in the market which came in this industry with much
bigger and promising setups as compared to SBL. These entrants are presently
rising in the domestic market and this rising trends of the diversified players can
affect the long-term growth of the company.
Another threat for the company like SBL is the continuously increase in taxes and
duties by the government on the petroleum products. If this increase continues
for another sometime then the profitability of SBL will surely suffer in future and
there can be a decline I the sales of the company. A most sensitive issue in the
production of lubricants can be rising prices of crude oil in international and
domestic market which can leads to price wars and decreased dealer margins. If
this situation is being created by the government than their can be much problem
for SBL in case of survival in the long-run. These factors should be controlled by
SBL by implementing the pro-active approach in their management as well as
production.

Skills and qualifications
I have spent six weeks in Sheikh brother lubricants. During my internship period I
have gained some skills and qualifications which have stated as under:
a) Work with team:
During my internship I work with all staff of Sheikh brother lubricants
(Ghakkhar Mandi) and here I learn who to work with all staff, its very
helpful for me in showing good professional behavior with all employees.
How to treat with subordinate and high authority I learned from the bank
environment. As development of all business depends upon the friendly
relationship between staff member of organization.

Single person not

b) Computer skills
In the modern era knowledge about computer has much important
because every work is done on computer So my internship in Sheikh brother
lubricants also help me in improve my technical computer skills because where i
done my work almost all my supervisor used computer and I enter data in
computer.

c) Communication skills
Sheikh brother lubricants during my internship period improves my
communication skills. Because during my internship period I worked with
national bank staff and my skill to deal with customer improve as deal with
them;
Always greet with customer pleasantly. Be patient when deal them and try
to provide them provide all information.
d) Discipline

During my internship in Sheikh brother lubricants one skill develops in me
is discipline. Every work is done in bank under proper rule and regulation.
As there no one allow to smoking.
e) Practical experience:
I have got practical experience of working in an organization with the help
of the opportunity of doing internship in Sheikh brother lubricants.
During my internship period, branch manager provide me opportunity to sit
in departments like general banking, utility bills departments and advance
department. I have been assigned different task in different department
and under my supervisor I have learn what nature of task performed in
each department. My supervisor tried to best to give me knowledge
related to these departments.
They not irritated from any question which I asked from them, they fully
cooperated me to understand the function they perform in department. I
observe many functions which supervisor perform in departments I have
got a lot of knowledge.
In general banking I spent two weeks and some days and there I learnt
about the different type of account and requirement for opening and
maintaining these accounts. I observe my supervisor (Mr. Shamin) who
they fill deposit slip and forms related to account. I also fill these deposit
slips and I did the verification of cheque which come withdrawal. Under
same supervisor I also learned about the locker facility.
After this I sit in clearance department which is handled by same
supervisor he gave me in detail information about clearance instrument
and forms which used in this department. I observe them in filling the F15
and F16 form. He told me about charges and sign of officer on forms.

In remittance department under supervision of (Miss Naheed) I learn


about the basic operation and instrument used in remittance department.

She tell me about different way of transfer money by save hand and she
tell me about the charges of DD/PO/MT/TT. After observing her I request
to her give me to fill DD under his observation and i also calculate the
charges of DD on basis of amount. In utility department I learn who to fill
scroll book of bills.
Responsibilities
Every employee of an organization has to undertake some responsibilities on the
behalf of the organization. Its duty of an employee to fulfill these responsibilities.
Being an internee of Sheikh brother lubricants there were some responsibilities
on me:
Abide by the rules and regulations.
Under my supervisor I learn how to prepare the scroll book of bills and I take the
responsibility to collect the telephone and wapada bills and prepare the scroll
book.
I also take responsibility from my supervisor to use token on cheques.
I prepare deposit slip.
I provide information to customer about account opening.
I help in advance department for calculation of markup.
5.4.7.3 Influence on future career plans
The internship experience will help me a lot in my future career. The practical
experience which I have gained from Sheikh brother lubricants will help me as
reference for future job. This experience will not only help me to get the job after
completing my studies but also to help in better performing the job due to the
practically experience in different activities which I done in different departments
during my internship period in Sheikh brother lubricants. Also this experience
helps me in easily adjust in different organization.
The experience letter which I have gained from internship used as experience
references when i apply for job in future.

