4. First-Aid Measures
a. Effects and symptoms
Inhalation

May lead to mucous membrane irritation, tightness of chest, respiratory

tract irritation, coughing, headache, shortness of breath. May lead to
allergic sensitive in some individuals resulting in asthma-like symptoms
upon exposure below TLV. Sensitized ersons should be removed from
any further exposure. Persons with asthma-type conditions or other
chronic respiratory diseases should be excluded from working with the
chemical.

Ingestion

Skin Contact

Localized irritation and discoloration may occur. Occasionally contact

dermatitis is produced as a manifestation of a specific skin allergy.

Eye Contact

Liquid can cause eye irritation, tearing, reddening and swelling.

Permanent cornea injury is unlikely. In addition, vapors in excess of
0.02ppm may cause irritation.

Ingestion

Ingestion is unlikely, the acute oral LD 50 is greater than 15g/kg.

Ingestion can cause irritation and corrosive action in the month, stomach
and digeslive tract.

b. Effects and
symptoms
Inhalation

Move to uncontaminated area, administer oxygen if necessary.

Asmathic-like symptoms, if manifested, may developed immediately, or
be delayed for up to several hours. Obtain medical attention.
Treatment is symptomatic.

Ingestion

Skin Contact

Wash area thoroughly with soap and water.

Eye Contact

Flush with water for at least 15 minutes holding lids open with fingers
consult a physician.

Ingestion

Do not induce vomiting. Drink water to reduce corrosity.

5. Fire-Fighting Measures
Extinguishing Media

Large quantity water, foam, dry chemical, Carbon Dioxide.

Special Firefighting
Procedures

Wear self-contained breathing apparatus and full protective clothing.

Fire fighting equipment must be thoroughly cleaned and decontaminated
after use.

Unusual Fire And

Explosion Hazards

Reaction with water may foam.

Avoid water contamination in closed containers or confined areas.

6. Accidental Release Measures

Personal Precaution

Wear appropriate protective clothing and recommended respiratory

equipment.

Environmental

Do not allow to enter sewerage systems or open watercourses.

Precautions
Methods for Cleaning

Spilled should be covered with loose, ahsorbent, non-biodegradable

Up

material. Deactivation solution (90% water, 8% concentrated

ammonia, 2% detergent) over spilt area; allow to react 10 minutes or
longer. Collect materials in open containers and treat with additional
deactivating solution ; allow to stand uncovered for 24-48 hours. Wash
area with deactivating solution. Respiratory, eye and skin protection
should be worn during spill, clean-up and ventilation maintained.

7. Handling and Storage

Handling

Avoid contact with eyes, skin and clothing. Avoid breathing vapor or

mist. Use adequate ventilation.

handing.
Storage

Wash hand and face thoroughly after

Do not stare drums uncovered out of doors. Do not reseal container

unless it is certain that no moisture contamination has occurred.

8. Exposure Controls/ Personal Protection

Engineering Measure

Local exhaust required to keep airborne concentration below the TLV.

Explosion protected electrical equipment. Follow guidelines in the
ACGTH publication <Industrial Ventilation> Exhaust air may need to
be cleaned by scrubbers or filters to reduce environmental
contamination.

Respiratory protection Because of the low vapor pressure, ventilation is sufficient to keep vapors
below the TLV at room temperature. Exception is when the material is
sprayed or heated. If airborne concentrations exceed or are expected to
exceed the TLV, use MSHA/NIOSH approved positive pressure supplied
air respirator with a full face piece or an air supplied hood. For
emergencies, use a positive pressure self-contained breathing apparatus.
Air purifying (cartridge type) respirators are not approved for
protection against isocyanates.
Hands

Productive gloves/rubber gloves

Eyes

Chemical resistant goggles.

Skin and body

Impermeable coveralls and boots as necessary to Prevent eye and skin

contact. Safety shower, eyewash station in work area.

Other protective
measures

Clean protective clothing should be worn daily, Shower after work is

recommended.

Product and wstes disposal

Incinerate or dispose of in accordance with existing federal,

state and local environment control regulation.

Contain disposal

1. Containers should be neuralized with liquid

Decontaminant, decontaminated containers must remain
open for at least 48 hours to allow carbon dioxide gas
evolved to escape. Drums may then be disposed off in a
licensed facility.

15. SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS

Special comments

Prevent skin and eye contact. Observe TLV limitations.

Avoid breathing vapors and aerosols. Workers should
shower and change to fresh clothing after each shift.
A sensitized individual should not be Exposed to the
product which caused the sensitization. Stored in
tightly sealed containers to protect From atmospheric
moisture. Stored in cool area. Individuals with
existing respiratory disease such as chronic bronchitis,
emphysema or asthma should not be exposed to
isocyanates. These individuals should be identified
through baseline and annual evaluation and removed
from further exposure. Medical examination should
include medical history, vital capacity and forced
expiratory volume at one second.
