KEY SKILLS

Final year project of the BEng degree course was: Bridge Feasibility Design to improve a roundabout.
This included: Method Statement, Conceptual design, Project Scoping, Geology, COBA, Traffic
analysis and Risk assessment.

I have 4years experience in structural assessments and report writing for Highway and Railway
bridges. Experience has been gained in the assessment of bridge structures in steel, concrete
(reinforced & pre-stressed) and masonry also in use of bridge assessment codes and DMRB’s. I have
management experience gained by working as an assistant project manager on various civil
engineering projects. I also have Experience in using LUSAS, RING and Supper STRESS computer
programs as bridge analysis packages, together with MS Excel, Word and Power point.

Bridge Engineer – Worked on the following projects:

Claverton Street Subway project – In-situ concrete box culvert: I carried out the inspection,
assessment calculations and report writing. The main member assessed was the in-situ concrete box
culvert, Super STRESS computer program was used for analysis and MS Excel was used for
calculations.

Courty gollen bridge Project – Two span steel bridge: I carried out the assessment calculations and
report writing. Main member assessed was the two span internal steel UB incased in concrete, in the
assessment it was assumed that only the steel section will Cary the applied load. Supper STRESS
computer program was used for analysis.

Camden Crescent viaduct Project- The viaduct consisted of 13 numbers in-situ brick vaults: I
carried out the assessment calculations and report writing. In the assessment 6 Arches from no.13 to 8
assumed to be critical were analyzed to represent the whole structure and RING computer program
was used for analysis.

Lansdowne Park & Ride Design- Bath: I carried out the preparation of project management
documents. The project scope was: Expansion of the existing park and ride from 480 to 880 car park
spaces, and the review of the car park to see whether it can achieve secure by design status. Project
cost £120, 000.00

Castle Place Multi- storey Car Park – Trowbridge: I carried out the Preparation of project
management documents. Project scope: To provide the car park survey and services to assist with the
refurbishment contract. Project cost £250, 000.00

Graduate Civil Engineer – Worked on the following projects:

Castle Cary Station Foot Bridge 129m 44ch WEY: I carried out assessment calculations and the
assessment report writing. The foot bridge comprised of 2 spans with timber decking, plan bracing, u-
frames, main girders, stair cases and trestles. All main members were assessed, LUSAS computer
program was used for analysis and MS Excel was used as a calculation tool.

Mackynleth Station Foot Bridge: I carried out assessment calculations and the assessment report
writing. The foot bridge comprised of 2 spans with concrete decking, plan bracing, u-frames, main
girders, stair cases and trestles. All main members were assessed. LUSAS computer program was
used for analysis and MS Excel was used as a calculation tool.

Droitwich station foot bridge 126m 10ch OW: I carried out assessment calculations and the
assessment report writing. The foot bridge comprised of 3 spans with timber decking, plan bracing, u-
frames, main girders, stair cases and trestles, all main members were assessed. LUSAS computer
program was used for analysis and MS Excel was used as a calculation tool.

Whitland Station Foot Bridge 258m 68ch SWM: I carried out assessment calculations and the
assessment report writing. The foot bridge comprised of 3 spans with timber decking, plan bracing, u-
frames, main girders, stair cases and trestles, all main members were assessed. LUSAS computer
program was used for analysis and MS Excel was used as a calculation tool.

Lympstone Tydal way Railway Under Bridge 6m 55.5ch EMT: I carried out assessment
calculations and the assessment report writing. The bridge comprised a single span contiguously
laid worn bull head rails acting as the bridge deck. Main member assessed were the bull head
rails and MS Excel was used as a calculation tool.

River frome Under Bridge 0m 1ch FNS2: I carried out assessment calculations and the
assessment report writing. The bridge comprised 3 spans segmental brickwork arch barrels, and
the main members assessed were the arch barrels. Excel computer program was used as a
calculation tool.

Carn Brea, Dunn’s Under Bridge 312m 45.5ch MLN, Frome WEY 112m 54.75ch Under
Bridge and Frome Sheppards Over Bridge 0m 21.5ch FNS2: I carried out assessment
calculations and assessment report writing for the 3 bridges. All 3 bridges Comprised a single span
pre cast pre stressed concrete beams transversely post tensioned. Main member assessed ware
the critical pre cast pre stressed concrete beams and excel computer program was used as a
calculation tool.

Okt 1996 – Okt 1998 TANZANIA GOVERNMENT, MINISTRY OF WORKS


Executive Civil Engineer – Buildings. Dar-Es-Salaam Office.

Main duties included: designing of Government buildings, inspections and assessment


calculations for repairs and refurbishments of Government and Public buildings. I designed
timber roofs for village hotels, an extension to a 5-storey reinforced concrete frame office
building. I also carried out Architectural hand drawings for single and double storey
residential houses, together with site supervisions on constructions, repairs and refurbishment
works

Aug 1989 – Aug 1990 Civil Engineer Technician – Buildings. Dar-Es-Salaam Office.

Main duties included carrying out inspections and assessments for repair and maintenance of
Government and public buildings, together with preparation of bills of quantities and site
supervision.
