DEPERTMENTAL EXAM

TORONTO - In the cult movie classic Attack of the Killer Tomatoes, mutant
Vegetables cut a deadly swath through the community, consuming everyone
in their
path.
But Canadian astronaut Bob Thirsk says Toronto students cultivating tomato
seeds from space shouldnt worry about like imitating art.
There should be no fear on the part of teachers or parents about any toxic
fruit
growing from these tomato plants, said Thirsk, who flew aboard the shuttle
Columbia on a 17-day mission in 1996.
He said hell eat tomatoes produced from the high-flying seeds or use them
to
make salsa or ketchup.
Thirsk visited students at St. Cecillia Catholic School on Annette St.
yesterday to
check up on their experiments with tomato seeds taken into space by
astronaut
Mark Garneau.
The Tomatosphere project involves 2,500 secondary school classrooms
across
Canada growing 400,000 seeds, half of which made the trip to space. Space
plants
are said to grow faster and taller.
The space-flown seeds made 170 orbits of the Earth, travelled more than 7
million kilometers and spent 12 days weightless, Thirsk said.
At the end of June, schools will send results of their experiment to the
Canadian
Space Agency which will compile the date and make conclusions.
Thirsk said the program is designed to introduce space science to young
Canadians. I can see that in these classrooms we have potential future
Canadian
scientists and astronauts, he said. I find that incredibly exciting.

PARENTS
Parents. I consider mine as my flat mates these days because
we do not spend much time together. We are four people living
in a house together but we even eat our dinners separately
because everybody comes home at different times and we are
busy all the time. What I remember from the old days is my two
grown up flat mates are two different characters so I have no idea
why they still live together.
They are pretty much the same in physical appearance. They
both have fair complexions which is typical of Caucasians. They
should be thin if we consider this type but they are not. Actually
they were but I cant remember those days.
They have different personalities. My father is moody and pretty
much aggressive just like me. He has obsessions, like everything
should be perfect. On the other hand, my mother never cares
about what she is doing and she has what we will call the patience
of a saint. Whenever my father gets angry and starts shouting,
my mother goes Ergun, why are you shouting? with a very calm
voice.
What they really cant get along about is their tastes in life. My
mother loves spending money. She can spend her whole day
going around the stores shopping while my father is sitting at
home reading newspapers and books or watching documentaries
on TV.

Christopher Brodie is this morning celebrating his gold medal success in the
paralympics 100m sprint.
Yesterday, in the packed stadium in Sydney, Australia, where the games have been
taking place all week, Chris ran the race of his life to cross the line in the gold medal
position.
For any athlete a championship medal is the ultimate achievement, but for Chris it was
also the culmination of years of determination and courage. The 20 year old was just 5
when he had to have his right leg amputated below the knee. The pain caused by his
artificial leg was mot enough to stop the lively youngster from Motherwell running
around living life to the full.
When he joined the local athletics club he never dreamt that he would end up an
Olympic champion.
Now, thanks to the pioneering work of sports scientists and the doctors at Glasgows St
Thomas Hospital, Chris has been able to take advantage of the latest sports
technology, a new prosthetic sports leg.
The new leg is made of light weight materials and the foot section has as close to
normal foot movement as an artificial leg can get, said Ken Brown, one of the doctors
who worked on the project. Chris backed up Dr. Browns claim when he said that the
new leg allowed for fluid movement and a much less cumbersome running style.
Certainly, the benefits the artificial leg will bring to sports women and men all over the
world could be seen yesterday in Sydney, when Chris Brodie showed the world what a
powerful combination courage and innovation can be.
Happiness
Humankind cant continue their lives without desires. If one wants to be
happy, surely, he has to discover his best desires that provide him a
happy life. Some of these desires that help to continue our lives can be
acceptance in our relationships, a good family life and strong social
relations. Trying to satisfy these desires has a great meaning to achieve
happiness for me.
To start with, however embarrassed I am about this desire of mine, I have
an obsession to expect people to accept my thoughts and manners in
every situation. Yes, this is not a good characteristic and sometimes
makes me an antipathic person but trying to be accepted by someone can
give you happiness, too. Besides, if you can manage to make someone
love you knowing and accepting all about you, I think that is the absolute
happiness.
Furthermore, it seems to me that family is the basic source of happiness.
Certainly, I cant always be a good guy and sometimes I make them upset