I have learned from my internship that you sit in bank for nine to ten hours to
work in banking sector and work with efficiently. These entire things are helpful in
my future career building.
5.4.7.4 Relation of internship activities with class room knowledge
During my internship in sheikh brother lubricants I come to know that my class
room knowledge is to some extent related my internship activity I observed that
a lot of terms which I studied in class room were happening in quite same
manner in the banking sector.
The activity which I performed to entering data in computer in MS.EXCEL,
Spread Sheet and MS word is related to my class knowledge where I learned
who to operate computer and learnt different function of computer which was
helpful for me in entering data. To deal with customer and provide information to
customer were almost relevant to the class room knowledge of the subject of
marketing. Where tricks are used to satisfy customer at profit
In accounts department the work which I entered in computer from manual is
almost same terms and entries used in account register.

MAIN PROBLEMS
Some of the problems of Sheikh Brothers Lubricants are as follows:
Government instability is also a major problem when it comes to industrial sector
of Pakistan. Lack of skilled labor is also a big problem in the expansion of the
company. Lack of employee motivation is also a major problem specifically in
SBL. This can become a crucial obstacle towards development of this company.
Due to rapid increase in the number of competitors of the same sector SBL is
facing a big problem in maximizing its effectiveness.

Their competitors are investing more in advertising as compared to SBL which is


becoming a main reason of their decline. New companies are emerging day by
day which is increasing the competition. Currency fluctuation at international
scale is a big barrier . In the companies like SBL there can be a problem about
the adequate wages of employees in the Production sector. Currency fluctuations
can reduces the value of money which they will be earning and it will surely
results in turnover from the international companies.
The other main problem that I have witnessed in SBL is that employees lack
appreciation. The management is not giving enough compensations and benefits
to the employees which are causing a lot of disprency among the employees. As
a result they are not been working with their full potential and the performance of
the company decreases rapidly.
The labors are not satisfied with the amount of wages paid to them because it is
very low and they are not satisfied with the wages. These factors effects a lot on
the performance of SBL and these problems should be effectively addressed and
resolved. Otherwise SBL would face a lot of problems when it comes to the long
term strategies of the company. These issues are not very complex and can be
resolved through proper planning and implementation. This will helps the
company to achieve their targets in the limited span of time and hence increases
the effectiveness of that company in the most complex sector of the economy.

RECOMMENDATION
Some of the solutions of the problem which are stated above are as follows:
There should be proper shades and proper sitting arrangements at the filling
stations because people who come for oil changing and car washing face
difficulties in this regard.

Lubricants should be disposed in a proper way to

protect the environment form being polluted. SBL should provide small incentive
to its customers.
Schemes like Buy 5 packs of any lubricants and get one pack free, should be
kept introducing time to time by SBL. SBL should make company operation site
in every city for capture the new market.
There is only one thing that is constant that is change; SBL should investment on
research development to cope with dynamic environment.

share is modernization of competitors. SBL should develop effective marketing
programs that will help the company increase sales that will lead to increase
market value. In these market programs emphasis should be given to
advertising, which is most effective and efficient tool of promotion for such type of
business.It will help improve the functioning of the organization and will lead to
greater participation and the workers and subordinates will be encouraged.

