Effects of Technology in Flight Simulation

Background Information
A. What is simulation?
Airplanes have a big importance in our daily lives, this is what we call transportation,
like many other types of transportation for example: cars, trains, boats and many others,
but the only difference is the way of transportation; so airplanes would be considered as a
way of air transportation. Simulation and its creators have gained a big importance since
the availability of this invention; this has created in making the pilots to get interested, in
these types of programs, because this can create the pilot, in how to manage a problem
and also getting better in their abilities of flying a plane. Simulations; are abstractions of
reality, often they deliberately emphasize one part of reality at the expense of other parts
or sometimes it's done to focus your attention on an important aspect of the simulation.

Simulation can be applied in many critical areas and enables one to address issues
before these issues become problems. Simulation is more than just a technology, as it
forces one think in global terms, about system behavior, and about the fact that systems
are more than the sum of their components. Technology has a big importance in the
development of Simulation, with representation of reality, high definition, also another
important aspect is the complexity on the management of the tools, this can create the
pilots, or special people to manage the simulation in a very easy way, and not having
problems with it.

B. Why flight simulation?

In the airports, they have many airplanes from different companies or also from
military or civilian aircrafts, there are a lot of reasons of using the flight simulation, many
people have different comments or ideas of this question, but the real reason of using flight
simulator instead of using a real airplane its because:
1.- Production Cost
When we talk about, aircraft, we can identify them by different characteristics,
most of the aircrafts are characterized as civilian and modern military aircrafts. It is
checked that this types of aircrafts are very expensive to build, by many reasons;
updated navigation system, communication system, new engines, safety systems,
and many other things, it is obligatory to have mainly this parts in the plane, so it can
be safe to fly it and with any problem; and by these we can observe that this makes a
big amount of money to spent on. In production cost, we can also considerate flight
simulator, it is one of the most effective ways for training pilots, and also the reason
that the trainer or pilot can operate this aircraft, by simulation and not having any
problems.
2.- Cost of Human Lives
Taking into consideration the human lives, can be one of the most important
aspects when flying an airplane, we know that most of the humans, travel by plane,
by many different reasons; business, tour, vacations, etc When flying a civilian
aircraft, as mention before is an aircraft were people can travel. Most of the times
when a company of airlines hire a pilot, and they train him, no matter how many
years of experience he or she has, the pilots are always consider as trainees, this
means that, they do not have the complete experience in flying an airplane, by a

very easy fact, airplanes always are going to have mechanical problems, so in a few
seconds something can happen; saying this it can be a high probability that they can
crash or damage the aircraft, and taking this into consideration their lives, and also
the lives of the passengers, or general. By this, we can clarify that Flight
Simulation, can reduce in having this types of accidents and training the pilots in the
correct way.
3.- Importance of Simulation Technology
Modern technology can be considered a direct consequence of the innovations
and studies in the fields of science and engineering. There is no doubt that technology
has greatly influenced modern society and lifestyles. While most of these influences
have

been

positive,

there

are

few

negative

one.

Taking in consideration the technology, can be clarify by many factors,
technology has been increasing very fast in different areas, in this research we take
into consideration technology very important, because this manage everything. Talking
about this topic, we can clarify that most of the personal object that we have are related
with technology, making or creating a better ideas. Virtual reality is like an advanced
computer game. Through computer technology, you can see a three-dimensional
image, and feel like you are there. You wear goggles and hold a controller in your hand.
When you move your head, the image that you see moves. You can control where you
go and what you do. Although it hasn't been used widely for entertainment yet, it is
used regularly for training personnel in the space program and the armed forces.
Although what you see looks like reality, in truth, it is virtual reality. (teenink.com)
Through this information we can clarify that virtual simulation, it is increasing in
technology, because nowadays we have simulation in everything, and it is very

important to take in consideration that important point, flight simulation has relationship
with other new simulations, they into consideration health simulation, and this idea was
based from the flight simulator.
C. Types of Simulation
1. Live: Simulation involving real people operating real systems

Involve individuals or groups

May use actual equipment

Should provide a similar area of operations

Should be close to replicating the actual activity

2. Virtual: Simulation involving real people operating simulated systems.

Motor control skills (e.g., flying an airplane)

Decision skills (e.g., committing fire control resources to action)

Communication skills (e.g., members of a C4I team)

3. Constructive: Simulation involving simulated people operating simulated
systems. Real people can stimulate (make inputs) but are not involved in
determining outcomes. Constructive simulations offer the ability to:

Analyze concepts

Predict possible outcomes

Stress large organizations

Make measurements

Generate statistics

Perform analysis

Flight Simulation or Simulation has a big importance in our lives we can say that
this type of programs are used by special persons, because the main point of this
simulation is to make someone, to practice in this types of simulation, so they can
get better in their abilities, it doesnt matter what type of simulation we use, the
main point is to create something better with just practicing and not causing any
damages in real life.
