Conplast R

constructive solutions

Retarding water reducing admixture

Uses

Compatibility

To increase the workability and/or strength of concrete of a

given cement content whilst increasing its initial and final
setting time.

Conplast R is generally compatible with other Fosroc

admixtures but it is recommended that all admixtures be
added to concrete separately. Conplast R can be used with
all types of Portland cements. Use of Type V/SRC cement
will increase the retardation relative to dose. For advice on
special cements consult the technical department.

To facilitate production of high quality concrete of improved

durability and water tightness.
Advantages

Permeability

Set retardation allows extra placing time for larger pours.

Increased workability facilitates placing and compaction.

Improved workability facilitates placing and compaction.

Reduced water:cement ratio increases density and makes
the concrete more waterproof.

reduction in workability.

Set retardation controls stiffening time of concrete in hot

weather.

Initial and final set times will be related to cement type and
ambient temperature.

constant water cement.

Description
Conplast R is supplied as a brown chloride free liquid,
based on a hydroxycarboxylic acid derivative, which
instantly disperses in water.
When added to concrete mixes Conplast R causes the
cement particles to disperse more fully exposing a larger
surface area and enabling the water content to perform,
more efficiently. This effect can be used to improve
workability, to increase ultimate strengths, or to facilitate a
reduction in the cement content.
The retarding properties of Conplast R can also be
beneficial in concrete where high cement content or high
temperatures are involved.
Cold joints in continuous
concrete pours may be avoided and the use of lower
cement content mixes will reduce heat of hydration.
Conplast R is particularly suitable for cohesive and cement
rich mixes. For lean mixes and mixes which are prone to
segregation Conplast RP624 may prove to be more
suitable.
Standards
Conplast R complies with BS 5075 Part 1 and with ASTM
C494, Type D.

Instruction for use

Dosages
The dosage of Conplast R normally varies between 0.3 to
0.6 litres per 100 kg cement, depending on the retardation
required. See Figure 1 for guide. Site trial must be carried
out to establish the precise dosage level required.
Dispensing
The correct quantity of Conplast R should be measured by
means of a recommended dispenser. The companys
technical department should be consulted regarding suitable
equipment and its installation. The measured quantity of

Conplast R should be added directly to the mixer and

bestresults are obtained if added at the same times as the
mixing water.
Curing
It is essential to prevent concrete, which has been retarded
from drying out. Normal curing methods such as water
spray, wet hessian or a Concure curing membrane should
be used.
Cleaning: Spillages of Conplast R can be removed with
water.

the temperature is kept within the range 2 C to 50 C. If this
temperature is exceeded in any respect advice should be
sought from the supplier.
Packaging
Conplast R is supplied in 25 and 210 litre drums. Also in
tanker loads. For larger users storage tanks and dispensing
equipment can be supplied.

Overdosing

Contact your local Fosroc office or representative.

An overdose of Conplast R will result in increased

retardation. Double dosing of maximum recommended
dose will result in a retardation of several days. The
ultimate strength will not be impaired if concrete is properly
cured. It should also if possible be re-vibrated just before
initial set.

Technical service
The company provides a technical advisory service for on
site assistance and for advice on evaluation trials and
dispensing equipment.

Precautions
Additional information

Health and safety

Conplast R is slightly toxic. Do not ingest. It is mildly
alkaline. Avoid prolonged contact with the skin. Splashes
to the skin should be washed with water. Splashes to eyes
should immediately be flushed with clean water and medical
advice should be sought.

Technical data and guidance can be provided on a wide

range of admixtures and concreting aids, including
accelerators, retarders, air entraining agents, waterproofers,
mould release agents, surface retarders and repair
materials.

Fire
Conplast R is non-flammable.
