Volvo opens Russia factory

Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) has underlined its
commitment to the Russian construction equipment market with
the inauguration of a new 20,660 sq m excavator factory in Kaluga,
Russia. The SEK350 million facility has been developed using
technologies aimed at reducing carbon dioxide emissions and is
the companys first in Russia, its seventh producing excavators and
becomes Volvo CEs 16th manufacturing facility worldwide.
Russia is one of the key regions for Volvo CE when it comes
to long-term business development. With the opening of the new
facility, the company hopes to take advantage of the burgeoning
market for high quality construction machinery - in 2012, total
imports into the Russian construction equipment market grew
by 21 percent compared to the previous year.
The Russian construction equipment market presents
an attractive and growing opportunity for Volvo CE to provide
customers with high quality products, said Pat Olney, Volvo
CEs president. With this new facility we will be able to provide
machines tailored to the needs of the marketplace and deliver them
to the customer specifications in a much shorter lead time.
The new plant will create up to 300 new jobs in the area,
and produce Volvos heavy-duty, high-performance excavators
spanning the 20 to 50 t weight classes. The first models to roll
off the new production lines will be the EC220, EC240, EC290,
EC380 and EC480 D-series excavators. The excavator models
that most closely meet the needs of the Russian construction
equipment market will be produced here in Kaluga, said Andrey
Komov, general manager of Volvo CE in Russia. Producing
excavators close to where our customers are located will enable
us to supply them faster and accommodate their specific needs
more readily.
In a further effort to expand Volvo CEs distribution footprint
in the Russian market, the companys authorised Russian dealer,
Ferronordic Machines, also plans to expand its branch network
by opening a major new facility in the Moscow region. n

Liebherr establishes sales and service subsidiary in Mexico

Liebherr has founded a new sales and service subsidiary in Mexico,
Liebherr Mexico S. de R.L. de C.V. This new company will initially be
responsible for the direct sale and service of Liebherr mobile cranes
in Mexico and other countries in Central America. The products
were previously supported in Mexico by the Nortrack de Mxico; the
cooperation with this company ended on 31 December 2012.
The establishment of Liebherr Mexico S. de R.L. de C.V underlines
the growing importance of this market for Liebherr. Mexicos large-scale
investments in the energy sector and infrastructure in recent years
have resulted in increased demand, especially for mobile and crawler
cranes. As a result, local crane rental companies are expanding and
Liebherr customers from Europe are also setting up subsidiaries in
Mexico and importing machinery into the country.

The new company creates the basis for providing better support
for Liebherr customers in Mexico and Central America and for
making customer services, including spare parts supplies, more
efficient in the region.
In the future, Liebherr Mexico S. de R.L. de C.V will also serve
as a platform for other Liebherr construction machinery divisions.
The company said duty cycle crawler cranes and deep foundation
machines will follow in the next phase of expansion. Liebher also
has two other subsidiaries in Mexico - Liebherr Monterrey, S. de
R.L. de C.V based in Monterrey is responsible for the production
of drive technology components; and Liebherr Servicios Monterrey,
S. de R.L. de C.V is the local service subsidiary in the field of

Oshkoshs access equipment segment remains strong

Oshkosh Corporations access equipment segment sales increased by
7.5 percent to US $817.4 million for the second quarter of fiscal 2013
compared to the prior year second quarter. The increase was mainly
the result of higher replacement demand for telehandlers in North
America, the realisation of previously announced price increases and
higher after-market parts and service sales, offset in part by lower unit
sales volume in Australia, due to a pause in purchases by a major
customer and a slowdown in mining and energy activity.
Oshkoshs access equipment segment is led by JLG, which has
a diverse product portfolio including leading brands such as JLG
aerial work platforms; JLG, SkyTrak and Lull telehandlers; and
various complementary accessories that increase the versatility and
efficiency of these products.
In the second quarter of fiscal 2013, the access equipment
segment operating income increased by 38.9 percent to US$95
million (11.6 percent of sales), compared to prior year second
quarter operating income of US$68.4 million (9 percent of sales).
The increase was primarily the result of the realisation of previously
announced price increases, higher telehandler unit sales volume and
benefits from MOVE initiatives, offset in part by lower unit sales

34

volume in Australia. The MOVE initiatives represent Oshkoshs

key strategies to help support its mission; these strategies include
market recovery and growth, optimise cost and capital structure,
value innovation, and emerging market expansion.
Oshkosh has also reported fiscal 2013 second quarter net
income of US$85.4 million, compared to US$42.8 million in
the second quarter of fiscal 2012. Consolidated net sales were
US$1.98 billion, a decline of 3.8 percent compared to the prior
year second quarter. Consolidated operating income was US$134.6
million (6.8 percent of sales), compared to US$84.1 million (4.1
percent of sales) in the prior year second quarter. Operating income
margins improved as a result of improved pricing, higher margins
associated with international sales of MRAP all terrain vehicles
and operational efficiencies.
Our access equipment segment continued to benefit from
replacement driven demand and improved pricing, while concrete
placement product sales in the commercial segment reached the
highest level of quarterly sales in nearly five years, benefiting
mainly from improvements in the domestic housing market, said
Charles L. Szews, CEO of Oshkosh Corporation. n

IPAF has for the first time ever made an estimate of the size of the
worldwide rental fleet for MEWPs. This has been set at approximately
950,000 units. At the same time, it has reported in the IPAF US
Powered Access Rental Market Report 2013 that the US MEWP
rental market experienced robust growth in 2012 (+6 percent) to
reach approximately US$6.6 billion. While rental companies kept
fleet sizes steady in 2011, 2012 saw a return to fleet expansion
(+6 percent). Fleet size and investments are expected to increase
in 2013.
The Brazilian MEWP rental fleet is meanwhile estimated to have
reached 19,000 to 19,500 units at the end of 2012, a phenomenal