I have realized that SBL is performing very well since its inception. It is quite
difficult to give suggestion to improve the working conditions of SBL. In hiring
process bank should keep in mind only hire people on the basis of merit,
experience and qualification must consider.Proper help desk maintain in
company which also provide information to customer for all problems and they
give prompt reply for any confusion which customer feel.
No favoritism and nepotism in banking hours. Any employees weather in hire
and low post involved in favoritism and nepotism should be removed on spot. To
provide all internee proper information in details its not matter rather they

practically perform in bank or not which helpful them in preparing report and in
viva.
The manager should strictly monitor the performance of all employees. All of
them should be awarded according to their performance, ability and result in the
shape of bonuses and luxury to motivate them and work more effectively. As we
know that nothing is perfect, there is always a room for improvement, so I have
found during my internship can be made up taking into account the following
suggestions. SBL must motivate its employees and gave different benefits to the
employees which are highly dedicated towards the company. This appreciation
and motivation of SBL will results in the better performance of the employees and
will ultimately leads towards growth in sales of products of SBL.

LEARNING OUTCOMES
The main purpose of internship is to get a practical experience in the market and
to get some practical knowledge. Usually the period of internship is short but we
can learn a lot from this period. This was first time in my life when I was doing
some reasonable and practical tasks. A lot of learning and achievements I have
gotten from the Marketing staff like:

What was accomplished through the affiliation?

I learnt from this short period of job is punctuality. I learnt from this how to be in
time on your job. I also learnt the art of dressing, because in practical
environment professional dressing matters a lot. By seeing my seniors and
colleagues I start to copy them in dressing. It was a big achievement for me, that
I learn how to do the work in team and group of people.

Working in the team should be learnt. Communication with the customers and
get their minds is very difficult task, but in the company I visit the market four
times and learnt how to communicate with the customers and how to get the new
customers attracted towards the services of the company. I also learnt how to sit
in professional people, how to look, how to talk and how to work is also learning
for me.
I learnt from the organization that how to accomplish the tasks and the
assignments which were assigned to me. It was first time in my life to work whole
day in the company with full responsibility, to go in time and to off in time.

The facets of your responsibilities that you liked/disliked and why?

There are many things or situations which I have been come across during my
internship. Some of them were really fascinating and worth willing to do while the
others were just boring or a dead elements of job for me. For example during my
internship I like the aggressive and dedicated approach of my manager towards
work.
He was very much serious in meeting the deadlines of the projects assigned to
him and was very professional in achieving those tasks. I have learnt some
positive attitude towards work from my manager which I would be trying to carry
out in my future. I also liked the attitude of management of Sheikh brother
lubricants with their subordinates. They were very supportive to the problems and
queries of staff and always tried to entertain them. But the thing I disliked the
most is the expectation of upper management from the lower management staff.
Their expectations from the lower management staff were too high and as a
result they were always dissatisfied from their subordinates which were the main
cause of de motivation among most of the employees.

practical

internship?
For doing any type of job a number of skills and abilities are necessary which are
mostly taught in our courses and the instructor tries to develop them during
classes. Like in the finance field a man should have the ability to making and
analyze any type of the account, can operate Microsoft office, long term writing
capacity and proper dressing etc.
In Marketing field a man should be able to present the pros and corns of their
products to the customers, should be a good negotiator, should be a attractive
communicator and should know the marketing strategies, ability to enforce and
agree the customer to purchase our product by presenting the characteristics of
the products. Same like these I did the job in the Human Resource department
and following are some of the skills which were needed and acquired just due to
my job:
The first and necessary skill for the marketing Manager job is the communication
power. The communication power should be very strong. A marketing officer
should have the strong presentation power, so that he can present any topic
against his executives. The ability to perform Microsoft power point so that one
can make the slides of ones presentation. Marketing

an orderly approach.

Organized files, strong time management skills and personal efficiency are key to
the marketing function.

Moreover I think this internship will help me a lot in my career advancement


because due to it, I came to know about my strengths and weaknesses. I
practically analyzed things with various aspects and also came to know that there
is too much difference between practical knowledge and bookish knowledge. In

future, I will be well aware of office environment and will know how to deal with
different things. During my internship I also came to know that you have to be
responsible if you want to exist in this much competitive environment. For
example there is much flexibility when it comes to time in our academic era. But if
you dont follow the deadlines rather its intentionally or unintentionally then you
have to pay a huge price for it. There are no ifs and buts in the professional
world.
