Article Review
The Daily Mail (January 23rd 2014) reports shocking news on abuse, neglect of an
elderly domiciliary care patient. Pensioner catches care worker stealing cash from
her purse - on a camera she installed to find out why her money kept disappearing.
The Secret camera showed Nadia Summers, 24, stashing money in her bra.
Housebound Lynette Nardone, 64 , was convinced she was being robbed. She
reported her suspicion to her family after the care home she is registered with
reported they was no way care worker(Nadia) was stealing from her.
The family installed 1,000 CCTV system used to convict care worker thief. Mrs
Lynette Nardone is house bound and suffers from a rare debilitating neurodegenerative disease. Nasia was then caught on camera a further two times stealing
20 notes from the vulnerable patient's purse.
In court Mrs Lynette reports the following: She said: 'Nadia's actions have cost me so
much more than just 60 from my purse or 1,000 for cameras.
'She has taken away what little trust and faith I had left. It has been hard for me to
accept that I need help, and allowing strangers into my home as carers has been yet
another challenge.
'I felt helpless to accuse the people who care for me, fearing a 'my word against
theirs' situation.
'I was frightened to upset them in case they took it out on me. I depend on people.
'I hope Nadia can never again cause any other vulnerable person the distress and
heartache that she has caused me.
'Nobody deserves to feel like a victim in their own home at a time when what they
need and deserve the most is support and care and dignity.'

Guidelines for Report writing

Plagiarism / Collusion
Plagiarism and Collusion
Any act of plagiarism and collusion will be seriously dealt with according to the
regulations. In this context the definition and scope of plagiarism are presented
below:
Plagiarism occurs when a student misrepresents, as his/her own work, the work,
written or otherwise, of any other person (including another student) or of any
institution. Examples of forms of plagiarism include 1:
the verbatim (word for word) copying of anothers work without appropriate and
correctly presented acknowledgement;

the close paraphrasing of anothers work by simply changing a few words or

altering the order of presentation, without appropriate and correctly presented
acknowledgement;
unacknowledged quotation of phrases from anothers work;
The deliberate and detailed presentation of anothers concept as ones own.
All types of work submitted by students are covered by this definition, including,
written work, diagrams, designs, engineering drawings and pictures.
Collusion occurs when, unless with official approval (e.g. in the case of group
projects), two or more students consciously collaborate in the preparation and
production of work which is ultimately submitted by each in an identical, or
substantially similar, form and/or is represented by each to be the product of his or
her individual efforts. Collusion also occurs where there is unauthorised cooperation between a student and another person in the preparation and production
of work which is presented as the students own. (ibid)
Extension and Late Submission
If an extension is necessary for a valid reason, requests can me made using a
course work extension request form available from the college. Please note that
the lecturers do not have the authority to extend the coursework deadlines and
therefore do not ask them to award a coursework extension.
