Dr Patricia Weerakoon has become ground zero for a discussion about whether the Sydney Evangelical SRE
franchise, should extend to teaching sex and sex education from a Christian point of view in our public schools in
Australia its also tied to a bigger social question of just how anti social a religious group can be and still be respected.
A columnist for the Canberra times wrote that the head of Christian Schools Australia has attacked the Anglican
Church and the former Archbishop of Sydney saying the church has lost its ability to speak to women in this
generation. Those are pretty big claims and they are all riding on the biography of Dr. Weerakoon who may look
frail, but is surely no shrinking violet. .

FIRISs point of view is not that Christians should be denied the right to have a point of view it is that sexulality and
human heatlh are matters which the public takes an interest in and we have standards as a society best practices if
you will and one of these best practices is that you dont get to base your reasons on because it says in the bible and
be taken seriously as a health professional.
Weerakoon, however is not merely a Christian, shes not merely a academic, shes an activist with a weaponized form
of Christian fundamentalism which to be honest is not something you expect to see doing handicrafts, baking
cookies and sporting a Sari every day just sayin. So if anyone ought to have some grasp on not being judged by
stereo types, it is our good Dr. of Biblical Sex. The Anglican media campaign, which has, I predict launched its first
and last book, calls itself Fervr and it uses a teen theme to get kids to focus on Jesus instead of sex (yes really).

Its not even just about sex ed. its very much about who gets to have what rights in society, not only because of the
bible but because what is good for us according to the evidence. Want to keep lesbians from raising kids? Easy, just
pay for studies that show girls raised without fathers tend to have no self respect. As you see here on Weerakoons

The church cant have it both ways it cant both claim that its practices and beliefs are rights and ALSO that these
beliefs and practices are normative because they are supported by science yet that is just what is going on all the
time.
For example, the bible says God created man so we have creation science and the bible says God made Eve out of
Adam and so we have Dr. Patricia Weerakoon with her biblical sexology folks once you are in schools doing
science you dont get to make up your own facts, or twist them because you want the bible to be infallible. Pick
one, or the other. You cant have BOTH.
What FIRIS has done with the help of an expert is to show how the teachings contained in Teen Sex by the Book are
not acceptable for teaching in a school run on the principles of reason and evidence. If you want to live according to
the bible, that is your right, but you can not hijack our schools.
Deanne Carsons review of this sex teaching exposes the difference between what Weerakoon says the bible says
about sex and what we currently know about sex.
This is not a small issue, because we also know now that sex and sexuality are not just simple matters of me tarzan
you jane, as it says in the bible.

The last point I want to make, in case anyone thinks FIRIS is picking on an Sri Lankan Dr. Ruth, is that the Sydney
Evangelicals are clearly thrilled by the biography of Dr Patricia Weerakoon, and because the Syndey Evangelicals are
less and less like a church and more an more like a PR agency, they love spin and branding and all the bells and
whistles that come with the modern world which they ironically feel oppressed by, and I have to hand it to them,
having a sweet smiling Sri Lankan woman crack dick jokes is way better than a creepy phlegmatic old white guy
cackling about how women should submit to their husbands or how he is sooooo worried about the short lives of gay
people. So they have thrust her (pun intended) into the bung fight, NOT FIRIS.

In this video you can meet this sweet sounding, joke cracking, fridge magnet collecting, train kitch hoarding, slut
shaming, biblical sexologist from Sri Lanka who is a persona, not even JK Rowling could conjure up as person,
shes seems all fun and games as a person advising gay teens on sex she is just Peter Jensen in a Sari.
FIRIS hates to come after Sri Lankan grannies, its not a good look, but if that is the kind battle bot the the Sydney
Evangelicals are gonna rock up with we have brought our own sexologist to the cage match. This is a fight the
Sydney Evangelicals decided to have by hauling their sex ed manual into our schools and calling it based on evidence
not dogma.