LeeBoy makes its debut in Indonesia

ST Kinetics and its Indonesian distributor
PT Airindo Sakti recently held a two-day
roadshow in Samarinda, Kalimantan,
Indonesia. Highlights included the companys
TRXBUILD D20 off-road dump truck
and LeeBoy 785i motor grader. The event
was LeeBoys maiden appearance in
Indonesia, but it was the second roadshow
for TRXBUILD - the first one took place in
2012 at the Sudamanik granite quarry, a few
hours drive south of Jakarta.
The TRXBUILD and LeeBoy range of
products include off-road dump trucks,
excavators, motor graders, pavers, milling
machines and batching plants. They are
ideal for road construction projects and other
infrastructure developments, as well as for
the mining sector.
The 785i motor grader has been designed
for high versatility and all-round performance,
incorporating productivity-enabling features.
The machine has a sliding mouldboard with a
total side reach of 58 degrees and a 32-degree
forward tilt. The heavy-duty 54-in diameter,
gear-driven turntable has a 23-in side shift
with a complete 360-degree rotation. The
mouldboard can also be easily manoeuvred for
bank-angle outs of at least 90 degrees.
Another feature of the 785i motor grader
is the 46-in front-mounted scarifier, which
provides ripping power with a choice of up
to 11 ripping teeth. The tandem power drive
system provides smooth operation with its
ZF heavy-duty transmission. This gearbox
system offers a choice of six forward and three
reverse speeds. Powering the 785i motor
grader is a turbo-charged Cummins engine.
Suitable for use in tight, confined areas,
the compact D20 off-road dump truck
attracted many enquiries on its technical
specifications, payload, performance, dealer
support and other product benefits.
A fairly common situation in many of
Indonesias mines is that on-road dump trucks
are used for off-road applications, resulting
in frequent breakdowns, costly damages and
pre-mature wear and tear to the vehicles. The
D20 is a purpose-built, heavy-duty machine
specifically designed and engineered for offroad uses in arduous conditions that would
easily cripple a normal on-road truck.
Designed with a sturdy steel dumper
for higher wear and impact resistance, the
D20 features a wedge-shaped dump body
that enables quick and efficient discharge of
aggregates. It has a maximum payload of 20 t.
Powered by a turbo-charged 14-l Cummins
engine, the machine offers cost-efficiency
and versatility across various operating
conditions and terrains. n

POWERFUL AND PROFITABLE

Intermat Middle East 2012 attracted major industry players.

We originally intended to hold the exhibition from 20 to

22 January 2013, but have slightly altered the dates to get more
international brands involved, and avoid the tight security checks of
the World Future Energy Summit which will be held at ADNEC during
that same period. By taking proactive measures, being flexible and
adjusting accordingly, we have organised our event with the exhibitors
and visitors in mind and can expect the next edition of Intermat
Middle East to be even more successful than its predecessors, said
Maryvonne Lano, Intermat exhibition director. n

OS+H Asia prepares for next edition

The ninth edition of OS+H Asia, the Occupational Safety + Health
Exhibition for Asia, will be held from 7 to 9 May 2014 at the Suntec
Singapore International Exhibition and Convention Centre in
Singapore. The show has firmly established itself as the regions most
important exhibition and key business platform for all involved in
occupational safety and health, providing a broad and comprehensive
selection of new products, technologies, services and solutions
applicable across diverse industries and sectors.
OS+H Asia has recorded consistently healthy numbers of
participation from both exhibitors and visitors since its inception
in 1988. The last edition in 2012 attracted 163 exhibitors from 22
countries and 5,918 quality trade professionals. This approximates a
20 percent increase for both exhibitors and visitors from the seventh
edition in 2010, reflecting the highest ever turnout in the exhibitions
history. The show is organised by Messe Dsseldorf Asia.
Moving beyond numbers, the steady expansion of OS+H Asia
through the years is significant of the growing demand in Singapore
and the region for new and enhanced products for occupational
safety and health. This reinforces the necessity of this exhibition
as Singapore evolves as an industry leader in implementing and
advocating workplace safety and health practices, said Shirley Lim,
general manager of Messe Dsseldorf Asia.
Concurrent to OS+H Asia 2014 are important and strategic
events by expert authorities for the industry. The Singapore WSH
Conference 2014 (organised by Singapores WSH Council, Ministry
of Manpower and WSH Institute), will feature for the third time

AEM to launch ConExpo Latin America in 2015

The Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM), owner of
ConExpo, has signed a letter of intent with the Chilean Chamber
of Construction to co-locate ConExpo Latin America with the
Chambers Edifica exposition to be held from 21 to 24 October
2015 in Santiago, Chile. AEM has worked with the Chamber
for more than a decade to foster mutual cooperation on issues
including safety, standards development, market information
and trade promotion.
Latin America is a key world region for off-road equipment
manufacturers doing business globally. ConExpo Latin America
extends AEMs ConExpo brand of manufacturer-run, topquality expositions to the area. The association initiated the
show in response to member feedback for improved marketing
opportunities for global equipment manufacturers within Latin
America. The show will feature the latest construction and
construction materials equipment, technologies and services for
the Latin America marketplace.
ConExpo Latin America will be directed by the industry
and for the good of the industry, following the model of the
flagship ConExpo-Con/Agg international exposition set in North
America, and all AEM-run shows. The association is a longtime
proponent of global cooperation to bring together manufacturers,
customers and industry organisations in top-quality events with
real value. A managing committee of exhibitors and other industry
stakeholders will guide strategic direction of the show to deliver
maximum return on investment that meets the industry needs of
all participants.

ConExpo Latin America will be modelled on the flagship

ConExpo-Con/Agg international exposition in North America.
Here is a view of the last ConExpo-Con/Agg in 2011.

