INTRODUCTION TO
ROUTING PROTOCOL
Introduction
The main function of the network layer is Addressing and routing
Routing is a function which is responsible for bringing the data passes
through a set of network by choosing the best path to pass the data
Routing tasks will be carried out in the network device called a router
Router
The router is a hardware network that duty or function to connects two
or more networks
Type the router:
Computers that we enable Router
Special equipment is designed as a Router
Default Gateway
In order for Router can forward data, existing computers on the
network must assign the router to forward data
Assignment is done by setting the default gateway computer to the
router
If we do not set the default gateway then certainly the LAN can not be
connected to other networks
Indirect
Delivery
(indirect
connect)
Hop count
The number of routers a packet must pass through to reach a particular
network
Metric
A value used to define the suitability of a particular route
Routers use metrics to determine which routes are better than other routes

DYNAMIC
ROUTING
Static Routing
Is a filling mechanism for the routing table manually performed by admin on
each router
The advantage:
Relieve existing processors work on router
No BW that used for the exchange of information between routers routing
table contents
Higher security level vs. other mechanisms
Disadvantages:
Admin must know information of each connected router network
If there are any additions / changes to network topology admin must
change the contents of the routing table
Unsuited for large networks
Dynamic Routing
Routing protocol is communication between the routers
Routing protocol allows routers to share information about the network and
the connection between the router
The router uses this information to build and improve its routing table
Routing protocol is different from the routed protocol.
Examples of routing protocols:
