Seven Habits of the Highly Effective Teen

Activity: Discussion of the Seven Habits of the Highly Effective Teen, the 7 Habits Tree
Worksheet, and a Ready, Do, Reflect Concept Review.

Learning Objective(s):
1. Students will be able to recognize how effective perseverance will positively influence
learning.
2. Students will learn how to prioritize their schoolwork.
3. Students will learn how to apply the 7 Habits by opting to take more AP classes.
Materials:
Pre-test; Post-test; The 7 Habits Tree worksheet; Ready, Do, Reflect handout;
Pens/pencils.

Procedure:
1. The school counselor will explain that the purpose of todays lesson is to increase
understanding of effective organizational practices and for students to learn the seven
habits of an effective teenager.
2. Next, the school counselor will administer a pre-test to all students in attendance to
test their understanding of good organization practices.
3. Upon completion of the pre-test, the school counselor will collect the pre-tests.
4. The school counselor will then distribute the 7 Habits Tree worksheet to all students
and will explain each of the seven habits with a PowerPoint; students will fill in the
worksheet as they go.
5. Then, the schools counselor will distribute the Ready, Do, Reflect handout and review
the ideas behind these useful tips to help students be more organized.
6. Next, the school counselor will engage with students in a brief discussion on the
importance of Advanced Placement classes.
7. Finally, the school counselor will administer a post-test to all the students to see how
their understanding of good organization practices has changed after the lesson.
Plan for Evaluation: How will each of the following be collected?
Process Data: The entire sophomore class will participate in the lesson, which is a
projected number of 204 students.
Perception Data: Students will be able to identify at least three of the seven habits of
Highly Effective Teens and be able to describe at least one of the habits in detail.
Outcome Data: The number of students who enroll in AP courses will increase from 50%
to 60%.
Follow Up: The next time the sophomores are planning to meet with their counselors
regarding academic planning for the following school year, the school counselors will
administer a brief survey to get an understanding as to how many students are interested
in enrolling in AP classes the following year and how many AP classes they are interested
in taking.