The plan is to rotate location of ConExpo Latin America

between the northern and southern areas of South America, to
offer opportunity to buyers from all regions. The show launches
as an annual event, with future timing and rotation with other
events to be determined. AEM is working with allied associations
and has valuable support from MMI, organiser of bauma. AEM
and MMI partner on bC India and AEM supports MMI shows in
other key regions. n

Access award winners celebrated in the US

More than 350 industry professionals from around the world attended
the International Awards for Powered Access (IAPA) held on 26
March 2013 in Miami, Florida, USA. The event, which celebrates
best practice and excellence in the powered access industry, was
held in the US for the first time.
The Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Harry
McArdle, founder of Height for Hire and Easi Uplifts, by newly
elected IPAF president Steve Couling, managing director of TIMEVersalift. Paying tribute to Mr McArdle, Mr Couling said, Harry
was one of the first entrepreneurs to take access seriously as a rental
business. He is also quick to see new opportunities in products and
markets, seeing, for example, the potential of large truck mounted
platforms as well as other specialist forms of access.
Another 13 awards were presented that evening, including one
for the Access Photograph of the Year. An impressive 86 entries
were received for the awards, which provided the judges with an
ample selection of projects, equipment and innovative services from
around the world.
The organisers thank all those who entered for the awards and
the five judges for their time and effort. The judges were Enrica
Pege, director of Venpa; Stefan Kulawik, managing director of
Palfinger Platforms; Ebbe Christensen, president of Reachmaster;
Ken Pustizzi, CEO of Trico Lift; and outgoing IPAF president Wayne
Lawson of JLG.

Winners of the International Awards for Powered Access 2013.

The event was held in the US for the first time.

The next International Awards for Powered Access will be held

together with the IPAF Summit on 3 April 2014 in Windsor, near
London in the UK. n

Website: www.iapa-summit.info

The full list of the 2013 winners and the citations from the judges:
IPAF Training Instructor of the Year: Rafael Bazzarella, Skyjack
The judges were impressed with Mr Bazzarellas continued efforts to expand
IPAF training in Latin America by encouraging companies to start up training
centres and promoting safety to government.
Best New IPAF Training Centre of the Year:
Sheet Metal Workers 33, Cleveland District Joint Apprenticeship and
Training Committee (JATC), based in the US
In November 2012, within two months of starting out as an approved training
centre, the Sheet Metal Workers 33 held its first operator training courses and
successfully trained 37 operators. It now has a full year of training schedule
for 2013.
Best Marketing Campaign for Safety and IPAF Training:
Mastclimbers LLC
Mastclimbers LLC took the award for its efforts in educating the US market
about the industrys responsibilities when it comes to safety and training.
Access Photograph of the Year
Paul Tynan, an employee of Summit Tower Hire, based in Australia, won this
award for his picture of a Bronto Skylift S70-XDT at the MacArthur Wind Farm
in the state of Victoria.
Product of the Year: Mast Climbing Work Platforms and Hoists
Scanclimber, Finland, for its SC8000 Eiffel Transport Platform
The judges said, This was an outstanding entry. The custom-designed model
was impressive but so too were the safety features put in place to protect the
hundreds of thousands of tourists visiting the Eiffel Tower, where the transport
platform is working.
Product of the Year: Low-Level Access
ReechCraft, USA, for the Powerlift
The Powerlift is an innovative product, designed with safety and manoeuvrability
in mind, said the judges.
Product of the Year: Vehicle/Trailer Mounted
Ruthmann, Germany, for the Steiger T 540 truck mount
Among many great features, the judges were impressed by the T 540s long
upper boom and jib design, and felt the machine offered a great overall package
to customers.

44

jul/aug 2013

Product of the Year: Self-Propelled (Booms, Scissors, Atrium Lifts)

Cormidi, Italy, for the KB-X
The KB-X combines an access platform, under-bridge platform and compact
crane. The design of the knuckle boom system on the boom to allow underbridge access was particularly impressive.
Award for Outstanding After Sales Service:
Independent Parts & Service (IPS), UK
IPS was described as having exceptional parts management capabilities, thanks,
in part, to its recently introduced active stock profiling system.
Contribution to Safe Working at Height: AFI-Uplift, UK
The company made an important contribution to safety with its new Sanctuary
Zone anti-entrapment device.
IPAF Safety Champion: Kevin OShea, Mastclimbers LLC
Highly Commended: Peter Douglas, Nationwide Platforms, UK
This was a very strong category and a very close call. So, to break with tradition,
the judges decided a Highly Commended certificate should be created, in
addition to the winners award. The Highly Commended certificate went to
Peter Douglas from Nationwide Platforms, UK, while the winning trophy was
presented to Kevin O'Shea from Mastclimbers LLC. The latter presented his
Safety Awareness Seminar to OSHA employees in 20 US cities in 2012, among
many other achievements.
Access Project of the Year: Scanclimber, Finland
Scanclimber provided mast climbing equipment to help refurbish the first floor
of the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France.
Access Rental Company of the Year: Industrial Access, Romania
Industrial Access picked up this coveted award for taking a leading role in an
emerging market, often taking difficult decisions for the right reasons, as well
as lobbying its government for safety regulation.
IPAF/Access International Lifetime Achievement Award:
Harry McArdle founded Height for Hire in Ireland in 1978, buying the companys
first self propelled boom in 1980. Since then, the business, also operating
under the Easi Uplifts name, has added rental operations in the UK, as well
as Slovakia and Hungary. One of his most significant contributions over the
latter years has been his full support of IPAF.

for short loading cycles.
An internally-extending Deep Dig
dipper design reduces maintenance and
develops an increased 41.1 kN of tearout
when retracted (as does the non-extending
dipper) and 29 kN when fully extended.
At the digging end, bucket tearout reaches
60.3 kN and this can be boosted to 67.8 kN
using the new Power Dig pin position on the
optional heavy duty bucket.
The TLB890 is available with stateof-the-art pilot controls or conventional
mechanical levers in SAE, ISO or cross
pattern. Pilot control versions get a single
variable displacement piston pump (in place
of tandem gear pumps) and thumbwheels on
the joysticks to control the dipper extension
and any attachments. A second auxiliary line
is available with both configurations.
At the front end, a slim bucket cylinder
provides an excellent view of loader
operations while still delivering 55.4 kN of
breakout. Intelligently designed front axle
steering geometry reduces steering effort,
while the reach and rake adjustable steering
wheel helps to improve operator comfort.
The TLB890s rear axle gives it a 41
kph maximum travel speed and its wet
disc brakes are positioned outboard and
have a bigger diameter to improve braking
performance while at the same time reducing
pedal effort. The standard transmission is a
four-forward/four-reverse Synchro Shuttle
and a revised Servo Power Synchro (SPS)
transmission with manual control and
auto-shift capability is an option. This
transmission uses hydraulic selector fork
gear engagement (instead of clutch pack
operation), which reduces drag, resulting in
increased performance and fuel economy.
To increase operator comfort, the revised
ROPS/FOPS cab is 100 mm wider than
previous Terex backhoes and has a large upand-over opening rear window to improve
the view of the digging operation. There are
also opening rear quarter windows for extra
ventilation. Customers have the choice of
a mechanically or air suspension seat, and
there is a cool box to store food and drinks
and an additional 12 V auxiliary socket for
phones and MP3 players.
Among the TLB890s maintenance
and cost-reducing features are externally

replaceable wear pads on the extending

dipper and stabiliser legs, and cab entry
steps that can be detached from the fuel
tank for repair or replacement. A hard nose
counterweight also protects components at
the front of the machine. To speed the daily
checks and improve security, the isolator
switch is positioned within easy reach
beneath the fully tilting engine cover and the
catch to release the engine cover is inside the
cab. Also beneath the engine cover are new
jump start posts for connecting jump leads
to start other machines.
In addition, Terex introduced its new
TR60 rigid dump truck. This 55 t payload
machine features a number of key upgrades.
Following the introduction of a new
modulating rear brake retarder, the TR60
is believed to be the only rigid truck in the
market to offer three independent retarders
as standard. To slow their machine, operators
can now choose to use either an engine
exhaust brake, a transmission retarder or
a modulating rear brake. Each of them
works independently of each other, with
the transmission retarder taking priority
over the other two, if selected. The benefit
of having three retardation systems is that

operators are provided with the best option

for all possible applications, providing
safe, controlled and productive downhill
control. Moreover, proper utilisation of the
machine retarders can reduce stress on
the foundation braking systems, extending
service brake life and lowering the cost of
ownership.
Inside the revised cab, the TR60
has upgraded electrical systems and the
electrical interface is now similar to that in
the latest Terex articulated dump trucks.
A new integrated dash layout provides
operators with additional feedback and
greater control, enabling them to select
machine functions for excellent productivity
on any duty cycle.
Terex said the TR60 still has the lowest
gross vehicle weight in its class. This benefits
machine owners by reducing structural fatigue
and fuel consumption, extending tyre life
and lowering operating costs. Furthermore,
the improved visibility is due to the lowered
height of the air cleaners on the front platform
of the machine. This, in addition to the
repositioning of the engine coolant tank, has
also improved service access. n

Trimbles integrated solution for drilling and piling operations

Trimble has recently introduced its DPS900 drilling and piling
system, a new machine control solution that enables contractors to
perform drilling and piling operations quickly, safely and accurately.
The system can help promote jobsite safety by minimising the need
for stakes, construction surveying and personnel near the machine
during drilling operations.
The Trimble DPS900 gives contractors the ability to precisely
drill to the specified location, depth, orientation and inclination
angle. Better rock fragmentation and minimised hauling costs can be
achieved by optimising drill hole spacing, angles and the location of
the machine for a more even pattern of blasting. Reduced overdrilling
means machine bits and hammers last longer, which can result in
significant cost savings. In addition, machines can operate 24 hours
a day, seven days a week in almost any conditions so delays due to
darkness or bad weather are minimised.
According to Trimble, the DPS900 system is so easy to use that
an experienced drill operator can become proficient in typically
30 minutes. The system features streamlined drilling and piling
workflows and an intuitive user interface designed for construction
environments.
The Trimble DPS900 is part of the Trimble Connected Site
portfolio of solutions that provide a high-level of workflow and
process integration from the design phase through to the finished
project. The integration of Trimble Business Centre HCE in
the office and DPS900 in the field can increase efficiency and
productivity of drilling and piling operations. Beginning with
accurate job estimating and takeoff, drilling and piling contractors
can have more confidence in their estimates by using Business
Centre HCE office software. Once production begins, the
new Business Centre HCE Drilling and Piling module offers
contractors tools to rapidly create optimised drilling and piling
plans. The drill plan is then wirelessly synced to the DPS900
system in the field, eliminating the need to drive to the site. To
complete the project lifecycle, Business Centre HCE can be used
for comprehensive quality and production reporting.
The same high quality, rugged components used in other Trimble
machine control and site positioning systems are also used in the
DPS900 drilling and piling system. In addition, the system is
supported by Trimbles global SITECH technology dealers, ensuring
customers receive expert, local support.
The new Trimble DPS900 drilling and piling system and
Business Centre HCE v2.8 are expected to be available in the
third quarter of 2013 through Trimbles SITECH technology dealer
channel. n

