About AW Suite 2.0

AW Suite is a secondary application for advanced imaging and is one of the GE Extend
products. GE Extend products allow you to increase the functionality of the GE Centricity
Workstation by running secondary applications on the Centricity Workstation (CWS). The
secondary applications (also known as Third Party applications) that can run on the
Centricity Workstation fall into three categories:

Radiology Information System (RIS) Applications

Dictation Applications

Advanced Imaging Applications

Centricity AW Suite includes the Volume Viewer application.

The Centricity AW Suite allows both the Centricity Workstation and the AW applications to
reside on the same machine. Centricity AW Suite is opened through the Centricity
Workstation. Username or password need not be re-entered to log into the AW
applications. The application automatically loads the selected patient exam data in a
separate window. The patient, exam, series and image context is always shared with the
Workstation application.

Caution:

Automatic synchronization between Centricity Workstation and Centricity AW

Suite only occurs when you click the AW button.

when the Spatial Cursor tool is used on the Workstation. One example for using this
feature is when navigating on a 2D imageset in the Workstation application the cursor will
automatically link to the corresponding image in the 3D imageset in the Centricity AW
Suite application.

Note:

To use spatial cursor, the image series must be in 1-up or Stack mode. This is true for
AW Suite 1.0 and AW Suite 2.0.

Note:

If the exam includes rejected images which would cause slices to be missing in the
AW view, the Spatial Cursor feature will not work. The images and configuration must
meet certain conditions for the Spatial Cursor to be operable.
For more information on Spatial Cursor, refer to the Centricity Workstation Online Help.

13-2-3: Linked Window/Level

Changing the Window/Level (W/L) on an imageset in the either the Workstation or the
Centricity AW Suite application will also change the W/L on the imageset in the other. The
W/L changes when the mouse button is released.

Note:

The editable text in the right pane is separate from the AW Suite report and is not
appended to the saved report--the editable text is only viewable next to the saved
report for which the comment text is entered.

4. To export to another program the text in either pane of the Report window, use the
mouse to select the desired text, then copy (using Ctrl-c to copy) and paste (using
Ctrl-v to paste) into the desired application.

13-9: Site-Wide Protocols

Site-wide protocols are protocols that a System Administrator or other privileged user
makes available to all end users. Site-wide protocols are protocols that a System
Administrator or other privileged user adds (in addition to the factory protocols that already
exist). Just as factory protocols are, site-wide protocols are available to all users working
on an appropriately-configured Centricity Workstation, regardless of other user
preferences or settings for protocols.
Site-wide protocols may not be deleted. If you attempt to delete a protocol that cannot be
deleted (either a factory protocol or a site-wide protocol), a dialog box displays stating that
the protocol may not be deleted.
To use site-wide protocols, contact your system administrator or other privileged user for
your site.

Note:

The protocols of only one privileged user at a time may be used for site-wide
protocols.

TalkStation Overview
The Centricity Extend Talk Technology online help covers the user interface changes
made to the Centricity Workstation to accommodate the integration of the TalkStation
software. This integration adds one button to the Centricity Workstation Work Modes
palette and the Exam Functions drop-down menu.
When the TalkStation software is invoked, it appears in a separate application window and
uses the current Centricity Workstation User ID and Password to log into the TalkStation
application. The selected patient exam data is loaded into the TalkStation application
automatically. No matter where in Centricity you launch TalkStation, it will always match up
with the current displayed patient exam (unless the user preference "Automatically
Synchronize Display Images" is turned off). The user can hide/show the TalkStation
window with the bottom button on the SpeechMike.
Users launch the Centricity application. Successful login into Centricity will provide an
auto-login and authentication for the Talk application. When you logout of Centricity, you
are also logged out of the Talk application.

Loop through Exams

By checking the Loop Through Opened Exams option (with multiple exams opened on
Centricity), you have the ability to "loop through" Centricity's Opened Exams List (from the
drop-down menu). You can do this with either method listed below:

Click on the Next Exam button in the Centricity Function Bar.

Using a voice command on TalkStation. (See your GE Field Engineer on how to

setup voice commands.)

Once you reach the bottom of the worklist, the next exam to be opened is the exam at the
top of the list, essentially "looping" back to the beginning of the worklist.

4-4:

Skip Dictated Exams

You may check the Skip Dictated Exams options (with multiple exams opened and Loop
Through Opened Exams checked). This option skips exams that have been dictated
while looping through the opened exams list. Once all exams have been dictated, you will
be notified by a message dialog box.

