Jess Vilches
Jess Barona Vilches (Crdoba, Spain, Christmas Eve, 1976) usually signs his work as Jess Vilches, J. Vilches
or just Vilches, as he is generally known. Occasionally, he uses the pseudonym Hatter.
An early love for literature led him to study dramatic arts, he flirted with theatre and radio before being claimed
by his vocation to study and start a career as a historian and teacher.
For over a decade, he has focused his literary efforts in creating the universe of La Flor de Jade, a five-novel epic
saga. He was given the prize Autor Revelacin en Literatura Fantstica in the V Saln del Cmic in Mlaga for
the first book in the series, El Enviado. One year later, the second volume El Crculo se Abre, was published.
He moved to Madrid, where he now lives, and befriended Javier Charro, the cover illustrator of his two novels.
Between them the idea of expanding the universe of Flor de Jade began to take shape. Without delay, they
embarked on a project to adapt the saga to e-book format and the third volume, El Libro de los Herederos,
was specifically created for digital media.
It was in Madrid, too, where he joined the team of the prestigious illustrator Lus Royo. Friends since they met
at the National Comic Fair 2009, Royo knew about his work and offered him to write a series of novels for his
macroproject Malefic Time in which he is currently involved with his son Rmulo Royo. His conception of
literature and narrative quality are decisive for such a multipolar, multidisciplinary and universal project. Codex
Apocalypse, the novelisation of the first part of Malefic Time set in New York- is launched at the Saln del
Cmic 2012, in Barcelona.
He became increasingly disillusioned with the arrogance and abusive contractual conditions of the traditional
publishing companies. As a result, he decided to cancel the publication of his books on paper and focus on
the e-book project online. He plunged into this ocean together with Javier Charro and there they are, still submerged, exploring the endless range of possibilities electronic publishing allows.
By the end of 2012, he announces that version 2.0 of all his published material will be reissued and will not just
include a new layout aesthetics but also much more additional material, such as extras, downloadable soundtrack, hidden secrets and other innovations.
He also continues working on his literary series Irene: Luz y Destino.
His collection of poems (Latidos, Madrugadas, Espinas y Silencios), available online, publicly bears witness to
his role as a poet.

Javier Charro
Javier Charro Martnez was born in Len in 1980 and moved to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria when he was but
months old. His father, who had been a painter in his youth, passed on his enthusiasm for art to his son. Javier
and his brother shared their hobby and spent hours painting influenced by fantastic art and American comics.
After collaborating in an animated short film in 2003, he starts publishing illustrations for role-playing games.
From then on, he combines his career in architecture with his work as a freelance illustrator.
In 2006, he moves to Madrid where he works as a creative architect in the well-known Spanish studio A-cero
while he continues with his career as an illustrator. In the summer 2010, he decides to concentrate on illustration, starting new projects and accepting more orders.
During these last years he has published hundreds of illustrations in different media, such as novel covers,
mobile games, role-playing games and miniatures, sets of cards, magazines, etc. Lately, he is also in charge
of drawing and colouring the comic of the popular game Blood and Glory: Legend, embarking, thus, upon
graphic narrative, too.
Many have entrusted him with the images of their products, his clients include Fantasy Flight Games, Dream
Pod 9, Glu Mobile Inc., Cryptozoic, Mongoose Publishing, Hero Games, Team Jabberwocky, Crafty Games,
Moon Design Publications, Holocubierta, Mundos picos and Editorial Sombra among others. In 2011, the
prestigious Ballistic Publishing selects two of his works among those of world-class illustrators for EXOTIQUE 7 and two of his pictures became part of the 2012 S-Artbook (Spanish Art Compilation), which compiles the best national illustrations.
His association with the writer Jess B. Vilches in 2010 was a turning point in his career as it led from work
made to order to creative initiative. Their first common venture was Alwnn, Soul&Sword, an illustrated
story based on the characters of the saga Flor de Jade, written by Jess B. Vilches. This project will go on sale
in Spanish and English in the main digital platforms. It strays from the usual layout of this kind of books,
proposing a different narrative rhythm and a vast range of extra contents among which you can find sketches
and illustration processes. Following this project Vilches&Charro consolidated their alliance and took their
partnership beyond the illustrated book. They have now published three of the five novels of the saga La Flor
de Jade and a new series of novels Irene available in Amazon. They have also started an illustrated adventure
narrative online, where readers determine the course of events called La Flor de Jade: Choose your destiny.
After Alwnn Soul&Sword, this couple of independent authors, Vilches &Charro, promises (or threatens
you choose-) to provide their readers and audience a catalogue full of products which will surely redefine the
traditional link between illustrators and writers.