The new DokaCC has been specifically

designed and optimised for cut-and-cover
tunnel construction. Different types of traffic
tunnel, such as rail or road tunnels, can be
built quickly, efficiently and safely using
this system.
The development of this innovative
tunnel system was made possible only by the
use of high-tech construction materials and
products such as the composite formwork
beam I tec 20. The choice of high-grade
beams such as these means that up to 25
percent less equipment is needed, greatly
reducing the weight of the formwork. These
attributes make for quick system set-up and
great ease of use on the site.
Flexibility, efficiency and safety are
the defining features of this new tunnel
system, making it an all-round solution
for every cut-and-cover tunnel project. A
V-strut shoring arrangement allows the
formwork to be deployed on any type of
foundation, meaning that shoring is possible
in any situation. Another benefit of this
variable tunnel formwork system is that it is
geometry-independent and can be adapted
to even the most challenging shapes and
routes of tunnel.
The tunnel formwork traveller has an
all-hydraulic wheel system that allows it
to be three-dimensionally aligned with
millimetre precision, without needing to
be set down between alignments. Even
gradients of as much as 10 percent can be
negotiated. A slide-type solution for the new
stop-end system saves time when stripping
out, and the integrated platform system and
ladderways on this new tunnel formwork
provide a high level of safety. In general,
this all-hydraulic formwork solution makes
for straightforward, safe and ergonomically
optimised working on the site.
Dokas tunnel competence centre has
more than 10 years experience of helping
customers carry out their projects. Its
emphasis is on individual support with
planning the formwork, operational reliability,
rapid deployment and cost effectiveness.
For the residential construction field,
Doka has developed Doka OneGo. As its
name suggests, this new formwork system
allows walls and slabs to be formed and
cast in one go. It is suitable for use not
only as monolithic formwork but also as
separate wall or floor-slab formwork. The
systems standardised workflow sequences
and optimised system components help
work move ahead swiftly and safely. Thanks
to its special integrated lowering function

Automatic block making machine from Quangong Machinery

The T15 automatic block making machine from Quangong Machinery
Co Ltd (QGM) has been designed to provide stable, fast and highperformance production. It can produce various concrete products,
such as hollow blocks, pavers and curb stones, ranging from 50 to
400 mm in height.
The vibration system of the machine adopts four Siemens
motors (4 x 7.5 kW) for vibration table and two MVSI motors (2 x
5.5 kW) for top vibration to provide high vibration force. Vibration
motors are S1 working mode, which means motors continue to run
even when vibration stops. Therefore, no high starting current
occurs. This will protect motors from damage and save energy. The
vibration table consists of a dynamic table and a static table, made
of high-duty Hardox steel. During vibration process, the dynamic
table vibrates while the static table keeps still. This structure
design guarantees the desired vibration amplitude, which is one of
most important factors for producing high-quality concrete blocks.
The gap between the dynamic table and static table (vibration
amplitude) is adjustable.
The finger car, which consists of crawler and transfer car, is a
transportation device for pallets of blocks between elevator/lowerator
and curing cells. It takes wet blocks from elevator and the transfer
car sends wet blocks into the curing cell. After curing, the transfer
car takes out dry blocks from curing cells and sends to lowerator.
The finger car can carry 24 pallets of blocks each time (12 layers by
two pallets per layer) and the load capacity is up to 16 t. The finger
car is driven by two frequency conversional motors, which provide
a high driving force and control the speed of finger car. Crawler and
transfer car communicate by wireless devices. Infrared device is used
to measure and control the movement of transfer car.
The stacker can be divided into four parts, by the structure and
function - horizontal moving device, vertical moving device, rotating
device and clamping device. The horizontal, vertical and rotating
devices adopt SEW frequency conversional motors. Clamping device

Recently, Salem Saleh Al-Hareth Est (SSH Est) has acquired
a T15 block making machine from QGM. SSH Est is a fully Saudi
owned contracting and trading company, working exclusively for
Saudi Aramco as a prime contractor on LSTK and turnkey general

The new LPS (Light Protection System)

Screen climbing protection panel from Peri
has been developed as a weight-optimised
alternative to the conventional, closed
enclosures. The rail-mounted protection
panel with rentable mesh panels as the
enclosure can be used flexibly and is easily
adapted to suit complex building forms,
thanks to the telescopic function.
The close-meshed panels serve as a
wind deflector as well as providing anti-fall
protection during assembly of the top slab
formwork. One particular advantage during
striking of the respective floors is that the
light-transmissive structure of the mesh
panels allows working operations to be carried
out in daylight. In addition, the panels are
very light, which simplifies installation and
the climbing procedure whilst also reducing
the load on the building itself. The meshed
enclosure is quickly and easily mounted
to the LPS climbing rails by means of
clamp connectors a crane is not required.
Continuous connections are possible, allowing
a free arrangement of the climbing rails.
The slab shoe-guided climbing rails
facilitate a fast and safe moving procedure. As
an option, mobile hydraulic climbing devices
also allow crane-independent moving.
The LPS Screen comes in two versions one of them is straight and continuous, while
the other one with a working platform that
provides access to the stopend formwork.
The mesh panels can also be used with
RCS climbing rails whereby they are simply
clamped to the climbing rail with the same
LPS clamp adapters. With this lightweight
and completely rentable solution, the Peri
RCS P climbing protection panel is even
more cost-effective.
For moving formwork and construction
materials in high-rise buildings, Peri offers
the RCS MP landing platform. Optionally, the
new system can be either anchored in the slab
or simply clamped in position between two
storey slabs by means of Multiprop props. The
RCS MP landing platform is supplemented
through the checker plate decking and LPS
mesh enclosure. The solution is completely
rentable and is delivered already preassembled. The platform has a cantilever
of 3.75 m and serves to move the Skydeck
and building materials whereby the 5.50 m
cantilevered platform is used for moving
large-sized slab tables. With the larger
version, post tensioning is integrated in the
side protection, which minimises the amount
of deflection on the platform. n

