Procedure:
Sailor/Skanti UAIS transponders in the field are found in two versions differing
in the housing used, a cast aluminium housing and the later version utilizing a
steel housing. The procedure for exchanging the Electronics Module differs only
slightly between the two. The differences will be detailed where applicable.
Open the cover of the transponder
1.

Disconnect the UAIS Transponder from the external power source.

2.

Removing the Electronics Module
1.: Disconnect the three coaxial cables from the Electronics Module, using
the 8mm wrench.
2.: Disconnect the four cable connector plugs on top of the Electronics
Module. Each plug is labelled, indicating the connected type of cable.
A corresponding label is found on top of the mating connector fixed to
the Electronics Module Interface board. If these labels for some
reason are missing, make sure to mark the connectors prior to
disconnecting the plugs in order to ensure correct connections when
reassembling.

NOTE:
In case of the transponder being the version of the steel housing, power for
external fan must be disconnected also!
Remove screws/hex nuts securing the Electronics Module mounting plate to the
transponder housing, using screwdriver/10mm socket wrench.

Installing the Electronics Module

1.:

Thrane & Thrane

Install the replacement Electronics Module by first connecting the

coaxial cables attached to the transponder housing prior to
inserting the Electronics Module completely in the transponder
housing. In this process excersize care not to impose strain to the
coaxial cables and connectors. Do not tighten connectors at this
point. This will be done done later in the replacement process.

At this point make sure that the coaxial cables are connected to the
appropriate connectors in the Electronics Module, i.e. the external transponder
cable connectors marked LAN, GPS and VHF should be connected to the
correspondingly marked connectors of the Electronics Module. This is important
for the proper function of the transponder.

Lifting of the Cover of the Transponder Housing
This chapter is applicable to transponders of cast aluminium housing only.
Transponders of this version when installed in a confined installation space may
be subjected to prolonged excessive heating in case of a fan failure. To
minimize the risk of such prolonged excessive heating the cover of the
transponder housing should be lifted using the stand offs and protection grid
supplied with the Electronics Module replacement kit p/n 55.216.
Install the four stand offs into the threaded holes of the transponder housing
and tighten, using 10mm wrench.