4-5:

Adding Voice Commands

You have the ability to initiate the following three functions via voice commands through
the TalkStation microphone. Each workstation has the ability to process three voice
commands for each of the functions, effectively giving you a total of nine voice commands
per workstation.
Heres a list of the three functions available via voice command:

This will only work for exams with Accession numbers (or Order IDs , where
applicable).

Adding Exams to a TalkStation Report

You can add multiple selected exams on the Centricity Workstation to a report already
opened in the TalkStation. The following conditions must apply:

5-1:

All selected exams must have the same Patient ID as the opened report in the
TalkStation.

All selected exams must have an Order Complete status on the Talk Station.

None of the selected exams can be associated with another report on the Talk
Station.

To Add Multiple Exams

1. Select multiple exams from a worklist in the Work Modes palette.
2. Click on the Talk drop-down menu in the TalkStation and select Add Selected
Exams.
The selected exams are added to the report in the TalkStation window.

Section 6:

Synchronize Exams in TalkStation and Centricity

When you synchronize TalkStation with Centricity, the exam that TalkStation is
synchronized with is remembered.
If there is no exam in the Image View Area, selecting an exam from the Work Modes
palette and clicking on the Launch TalkStation button will bring up the context for the
exam in the worklist. However, if there is an exam displayed in the Image View Area,
TalkStation will always synch with the displayed exam. This is designed to prevent the
user error of synchronizing the wrong exam while the radiologist is looking at the
displayed exam and dictating the report.
After this synchronization has been done, you will be able to open any exam on Centricity.
This gives you the ability to pre-load exams. When the report is signed on TalkStation,
then the remembered exam will be marked dictated.
If you pre-load a different exam on Centricity, TalkStation will be automatically
synchronized with that exam after signing the report for the remembered exam.
Lets say you open Exam A.

. . . Then, you dictate a report for Exam A on TalkStation and pre-load Exam B on
Centricity.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . You sign the report for Exam A on TalkStation.

. . . . . .The report for Exam B will be automatically loaded/created on TalkStation.

When you break the synchronization (breaking the synchronization means you manually
open a different report on TalkStation), the remembered exam will then be set to the
current exam.
If you sign a report on TalkStation and the Exam ID for that report is not the same as the
remembered exam, you will see a message box notifying you that the system is not

2031481-001 Rev 3

47

synchronized. This message box will also show the remembered Exam ID and the Exam
ID for the report on TalkStation that was just signed.

Section 7:

Patient Context Synchronization During Centricity Dictate &

Review Macros
During Centricity Dictate and Review macros, we enforce patient synchronization. We
automatically open the report on TalkStation for the displayed exam (as normal). We want
to make sure the report being saved or signed was the report we automatically opened on
TalkStation.
If the user manually opens or creates a different report on TalkStation, and then saved or
signs that report, the TalkStation and Centricity will not be synchronized. There are four
cases where this can happen:
1. If the user saves or signs a report on TalkStation during Centricity Dictate or Review
macros. If the Centricity and TalkStation are not synchronized, then:
ERROR 1 is displayed to the user.
The next exam is not opened on Centricity.
The current exam is not automatically marked as dictated.
2. The user clicks on the Next Exam button on Centricity during Centricity's Dictate
macro only. If Centricity and TalkStation are not synchronized, then:
ERROR 1 is displayed to the user.
The next exam is not opened on Centricity.
The current exam is not automatically marked as dictated.
At times, we enforce synchronization when NOT executing Centricity Dictate or
Review macros.
3. A system preference can be set to automatically go to the next exam on Centricity
when the report on TalkStation is signed. We want to ensure that the report signed
was the report for the displayed exam on Centricity before going on to the next exam.
If Centricity and TalkStation are not synchronized, then:
ERROR 1 is displayed to the user.
The next exam is not opened on Centricity.
4. A system preference can be set to automatically mark the displayed exam on
Centricity as dictated when the report on TalkStation is signed. (See note below.) We
want to ensure that the report signed was the report for the displayed exam on
Centricity before automatically marking the displayed exam as dictated. If Centricity
and TalkStation are not synchronized, then:
ERROR 2 is displayed to the user.

2031481-001 Rev 3

The current exam was not automatically marked as dictated on Centricity.
This preference has no effect (does not apply) while only running the Centricity Dictate
macro.

To ensure synchronization is checked:

Always use one of the macros to save/sign a report.
Request your service administrator enable either of the following:

"automatically go to the next exam" when signed option.

"automatically mark the displayed exam dictated" when signed option.

See your GE Field Engineer on how to enable or disable the above mentioned system
preferences.

TalkStation Voice Training

If a user needs to be voice-trained on TalkStation, please contact their service
administrator or their local TalkTechnology representative. It is best to have the user

Centricity).

Section 10: Customized Workflow

There are a few system properties that can be used to help customize workflow and
ensure synchronization checks. Please contact your GE Field Engineer if you wish to
activate any of these options.
The following feature should be set to true if the exam is to be marked dictated when it is
signed on TalkStation. The Exam will not be marked dictated automatically if Centricity is
in the Work Modes palette.
com.ge.med.platinum.extend.extend1.markDictatedWhenSigned=true
This feature should be set to false to have TalkStation automatically hidden upon image
display. (This feature controls what happens when you are not using the Dictate macro.)
com.ge.med.platinum.extend.extend1.showAppOnLoad=false
If the user preference for "Automatically Synchronize on Display Images" is turned off, this
feature will not hide TalkStation.
The following feature should be set to true if you wish to automatically go to the next exam
on the Worklist after signing a report on TalkStation. (This feature controls what happens

Section 1:

Overview
The Centricity Extends PowerScribe online help covers the user interface changes made
to the Centricity Workstation to accommodate the integration of the PowerScribe software.
This integration adds one button to the Centricity Workstation Work Modes palette and
the Exam Functions drop-down menu.
The Centricity Extends PowerScribe application runs as an integrated part of a Centricity
Workstation. It uses silent log in and log out to facilitate starting and ending PowerScribe
sessions.
When a user successfully logs in or out of a Centricity Workstation, Centricity Extends
automatically logs you in or out of PowerScribe. Centricity Extends uses the current
Centricity Workstation User ID and Password to automatically log into or log out of the
PowerScribe application.
The selected patient exam is loaded into the PowerScribe application automatically. When
auto synchronization is enabled, PowerScribe will always match up with the current
displayed patient exam regardless of how it was launched.
Users then use the PowerScribe microphone to complete dictation for the patient exam.
The completed dictation appears in the PowerScribe window. The user can type in any
corrections or additional notes then save the dictation.

GE grants to Customer a limited non-transferable license to use the Licensed Software
subject to the limitations imposed under this Agreement and to the following:
The Customer shall use the Licensed Software only on the Equipment located at the Site
and solely for the purpose of processing, storing, and transmitting images and data related
to Customer's patients. Customer must obtain a supplementary license from GE (which

Section 13: Typical Interpretation Workflows

13-1: Workflows Overview
In this online help system, several workflow scenarios are presented. Each site must
evaluate and determine the one that most closely matches their site requirements.
The Extend PowerScribe integration fundamentally does three things:
1. Logs users in to PowerScribe automatically
2. Automatically synchronizes PowerScribe with an exam opened or selected from
Centricity Workstation Worklist (or, can be configured to synchronize only when the
user requests it)
3. Marks exams dictated in Centricity Workstation when the end dictation button on the
microphone (mic) is pressed (or, can be configured to mark exams dictated when the
report is signed in PowerScribe).
Marking the exam dictated in Centricity Workstation is the only action that can be
performed from PowerScribe to Centricity Workstation. All other exam status changes
initiated from the Workstation are not carried back to PowerScribe.
All other actions, whether on Centricity Workstation or with regard to the RIS / PACS
integration, are beyond the scope of this integration. Extend PowerScribe is a loose
integration, designed to relieve the user from having to manually log in to two applications,
scan barcodes to keep them in synch, and manually mark exams dictated in Centricity
Workstation.

Note:

Since this is a loose integration, there are many actions you can take, either in
Centricity Workstation or in PowerScribe, that can get exams and reports into states
requiring manual or administrator intervention to correct. Close adherence to the
workflows prescribed in this help system will improve productivity with this system.
There are three work modes in Centricity WorkstationBrowse, Verify, and Dictate:

2031481-001 Rev 3

Browse mode is designed for more random order exam browsing and dictating.

Verify mode is not used with Extend PowerScribe.

Dictate allows users to read and dictate exams in batch mode.

77

Chapter 6

PowerScribe
The first step for the site to decide is how to utilize the following two modes:
Method 1 The Dictate Macro
Method 2 Browse Mode