Tier 4i/Stage IIIB engine conversion kit will be available for Volvo machines
From the second quarter of 2014 Volvo CE customers will be able
to have their Tier 4i/Stage IIIB machines fitted with a special
engine conversion kit. This kit will enable Volvo owners to sell
their used machines on to countries where high-sulphur fuels
are still used. The conversion kit works by protecting the Volvo
engines against high sulphur levels, while still meeting Volvo
internal design standards.
We know that some of our customers export their used
machines to countries outside of the US or EU and must operate
on a different type of fuel. We want to assure customers that there

56

jul/aug 2013

will still be a market for Tier 4i/Stage IIIB-compliant machines

abroad, said Alan Berger, vice president product platforms.
Used without the conversion kit, Volvos Tier 4i/Stage IIIB
engines would not operate correctly due to the high-sulphur
fuel used in many non-regulated countries. The conversion kit,
however, facilitates the reliability of a machine after export.
There is increasing demand outside of the US and EU
for high quality machines. Now with the conversion kit, Volvo
machines can be sold in these markets, which was not previously
possible, added Mr Berger. n

Extra powerful crawler dozers from Dressta

Dresstas TD-25M Extra STD (Standard) and
TD-25M Extra LA (Landfill Application)
crawler dozers feature a Tier 3 Cummins
engine to meet lower emission requirements.
The engine has gross power per SAE J1995
of 375 hp, with net power per SAE J1349
of 370 hp.
Maximum torque has increased by 11
percent to 1,825 Nm from previous Tier 2
series. Maximum power is now attained
at 1,800 rpm, 300 rpm lower than before,
reducing overall noise levels. To absorb the
higher power and torque at lower engine
speeds, Dressta revised the torque converter,
hydraulic pump drives and final drives.
The TD-25M Extra series has a gear
range pre-selection system and an automatic
downshift function which offers the operator
the choice of various automatic operating
modes, especially useful in repetitive
cyclical operations. A continuously variable
speed, hydraulically driven fan, designed to
match the varying heat loads on the dozer is
included. On the landfill version, the fan is
also hydraulically reversible.
The TD-25M Extra STD has an operating
weight of 41,500 kg that includes standard
equipment, semi-U blade with tilt, singleshank ripper, coolant, lubricants and full fuel
tank. The various blade types and capacities
include semi-U of 9.6 cu m, full-U of 11.5
cu m, angle of 5.7 cu m and coal of 21 cu m.
The ripper selection includes single-shank
(standard or deep dig) and multi-shank (with
three-shanks) attachments. Winch can also
be attached to the back of the dozer.
As for the LA version, it has an operating
weight of 42,010 kg without any ripper
attachment, and the following types of blades
with trash racks: semi-U of 20.6 cu m and
full-U of 25.5 cu m.
The Dressta TD-40E Extra crawler dozer
features a quieter, environment-friendly
Cummins QSK19 Tier 3 engine. This model
delivers an enhanced drawbar pull resulting
from a higher maximum torque of 2,379 Nm,
up by 42 Nm compared to the previous TD40E model with Tier 2 engine.
The Tier-3 engine delivers 560 gross
power per SAE J1995, and 555 net power
per SAE J1349 at 2,000 rpm. Engine
displacement continues at 19 l. The TD-40E
Extra has an operating weight of 67,700 kg
that includes standard equipment, semi-U
blade with tilt, single-shank ripper, coolant,
lubricants and full fuel tank. It also has a
full-U blade capacity of 22.8 cu m as well as
coal blade capacity of 39.8 cu m. The ripper
selection includes single-shank (standard

or deep dig) and multi-shank (with threeshanks) attachments.

The cooling module has a two-speed fan
with a 1,270 mm diameter blade to handle
the cooling characteristics of the new Tier 3
engine. The low speed fan conserves power
while providing a quieter operation when
working with lighter loads or to deliver
an extra boost of power for short periods
under heavy load conditions. Like the
TD-25M Extra, the TD-40E Extra also has
a gear range pre-selection system and an
automatic downshift function which offers
the operator the choice of various automatic
operating modes.
The standard six-sided cab offers a
deluxe interior with superior all-around
visibility. The two doors and sliding side
and rear windows provide excellent viewing
from within the cab. To go along with the

large view area out of the cab, excellent

blade and ripper sight lines make it easier
for the operator to have precise control of
the machine.
The combination of a three-speed
transmission with two-speed (Hi/Lo) steering
yields six forward and reverse ground speeds
for unsurpassed load matching capabilities.
The TD-40E Extra has a single-lever joystick
control that combines the functions of three
levers into a single joystick.
In addition, Dressta engineers have
combined the hydraulic control system
on the TD-40E Extra with advanced solid
state electronic circuitry in an exclusive
electro-hydraulic motion control system. All
control functions are activated by moving
the joystick or by pushing a control button
located on the face of the joystick. n

