standards package of CEN/TC 227/WG 1, which was resolved by Resolution 92 (Document CEN/TC 227
N 577). This Standards package of CEN/TC 227 Road materials contains the following series of standards:

EN 12697, Bituminous mixtures Test methods for hot mix asphalt (all parts)

EN 13108, Bituminous mixtures Material specification (all parts)

The European Standards for bituminous mixtures, series EN 13108, are being implemented in Austria by the
series NORM B 3580. A comparison of these series of standards can be found in Table 1.
NORM EN 13108-2 shall be applied jointly with NORM B 3581.

NORM DRAFT

Foreword
This document (prEN 13108-2:2013) has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 227 Road
materials, the secretariat of which is held by DIN.
This document is currently submitted to the CEN Enquiry.
This document will supersede EN 13108-2:2006.
This document has been prepared under a mandate given to CEN by the European Commission and the
European Free Trade Association, and supports essential requirements of EU Directive(s).
For relationship with EU Directive(s), see informative Annex ZA which is an integral part of this document.
This European Standard is one of a series of standards as listed below:
prEN 13108-1, Bituminous mixtures Material specifications Part 1: Asphalt Concrete
prEN 13108-2, Bituminous mixtures Material specifications Part 2: Very Thin Layer Asphalt Concrete

prEN 13108-20, Bituminous mixtures Material specifications Part 20: Type Testing
prEN 13108-21, Bituminous mixtures Material specifications Part 21: Factory Production Control
Annex A (normative) details the calculation of the penetration or the softening point in mixtures containing
reclaimed asphalt from the penetrations or softening points of the added binder and the recovered binder from
the reclaimed asphalt.

AS+ Shop 20.03.2015

Annex B (informative) gives information on the use of the proposed test-method for friction after polishing.
NOTE
Standards for mix groups utilizing cutback bitumen or bitumen emulsion and for materials based on in situ
recycling will be considered by CEN/TC 227 when the hot mix asphalt standards have been completed.

NORM DRAFT

prEN 13108-2:2013 (E)

Introduction
The ultimate aim is to specify bituminous mixtures on a performance level. For Asphalt Concretes for Very
Thin Layers (BBTM) besides traditional (empirical) tests more tests are available with a more direct relation to
the performance in the road. Although more tests are available to provide information on the performance of
the material, they are still insufficient to cover the actual performance of the material in the road. Attention
should be paid to possible conflicting specifications.

AS+ Shop 20.03.2015

Asphalt Concrete for Very Thin Layer (BBTM) is used for surface courses with a thickness of 20 mm to
30 mm.

NORM DRAFT

Scope

This European Standard specifies requirements for mixtures of the mix group very Thin Layer Asphalt
Concrete for use on roads, airfields and other trafficked areas.
This European Standard includes requirements for the selection of the constituent materials. It is designed to
be read in conjunction with prEN 13108-20 and prEN 13108-21.