13-2: Method 1 The Dictate Macro

If you normally work through various unread Worklists and desire highly automated,
lockstep workflow, use Method 1 The Dictate Macro.
If you normally work in a more random manner, going from Worklist to Worklist and/or
querying for individual exams or small groups of exams, use Method 2 Browse Mode.
Use Dictate macro for normal workflow, reading exams one by one off unread Worklists.
For interruptions, the users switch to browse mode, open exams, and PowerScribe stays
synchronized with the open exam in Dictate.
When you end dictation on a current exam, the Dictate macro automatically displays the
next exam on the Worklist. (Or, PowerScribe can be configured to display the next exam
after the report is signed.) At any time, you can still display the next exam manually as
you would in Browse mode.
To use the Dictate Macro, the auto sync user preference should be off. Auto sync will
occur in Dictate mode only, allowing free exam browsing without synchronizing
PowerScribe.
If you are using the self edit worktype, or for any reason want to see your text from a
dictation while in Dictate macro, configure Extend PowerScribe to mark exams dictated
when the exams are signed. If you do not configure PowerScribe to mark exams dictated
when the exams are signed, you will not see the dictated text and the next exam will not
display after pressing the end dictation button. This option would be appropriate if you are
using the send to editor or digital dictation worktypes.
The Dictate macro provides some additional protection over Browse mode for a multi-user
environment. In Dictate macro, once a user has started the macro by opening the first
exam, Centricity Workstation will skip over other exams in the Worklist that have either
already been dictated or that are currently opened by another user.

13-3: Method 2 Browse Mode

If you normally work in a more random manner, going from Worklist to Worklist and/or
querying for individual exams or small groups of exams, use Method 2 Browse Mode.
If you normally work through various unread Worklists and desire highly automated,
lockstep workflow, use Method 1 The Dictate Macro.
Use Browse mode for normal workflow. Use the various user preferences and Extend
properties, (explained for the GE Field Engineer in the PowerScribe Service Manual), to
set up the system to meet your needs. Browse mode is very flexible, but you will then only
have one mode in which to perform your normal workflow.
To use Browse mode, the auto sync user preference should be on.

13-4: Additional Browse Mode Features

13-4-1: Zero Image Exams
When dictating exams that cannot be opened in Centricity Workstation, you can dictate
them in Browse Mode from the Centricity Workstation Worklist without actually opening
the exam and displaying the images.
To do this:
1. Select the exam in the Worklist.
2. Manually synchronize PowerScribe using the PowerScribe menu/button in the Work
Modes palette.

Note:

The signOnWorklist extend property also must be set to true for the Workstation.

The signOnWorklist property should be configured to true if you want the ability to be
able to mark exam dictated from the Workmode (without displaying exam). Otherwise,
exams will not be marked dictated on the worklist (i.e. without displaying the exam). For
marking zero image exams dictated from the Extend integration, this property should be
set to true. Contact your GE/PACS administrator to configure your system.

13-4-2: Looping Through Multiple Exams

Looping through multiple exams allows you to dictate one by one from a selection of
exams from a Worklist, all opened at the same time. The next exam button (or Alt-n) is
used to go to the next exam. The difference between looping through exams workflow
and normal Browse Mode workflow is that while looping, you can select multiple exams,
using the ctrl or shift keys, open them all at the same time by any of the normal methods of
opening an exam (except by double clicking since you have multiple exams selected in
the Worklist), and then loop through exams similar to the Dictate Macro workflow.

Note:

Looping through open exams will not automatically take you to the next exam the way
the Dictate Macro does. You must manually change to next exam, either by:

pressing Alt-N or clicking the "Next Exam" button.

or

selecting the next exam from the opened exams menu in the function bar.

If the Loop Through Opened Exams and Skip Dictated Exams preferences are both
checked.
To set the "Loop Through Opened Exams" preference, see Loop Through Opened Exams.
To set the "Skip Dictated Exams" preference, see Skip Dictated Exams.

Note:

2031481-001 Rev 3

When you reach the end of the list, but the list still contains non-dictated exams, you
will loop through the remaining undictated exams until all exams are dictated.

79

Chapter 6

PowerScribe
If only the Loop Through Opened Exams preference is checked, you will continue to loop
through the list of exams selected on original loop through list until you either close all
exams or until you open a new exam from Worklist, not part of the original loop through
list.
Once all the opened exams have been dictated, a dialog box displays stating, All Exams
Have Been Dictated. You can now select Close All Opened Exams under the Function
Bar Drop Down menu and open the next set of exams you want to dictate.

13-4-3: Linked Exams/One Report for All

Sometimes it is helpful to be able to dictate a single report and link this report to more than
one exam. A common scenario to use this would be a chest/abdomen/pelvis exam, where
there are three exams in Centricity Workstation, but they are really a single exam from the
patient perspective. The Extend PowerScribe Linked Exams feature (One Report for All
option) allows a report in PowerScribe to be created with the accession numbers from all
of the linked exams and will automatically mark all of the exams dictated in Centricity
Workstation just as it would for a single-exam report.
The One Report for All option allows the user to dictate a single report for a patient with
multiple exams. Once the report has been dictated, it is applied to all of the selected
patient exams.
When selecting exams, the following requirements must be met in order to enable the
feature:

More than one exam must be selected from the Centricity Workstation work list.

All of the selected exams must be from the same patient.

Each selected exam must have a valid accession number.

Exam must not already have a report in PowerScribe

When selecting the patient exams, the status cannot be:

a scheduled exam

a non-completed exam

an exam that already has report

an exam that is scheduled and already has a report

When all of these conditions are met, selecting the One Report for All option will open
the PowerScribe application. Any dictation or notes entered in PowerScribe are applied to
all of the selected exams.

Note:

2031481-001 Rev 3

The One Report for All menu item will only be enabled when all the conditions (as
specified) are enabled. Otherwise, it will be disabled. Note that you can only created
a report for linked exam in the Browse Workmode palette. Before displaying the
exams for dictation, you should link the exam to create a report on PowerScribe.

13-4-4: Writing a Report for Multiple Exams

1. In the Centricity Workstation Work Modes palette, select a patient with multiple
exams.

Note:

For the linking of exams workflow, the Autosynch user preference should be
turned off. Otherwise, you will need to select the exams, then select One Report
For All and start dictating the report before opening the exams.

2. Select the exams you wish to create a single report for. The exam selections must
meet the requirements mentioned above.
3. Click on the Show button in the Work Modes palette.
4. Select the One Report for All option.
The PowerScribe application is opened. You can now dictate and create one report for
all of the selected exams.

Note:

Workflows for linked exams typically fall under two types:

All images in single exam and other exams have zero images, (for example,
Chest, Abdomen, and Pelvis) you view all images in a single exam while dictating.

Each exam has images Knee, angle, foot You view the first set of images and
you dictate then you open second exam and you review and dictate the second
set of images. The third exam with images follows the same workflow as the first
and second exam readings.

13-5: Creating Reports

13-5-1: Creating Reports with the Dictate Macro
The Dictate Macro provides the user with the most efficient workflow design, but it is less
flexible than the Browse Mode.
1. From the Dictate Macro, select a Worklist and open an exam. While PowerScribe is
hidden in the background, PowerScribe synchronizes automatically with the exam
opened.
2. Start dictating the exam by pressing the Dictate button on the Microphone.

Note:

When the red light is visible on the microphone, the dictation session is active and
the microphone is recording the user's interpretation.

3. Once dictation is complete, there are two ways to complete the dictation process:
Press the Stop/Play button and then the End dictation button (function A or B
button, depending on users left- or right-hand PowerScribe preference settings).
or
Press the End dictation button.

81

Chapter 6

PowerScribe
The PowerScribe window displays with the transcribed text.
The default behavior when dictation is ended is that the Report will be saved and the next
exam on Worklist will open and be available for interpretation.

Note:

When the End dictation button is depressed, dictation is automatically saved and
the "save button is now grayed out.

Note:

When you click the Next Exam button in the upper right corner of the screen, (or,
when you press the "End" dictation button, depending on your site's settings,
contact your PACS administrator), the system automatically does the following:

Close the open exam

Mark the exam Dictated

Open the next exam on the Worklist available for interpretation.

Note:

If you are using the Dictate Macro but you want to review another exam from a
Worklist in Browse Mode, complete the following steps:

Press the End dictation button to transcribe the partial report. If you do not
perform this step, PowerScribe will prompt you to save the text.

Proceed to Browse Mode to view (and if desired, possibly dictate) on another

exam.

You can also return to the Dictate Macro, where the exam is still opened and to
complete the interpretation.
When requisition driven workflow is interrupted in the Dictate Macro:
If you open an exam and begin dictation, and you are interrupted and you need to go back
to the Worklist and open another patient exam, you should complete the following steps:
1. Leave the dictation open in Dictate Macro, or finish the dictation and let the dictate
macro take you to the next exam.
2. Go to Browse Mode and view exams. If you dictate, you can save or delete the
Dictate Macro report that is open in Centricity Workstation. If there is content to be
saved, save it. If the dictate macro just took you to that exam and you havent started
your dictation yet, delete it. In this workflow method, where you are using the dictate
macro for normal workflow, auto synch should be off in browse mode. If you are in the
middle of a dictation and dont want to dictate in browse mode during your interruption,
when you return to dictate macro, PowerScribe will still be synched with the exam you
were on before the interruption.
3. Go back to the Dictate Macro and resume dictating.

13-5-2: Creating Reports in Browse Mode

Worklists for exams to be interpreted can be assigned to the Browse mode. The Browse
mode offers some flexibility for moving between the various Worklists within PACS.
1. Open any Unread Exam in Centricity Workstation from the Worklist in the Browse
Mode. PowerScribe can be set to automatically synchronize with the correct result
dictation (PowerScribe) window.