Hamm VC compactor with crusher drum for multi purposes

Hamms new VC compactor with crusher
drum was among the companys highlights
at bauma 2013. It can simultaneously crush
and compact a wide variety of construction
and mineral materials.
The VC compactor uses its vibrating,
tool-equipped drum to crush and loosen
rock and concrete. The specially developed
quick-change toolholder system can accept
a wide range of tools, allowing the drum to
be used not only as a rock crusher or to precrush and loosen rocky ground, but also as
a padfoot roller.
To enable customers all over the world to
take advantage of this new technology, Hamm
is offering two VC compactors - H 25i VC
with a 160 kW Tier 4i/EU IIIB engine and
3625 HT VC with a Tier 3/EU IIIA engine
developing 155 kW.
A total of 150 quick-change toolholders
are welded to the drum. A wide range of
tools can be attached to them in a few simple
steps. A typical example is the fitting of
special padfoot attachments, turning the VC
compactor into a padfoot roller. For crushing
or loosening rock, the drum is fitted with
picks developed specifically for this purpose.
Their geometry and the differently shaped
solid carbide tips are specially designed for
rocks with different compressive strengths.
Hamm offers a range of cutting tool types for
earth and rockwork tasks.
The design of the quick-change toolholder
is highly innovative - it enables tools to be
swapped quickly; it is less susceptible to the
adhesion of dirt and easy to clean.
The wealth of tools available also results in
an exceptionally wide application spectrum.
Equipped with padfoot attachments, the
machine can compact cohesive soils. Fitted
with picks, the crusher drum breaks up
rock layers consisting of basalt, granite or
minerals of comparable compressive strength
as well as mixed soils, while compacting the
soil to a great depth.
Roadbuilding applications include
homogenisation of rock or breaking up
concrete as well as compaction during
cold recycling. The VC compactor can also
be used to create deliberate cracking in
concrete and to break up structures.
There are also numerous potential
applications in the preparation of routes
in rocky terrain, from preliminary rock
breaking to the preparation and maintenance
of access ways in quarries up to track laying
in tunnels or mines.
In addition, the VC compactor is
environment-friendly because it eliminates

also possible.

a large number of transport and handling

steps. This simplifies the process, reduces
fuel consumption and saves a great deal of
time and expenditure. A typical example of
this is hard rock crushing with simultaneous
compaction, one of the most important
applications for VC compactor. A much
smaller number of excavators and crushers
are needed, depending on the material
involved.
Another resource-conserving application
is the pre-crushing or loosening of rock for
recycling in situ. With the aid of the VC
compactor, construction materials are broken
up and compacted on site, before being
processed by the cold recycler without the
need for additional transport.
Efficiency can be increased by fitting
the drum with interchangeable pads. When
compacting extremely abrasive, fine-grain
minerals, the padfoot elements can simply
be replaced as a wearing part, rather than
replacing the complete padfoot drum.
The VC compactor also has a wealth of
uses in the preparation of routes in rocky
terrain, such as the loosening of hard ground,

tracklaying or the reinstatement of quarries.

Another example is the pre-crushing of rock
prior to removal by cold milling. Experience
gained in tunnel building shows that milling
capacity can also be greatly increased with
the crusher drum.
Furthermore, the VC compactor with
crusher drum is exceptionally thrifty
in terms of fuel consumption and other
operating costs thanks to the Hammtronic
machine control system fitted as standard.
It optimises the engine output and adjusts
the operating conditions of the travel
and vibration drives to the ambient
conditions.
Hamm has developed a special device
for transporting the crusher drum. It enables
the machine to travel and manoeuvre on any
surface, without damage to either the tools
or the surface. The rear axle tyres are also
designed for hard work in rocky terrain.
Special EM tyres ensure that the new VC
compactor with crusher drum can make
reliable progress even in the most difficult
terrain. n

Ammann introduces new asphalt mixing plants

Prime 140 is the highly mobile version of
Ammanns successful continuous asphalt
mixing plants. It was developed specifically
for markets where high mobility is in
demand.
All continuous asphalt mixing plants
from Ammann are equipped with a
continuously running two-shaft paddle
mixer, and the Prime 140 is no exception.
One of its special features is a controllable
outlet gate that enables the filling height
and therefore the mixing time to be set
depending on recipe and output. The
outlet gate also drastically reduces losses
during plant relocation and commissioning/
decommissioning.
The Prime 140 asphalt mixing plant
features an overall length of 22.7 m
(excluding truck), with a width of 3.2 m
and height of 4.4 m. It has an output of
140 t/h.
The EasyBatch 140 is designed
specifically for top mobility and a high
output. The completely autonomous asphalt
mixing plant produces quality asphalt at
a continuous output rate of 140 t/h. This
means it can provide asphalt to larger
construction sites with the flexibility of fast
recipe changes.
The EasyBatch 140 comes preassembled on two trailers and can be
set up without a crane. It is the supermobile plant among mobile mixing plants,
designed for regions with less developed
infrastructure to produce asphalt reliably
and independently.
Of course, a variety of extension options
are also available for the EasyBatch 140.
They include a five-fold screening function,
for instance, as well as a reclaimed asphalt
feed via an RAH 50 drum instead of a
standard drier drum and the addition of
foamed bitumen.
The Universal batch asphalt mixing
plant has been tried and tested for many
years in a wide range of variants. The
Universal HRT sets new standards with
regard to processing high proportions
of reclaimed asphalt. The conceptional
integration of the parallel drum system
directly above the mixer optimises the
material flow and reduces the wear inside
the recycling system to a bare minimum.
The mixing plant is further characterised
by very compact dimensions.
As with all mixing plants from Ammann,
numerous equipment and retrofitting
options are also available for the HRT.
Whether foamed bitumen, dope, fibres or

dye, the HRT concept includes a broad

range of design options and offers matured
solutions for virtually every application and
market requirement. It has an output of 320
to 400 t/h and a 120-200 t hot aggregate

silo. Mixer output is 4 or 5 t and mixed

material storage silo is 400-1,200 t.

