Components of Writing

According to David Harris there are five general components in writing, they are:
a. Grammar
: The employment of grammatical pattern.
b. Content
: The substance or writing ideas express the unity
c. Organization : The organization of contents or the ideas, it is coherence or
not,
it is unified or not
d. Vocabulary : The selection word that is suitable with the content.
e. Mechanic
: The use of graphic conventions of the language.
The criteria of each writing score are: Content (0-20), Organization (0- 20), Grammar
(0-20), Vocabulary (0-20), and Mechanic (0-20). So, the total score for writing
descriptive paragraph are 100.

In conclusion, there are some criteria to measure the students' summary writing and it
has each writing score and level of score for each criteria, such as: for (0-5) it means
that poor score, (6-10) it means that the score is fair, (11-15) it means that the score is
good and for (16-20) it means that the score is excellent. And from all the score of
each criteria it can be the total score of students' writing summary.