Note:

When the red light is visible on the microphone, the dictation session is active and
the microphone is recording your interpretation.

2. Interpret images by pressing the Dictate button on the microphone and speaking the
interpretation. During the dictation, process the PowerScribe application is running in
the background.
3. At the end of the interpretation, press the Stop Dictation button on the microphone to
review transcribed text, self edit the text or Approve the result.

Note:

When the End dictation button is pressed, dictation is automatically saved and
the "save button is now grayed-out.

Default Behavior: Centricity RA1000 will mark the exam Dictated as soon as the Stop
Dictation button has been selected on the microphone. (Via an Extend property).
Centricity RA1000 can also be configured to mark exams dictated in Centricity
Workstation when the report has been signed off.
Selecting the Sign button in the PowerScribe window sends the result to the RIS. The
RIS will send a signed copy of the report and update the exam status in PACS to
Completed on the Centricity RA1000 Worklist (an exam with an Approved result).
When requisition driven workflow is interrupted in the Browse Mode:
If you open an exam and begin dictation, and you are then interrupted and need to go
back to the Worklist and open another patient exam, you should complete the following
steps:
1. Before going to the Worklist, press the Display Dictation (Transcribe) microphone
Function button and save dictation. If you forgets to save dictation, you should receive
a prompt asking to save the dictation.
2. Go to the Worklist and select and open the other patient exam.
3. You can go back to the original exam and complete the interpretation.

13-5-3: Resident Workflow

Residents may have responsibility to dictate exams, but typically residents do not have the
privileges to sign off reports without an attending physician reviewer.

Note:

When you log into Centricity Workstation, you will be prompted to select your
attending radiologist. If you do not select an attending radiologist from the list, the
reports will default to the queue of the first attending radiologist on the list.
1. Press Start Dictation on the Microphone and begin dictation.

queue, click Save in the PowerScribe window, or select from Save from the
PowerScribe File menu and the result is left in the residents queue and the exam
status updates to "dictated.

3. Edit the text in the PowerScribe window until it matches the desired report then
approve the report.

13-6: Editing Reports

13-6-1: Editing Dictated Text
To edit your recorded dictation:
1. Use the Rewind/Forward or Stop/Play buttons on the microphone.
2. Use the Dictate button to begin dictation over the original voice file.

To edit results using voice commands while in self edit:

1. Open the exam in Centricity Workstation, manually synchronizing the exam with
PowerScribe.
2. Click into the point of the report where editing is to be started.
3. Say Select" and the word you want to correct, change or edit. For example: Select
fracture results in the word fracture being highlighted. Once this occurs, then say into
the microphone the words you desire inserted in the text. The highlighted word is
replaced with the newly dictated text.
4. To remove words, highlight the text, press the Dictate button and say, Scratch that.
5. When you are done editing the voice file for the words to be transcribed, click the
Transcribe button.
6. You may also edit the report using the keyboard, as in a word processing application.

Inserting your PowerScribe macros:

Every user can create their own individual Macros for exam results. Once macros have
been created for the user on the Dictaphone server, the user can call up the Macro by

13-6-2: Creating a Report Addendum

When the interpreting physician signs off a report in the PowerScribe application, the
report is sent to the RIS and it generates a message to the PACS system that changes the
exam status to Completed in PACS.
However, there are times when the dictating physician (or others with the appropriate
privileges) can choose to add an addendum to a report. In order to perform this task,
complete the following steps:
1. Open an exam in the Centricity Workstation in the Browse Mode (the exam could be in
either Dictated or Completed status in workstation depending on the timeliness of the
RIS sending the approved report to the PACS).

Note:

If the autosynch user preference is not on, you must synchronize PowerScribe
manually with the open exam.

2. After the exam has been synched, a dialog box opens, prompting you to create an
addendum.
3. Press the Dictate button and dictate as normal using the PowerScribe application to
create the addendum.
4. Press the End Dictation button on the microphone and the transcribed addendum will
be visible in the PowerScribe window. Review the text, make edits if necessary, and
sign the report.

Note:

Prior to the report being signed, the dictation can only be edited by the user who
has the report in their PowerScribe queue. Only when the report has been signed
can an addendum be created.

Once the report is signed off, if you synchronize PowerScribe with Centricity Workstation
(either automatically upon display image or manually by clicking the Launch PowerScribe
button, Extend prompts you to create addendum with Yes/No option. If you click "Yes, a
new addendum will be created for the exam. If you click "No," no addendum or report will
be created or opened.