Liebherr 1000 EC-H makes its world premiere

Liebherr unveiled its largest standard crane in the EC-H crane
series at bauma 2013. The new 1000 EC-H in the 40 t version has
a maximum lifting capacity of 11,500 kg at the tip coupled with a
radius of 80 m. The crane is available in four different versions.
The two-fall 20- and 25-t versions are for high lifting capacities
at the tip. They achieve maximum lifting capacities of 40 and
50 t respectively with two trolleys and four-fall reeving. These
large loads can be positioned precisely using Micromove fine
positioning mode. The 1000 EC-H is ideal for demanding jobs at
dam construction, power station and industrial construction sites,
for bridge construction and in shipyards.
During the design of the 1000 EC-H the focus was placed on the
newly developed top section of the crane and its perfect tailoring to
the 1000 HC tower system. The monoblock construction of the 1000
HC tower system means that it can be erected quickly and easily.
Unlike tower systems which can be fully dismantled, the zero play
taper pin tower connection and high precision fit of the tower sections
has hardly any adverse effect on the service life of the entire tower
system even if it is erected and dismantled frequently.
Another focal point of the development and design work for this
new crane was to improve the transport sizes and weights so as to
reduce transport costs and eliminate the need for special transport
equipment. Jib sections can be transported inside the 1000 HC
tower system and the counter-jib can be split into four parts for
transport. The top section of the crane can be transported in full
in standard containers, which means that it can also be loaded at
low cost for overseas transport.
Liebherrs practical erection technology ensures that the tower
crane can be erected efficiently and safely. For example, the slewing
platform including the switchgear cabinet and cabin can be placed
on the tower in a single hoist. The Connect and Work quick-release
fastening system, which Liebherr offers as standard on all its tower
cranes reduces erection times. The quick-release fastenings include
the connections of jib and counter-jib, cab and switchgear platforms
and the plug-in quick-release systems for the electrical connections
to the hoist gear.
The 1000 EC-H has a wide range of high performance drive
units from the Liebherr competence centre for drive technology.
Liebherr supplies standard hoist gear versions with capacities of

crane series.

65 kW or 110 kW for the crane as well as

a newly developed three-speed FC hoist
gear that develops 110 kW. All these drive
versions ensure high hoist speeds.
The 1000 EC-H is fitted with the new
SD-shift hoist gear generation, which
provides a wide range of capacities and
speeds. All loads are always moved at
maximum speed using the automatic load
adjustment system. The new hoist gear units
have a compact design and require little
maintenance since they no longer need
mechanical gearboxes.
The control technology featured on the
1000 EC-H is also designed to be completely
future proof. The new crane control system
meets the very highest demands for crane
operation and its redundant design enhances
site safety.
The new 1000 EC-H is only available
in a Litronic version and includes all the
familiar benefits of the Litronic crane control
system. These include, for example, the MDE
machine data recording system, the LMB
load moment limiter and the facility for an
increased load curve LM2. In addition, the
1000 EC-H is compatible with the LiDAT
remote diagnostic system. n

machine can handle any demanding job on
the construction site. Less than 3 m wide on
the highway, it can be transported quickly and
easily. The train can be comfortably hauled
on a long-distance flatbed truck.
The 673 R-HD is ready to use as soon as
it arrives at the construction site. With the
telescoping crawler tracks, time-consuming
levelling and supports, as they are necessary
with AT-cranes are a thing of the past. The
machine can easily work on a slope up to 4
degrees. It quickly gets the job done on the
construction site with its 36 m long boom arm.
Two fly boom versions of 8 m and 15 m extend
the maximum reach to 51 m. The integrated
heavy-duty jaw functions at an offset angle
up to 40 degrees.
The 673 R-HD can reliably carry loads
up to 70 t. The four-stage telescoping boom
extends smoothly under hydraulic actuation;
all the functions are fully available even
under loads, which maximises flexibility and
thus a complicated single cylinder system
can be omitted.
As the first telescoping crane of the new
E-series, the 673 R-HD satisfies Tier IIIB/4
emission standards, thanks to the powerful
160 kW Deutz engine in combination with a
soot particle filter and cutting-edge exhaust
after-treatment system. In addition, the
machine offers significant energy savings
in Eco Mode operation at a reduced engine
speed. The new Sennebogen Sencon control
and diagnostics system offers a clear view of
all operating parameters and easy, intuitive
user control, as well as the ability to fine-tune
machine performance and quickly process

an excellent view of the work area, the 673
R-HD can optionally come equipped with an
hydraulically elevated cabin. The cabin can
be raised an additional 2.7 m and tilt up to 30
degrees to provide a commanding view.
Whats more, the machine is very easy
to service. The central lubrication point
for all articulations and the slewing ring
reduces the required amount of servicing,
optimises accessibility to servicing points
and important components, and saves time
during operation. n

Simex hydraulic attachments now available in Southeast Asia

Simex is an Italian manufacturer of hydraulic attachments for
earthmoving machines. The company recently entered into collaboration
with Singapore-based International Plant & Equipment (IPE) to market
its products in Southeast Asia and Far East. IPE has a network of offices
with technical back-up support throughout Southeast Asia.
Designed for use with excavators and skid steer loaders, Simex
crusher buckets feature a rotor with teeth powered by two direct drive
hydraulic motors. The huge tooth force is able to crush any type of
material such as concrete, asphalt slabs, glass and other rubble. The
buckets are sturdy and lightweight to match perfectly with the prime
mover and are shaped like a standard bucket for better functionality. They can be operated efficiently even in mud or when working
with wet material. Koh Brothers in Singapore has recently ordered
a Simex CBE30 crusher bucket.
Simex rotary cutters are designed for high productivity. The
internal hydraulic piston motor and direct drive rotary cutters
guarantee maximum efficiency and minimum non-operational space
between cutters. A high-strength drive shaft design is not subjected
to the working stress of the rotary cutters, which are independently
supported by long-life bearings. Simex double drum rotary cutters
produce small diameter spoils, have a low noise output and are
environment-friendly. Simex TF rotary cutters are ideal for cutting
on hard and compact materials, concrete or rock wall profiling quarry
works, demolitions and dredging. Simex has recently delivered
a TF1000 mounted on a Cat 323D excavator to CMC, an Italian
