The Home Depot (incorporated in 1978) is a home improvement retailer. The Home Depot stores are full-service warehouse-style
stores that sell an assortment of building materials, home improvement and lawn and garden products and provide a number of
services. The Home Depot stores average approximately 104 000 square feet of enclosed space with approximately 24 000 additional
square feet of outside garden area; and serve three primary customer groups: do-it-yourself (D-I-Y) customers do-it-for-me (D-I-F-M)
customers and professional customers. As of January 29 2012 the Company was operating 2 252 stores; including 1 974 stores in the

Average Hours/Week:
An average of 32 to 40 hours can be expected each week over the course of the program.
Typical Schedule:
Schedules will vary depending on store needs and seasonality. Employees should be prepared to work various morning and
afternoon/evening shifts, both during the week and weekends.
Position Description:
The Cashier/Returns Associate plays a critical customer service role by providing customers with fast, friendly, accurate and safe
service and can converse with customers in native language. Contacts the Head Cashier or other member of management if customer
needs are not met. Monitors and maintains Self Checkout area and/or processes return transactions, as assigned. Proactively seeks
product/project knowledge to provide customers with information and identify selling opportunities. Follows all policies and procedures
outlined in training. Each associate has the responsibility of providing a safe working and shopping environment by following all safety
policies & standards, completing specified safety training, immediately correcting hazards & unsafe conditions or reporting conditions
to the Manager On Duty, and working safely as not to endanger themselves, co-workers, vendors, or customers.

Additional application documents:
Employees will need to take a drug test and background check after arriving in Anchorage. The drug test typically takes 2 days to get
the results and the background can take up to 7 days (although the average is around 3 days). Once this information is cleared they
can start.
All employees must fill out the Home Depot paper application with the partner before being considered for this position.

All Home Depot employees must pass a drug test before starting work. As soon as you arrive someone from the Home Depots
Associate Relation Team will contact you to tell you where to meet for testing.. They will have to take the drug test and background
after arriving in the US. The drug test typically takes 2 days to get the results and the background can take up to 7 days.

* Professional appearance style and hygiene
* A clean Home Depot apron while on duty in all areas of the store; must be worn over approved shirts or blouses back belts jackets
etc.
* Safety apparel or equipment such as safety belts gloves or any necessary or required equipment
* Neat clean properly fitting clothing
* Clean appropriately-sized casual slacks pants or jeans
* Skirts or dresses
* Hemmed walking shorts for hourly associates only for a specific season as determined by the Division President
UNACCEPTABLE:
* Appearance or hygiene that may be offensive to our customers
* Name tag without an apron or a dirty apron
* Non-Home Depot patches and pins on the apron
* Unfastened safety belt torn gloves
* Baggy tight or dirty clothing
* Ripped patched or cutoff casual slacks pants or jeans
* Spandex exercise or similar material
* Skirts or dresses shorter than three inches above the knee

Grooming:
Please present a clean and neat appearance. Please no visible piercing studs or rings except for ears on females; hair should be
pulled back from face; facial hair must be kept trimmed and neat and men must wear their hair above shoulders. All employees
must bathe and brush teeth daily.
Additional Information:
On your first day of work employees will participate in a paid New Hire Orientation. These are a series of web based training

courses that must be completed before you start work on the sales floor. This training is called Before the Apron Training. Each
new-hire will also be given a New Associate Coach that will act as their mentor and trainer for the next 30 days.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION RELATED TO HIRING:
Work Experience is very important and participants should be prepared to speak about their:
o Past work experience. How many years in retail? Sales? Home Improvement? Working with a cash register?
o Rate their knowledge or experience with:
Power tools
Hand tools
Home improvement projects (what types youve assisted with)
Working with products such as:
Lumber and framing
Flooring
Hardware
Electrical
They should know simple square footage and conversion tables for common measurement methods.
o Example: If you have ceramic tiles that are 12X12 inches how many tiles would it take to cover a 4ft X 6ft floor?
There might be questions dealing with the cash register.
o Example: If the bill was $42.00 and the customer gives you a gift card for $23.00 how much change would you give the
customer?
Lastly be prepared to speak about:
o What type of learner they are... Independent? Requires supervision? Takes the leadership role? Likes working in small groups?
o What type of feedback do they usually get from family? Friends? Co-workers? Managers?
o Do they enjoy challenges? Doing things for themselves? A fast pasted environment?
o Give specific EXAMPLES of when and/or how you provided exceptional customer service. They should be able to elaborate on
these examples and use this question to set themselves apart from other applicants.