13-7: Signing Reports

Typically the interpreting physician signs off on a report in the PowerScribe application
immediately after dictating it.
However, there are times when the dictating physician (or others with the appropriate
privileges) will not be able to sign off on the report until a later time. This is normally the
case when PowerScribe work types other than self-edit are used (i.e. send to editor or
digital dictation.)
When the reports do become available for signoff, they appear in the PowerScribe report
viewer queue of the author or the authors designee. In this case, the Extend PowerScribe
user should sign off the reports from their queue.

13-7-1: Allow Batch Signing Reports

Prior to Centricity Workstation Release 2.1.2.1, batched report signoffs involved running
PowerScribe in standalone mode (without Centrcity Workstation running). Each signoff
ended with manually closing a PowerScribe dialog box and re-showing the PowerScribe
application.
In Centricity Workstation Release 2.1.2.1 and later, a new user preference, "Allow Batch
Signing Reports" is available to streamline report signoffs. This preference is in Utilities >
Extend PowerScribe User Preferences.

When the Allow Batch Signing Reports user preference is checked, behavior is as
follows:

Users can open reports from their PowerScribe report queues and sign them.

The PowerScribe application will not hide.

Users will not get the out of context dialog.

When the Allow Batch Signing Reports user preference is unchecked, behavior is
as follows:
If, when signing reports:

the reports are signed off from the users queue without synching the exam in
Centricity Workstation (which must be done manually as there is no command to
make Centricity Workstation open the exam associated with the open report in
PowerScribe) and

the signed off report is not the active, open exam in Centricity Workstation

users will get out of synch dialogs when signing off each report.

Note:

Default setting for this user preference is unchecked. Setting is applicable for the
current session only, and the preference reverts to the default setting after logout.

Note:

Depending on configuration (contact your PACS administrator for what setting is used
at your site), Exams may get marked dictated in Centricity Workstation when you sign
the report.

Section 14: Configuring PowerScribe

14-1: Extend Properties
14-1-1: Basic Extend Properties
Once you have established which workflow scenario(s) you want to follow, the site must
determine what (if any) changes to make to the Extend Properties on each Extend
PowerScribe workstation.
While PowerScribe User Preferences apply only to a user and apply regardless of
which workstation the user logs onto, Extend Properties affect one workstation
only, and the Extend Properties affect all users who log in to Extend PowerScribe
on that workstation.
For a list of other applicable Extend Properties and descriptions, please consult the
Extend PowerScribe Service Manual.

14-2: PowerScribe User Preferences

14-2-1: Accessing the PowerScribe Preferences Tab
Once you have established which workflow scenario(s) you want to follow (see Workflows
Overview), each user will need to select their user preferences.

Note:

These preferences stay with a user regardless of the workstation they have logged in
to, as long as the workstations are all connected to the same PACS.
To access the PowerScribe preferences settings, do the following:
1. Click the Utilities button (located at the bottom of any screen in the Workstation Task
bar)
or
Right-click in the dark gray area of the Workstation Function Bar at the top of any
screen and click Utilities.
2. Click the PowerScribe User Preferences tab.

Note:

To respond effectively to user questions and provide ongoing user support, System
Administrators may want to document individual user preferences.

14-2-2: Automatically Synchronize on Display Images

The Automatically Synchronize on Display Images preferences allows the Centricity
Workstation and PowerScribe to synchronize opened exams. When an exam is displayed
in Centricity Workstation and then PowerScribe is launched, the displayed exam is
automatically synchronized in PowerScribe. This prevents the user from mistakenly
viewing and dictating the wrong exam.
When the Centricity Workstation and PowerScribe are synchronized, the user can open
any exam from the Centricity Workstation. This gives the user the ability to pre-load
exams. When the report is signed in PowerScribe, the synchronized exam will be marked
dictated in Centricity Workstation and the next exam in the list will be loaded in both
applications..
When you break the synchronization (breaking the synchronization means you manually
open a different report on PowerScribe), the synchronized exam will then be set to the
current exam.
If you sign a report on PowerScribe and the Exam ID for that report is not the same as the
synchronized exam on the Centricity Workstation, the user will see a message box stating
that the system is not synchronized. This message box will also show the synchronized
Exam ID and the Exam ID for the report on PowerScribe that was just signed

Guidelines for Setting the "Automatically Synchronize on Display Images"

Preference
1. If you are using Browse mode for your normal workflow, the "Automatically
Syncrhonize on Display Images" preference should be on (box checked). In Browse
mode, when this preference is on, PowerScribe automatically synchronizes with the
exam opened in Centricity Workstation.
2. If you are using the Dictate macro for your primary workflow and you want to use
Browse mode for interruptions, (without breaking your Dictate macro session), the
"Automatically Synchronize on Display Images" preference should be off (box
unchecked).

