encontrar.
aquellas tierras lejanas.
The rider from Cantabria who started this morning in the opening
race of the Spanish calendar will also race on Tuesday (Inca
Trophy) and on Wednesday (Deià Trophy) before flying home
again.
Your ambition is to achieve a great first part of the season and you will
fight on the roads of Mallorca to show it. Nevertheless your season
already started last month in the Santos Tour Down Under. What can you
tell about Australia?
“It was not something new for me as I went there for the second
time to take part in the Tour Down Under, which is now the first
ProTour event of the year. As a consequence I knew more or less
what to expect. It is very difficult for us to win the final
classification of that race because of the routes of most of the
stages, which are too flat. Our goal was to come back with a
stage win and we did it. Australia is the perfect place to train
because of the nice weather. I came back to Europe with a good
rhythm in the legs and a very good level. I believe that I am fine
now to start the European season. The Challenge is a very
particular event because the riders who do not intend to fight for
the general classification will not race every day so that I believe
that the race in which I will really be able to judge my shape is
the Tour of Algarve. I will go there with the aim of winning the
race.”
How did you organize the training sessions during the week between the
riders who came back from Australia and the other ones who were
supposed to be late in their preparation?
“Our team is not a very organized team like many others are and
we are much more used to work with our feelings. We left the
hotel all together for training but for example when we had to
climb a rather hard hill the ones who felt stronger went ahead
while the other ones just climbed at their own rhythm. Maybe our
training sessions are different from many other teams ones but
for us it is very important that everybody works his own
intensity. We are professional and everybody knows what he has
to do. We are used to work like that and each year with good
results. Quality riders form our group and we are more or less
free to train the way we want to. It is important not to exhaust
the riders with too tough training sessions at the beginning of
the season. ”
Under, maintenant première épreuve ProTour de l’année.
Tour d’Algarve. ”