Note:

However, in Browse mode, if the "Automatically Synchronize on Display Images"

preference is off, you must manually synchronize PowerScribe whenever
dictating an exam in Centricity Workstation by accessing the Exam Functions
drop-down menu and selecting Launch PowerScribe/Sync Report (or use the
PowerScribe button/menu in the Work Modes palette).

3. In the Dictate macro, synchronization occurs even if the "Automatically Synchronize

on Display Images" preference is off (box unchecked).

The change is automatically saved.

14-2-3: Loop Through Opened Exams

The Loop Through Opened Exams option enables the user to loop through a list of
opened exams.
Looping involves sequentially advancing through a list of opened exams. Once the user
reaches the bottom of the list, the next exam to be opened is the exam at the top of the
list.
You can advance to the next opened exam by ending a dictation of an exam or by clicking
on the Next Exam button in the Centricity Workstation Function Bar.

Setting the "Loop Through Opened Exams" Preference

1. In the Centricity Workstation, display the Utilities palette.
2. Click on the PowerScribe Preferences tab.
The PowerScribe preferences display in the Utilities palette window.
3. Select the Loop Through Opened Exams check box.
The change is automatically saved.
Associated with turning on the "Loop Through Opened Exams preference, there is an
image preloading functionality. This feature is useful if the system is configured to mark
dictated when sign off report. Contact your GE/PACS administrator about what
configuration is set up on your system.
To use this functionality, the following user preferences must be set:

Caution:

Loop through Exams must be turned on

Auto synchronize on display exam must be turned off.

You will need to manually synchronize PowerScribe with the displayed exam.
Once you are done dictating the first exam, say Exam A, press the next button
to go to the next exam, say Exam B, while you can still modify or finalize the
report and sign it off. Exam A will be marked dictated automatically by Extend.
You can then manually synchronize PowerScribe with Exam B by pressing the
"Launch Powerscribe.. button and you can continue.

The Extend PowerScribe integration is designed for the Self Edit work type setting on
PowerScribe. Doctors make use of the voice recognition capability provided by
PowerScribe to complete the report themselves without the need for transcriptionists.
Since this is how this integration is designed, it may not work well with other workflows
(such as the Send to Editor Work Type (Transcriptionist)).

15-2: Send to Editor Work Type (Transcriptionist)

The Send to Editor work type sends both report audio and text to transcriptionist, who
edits the users report text by listening to users audio and making corrections where
needed.

Overview
OrthoView Overview
The OrthoView application, orthopedic templating software from Meridian Techniques
(MTL), is primarily used for orthopedic surgery planning purposes. The Extend OrthoView
integration allows orthopedic surgeons to access pre-surgical templating software from
the Centricity workstation. This solution is critical for hospitals to adapt a filmless workflow
as opposed to the traditional orthopedic workflow where surgeons had to print films for
prosthetic templating.
Extend OrthoView Integration provides one Windows-based terminal for orthopedic
surgeons where Centricity Workstation and OrthoView clients share a common log-in and
patient context while integration at the system level exists.
Extend OrthoView integration adds an additional menu selection under the Image
Functions menu. Successfully logging into Centricity automatically logs in and
authenticates the OrthoView application. When you logout of Centricity, you are also
logged out of the OrthoView application.
For specific information about OrthoView functionality, warnings or any other
precautionary information refer to the OrthoView Online Help available within the
OrthoView application.

Note:

Section 2:

Any exam with a saved OrthoView template will not be able to use the Show as
Acquired functionality of the Centricity Workstation.

Specifications
Image
The OrthoView application supports orthopedic templating on CR and DX images. If you
start the OrthoView integration for an image from another modality, an error message will
display. The series must also contain at maximum 5 images.
The images within the active region of the Centricity Workstation are transferred as
acquired with no image manipulation to the OrthoView application when the Extend
OrthoView integration is used.

Caution:

2-1-2:

Automatic synchronization between Centricity and OrthoView only occurs

when you select OrthoView from the Image Functions menu within Centricity
Workstation.

Monitor
OrthoView currently only supports displays on low resolution color monitor configurations
for 1C or 2C.

2-1-3:

Patient Context
Extend OrthoView transfers the Patient ID from the Centricity Workstation to the
OrthoView application. Therefore the Patient ID displayed within OrthoView reflects the
complete Patient ID as found within the Centricity Workstation.

2-2-1:

Orthopedic Templates
Overview
To use OrthoView for planning orthopedic procedures you must obtain and install
Templates for the prostheses used in surgery. Templates are valid for a period of up to six
months, after which time they expire and need to be updated with the latest versions.
For more information on using templates, refer to the OrthoView online help and service
documentation.
