Definition of Cultural Concepts in Cultural Studies ( Cultural Studies )

The study of other disciplines has been first to define the term culture ( culture )
are included in their concept of the humanities and social disciplines, like
anthropology, sociology, politics, economics and so on. Koentjaraningrat defined
the culture as a system of ideas, actions and work within the framework of
human society to be owned by people with self-learning (Koentjaraningrat, 1990:
180). And, James Spradley seems almost agree with Koentjaraningrat. He said
that culture is a system of human knowledge gained through the learning
process, which they then use to interpret the world around them, as well as to
strategize about the behavior in the face of the world.
More specifically, in terms of discipline and Cultural Studies ( Cultural Studies )
presents a critical form of culture that leads to the definition of " the complex
everyday world we all Encounter and move through Which all "(Edgar, 1999:
102). Culture is a broad process of human daily life in the general scale, ranging
from action to ways of thinking, the concept of culture as described by
Kluckhohn. This sense is also supported by the Clifford Geertz, culture is defined
a set of rules, recipes, articles and the indicators used to regulate human
behavior.
In cultural studies, or Cultural Studies (CS), the concept of culture can be
understood in line with changes in behavior and social structure in Europe in the
19th century. This change has the effect of the growing influence of technology.
The term culture itself is a comprehensive study analyzing the meaning of an
object in the study. For example, in addition there are also studied cultural
anthropology in the study of sociology, history, ethnography, literature criticism
and even sociobiology.
Study focuses on cultural studies (CS) This is the aspect of culture and power
relations that can be seen in pop culture. In the tradition of British Cultural
Studies, inherited by the Raymonds Williams, Hoggarts, and Stuart Hall, the
concept of cultural or "culture" (in English) merpakan the most complicated thing
for them meant that the concept is called a tool that more or less have value.
Williams defines the concept of universal cultural approach, the concept of

culture refers to the common meanings. Meaning is centered on everyday

meaning: values, objects of material / symbolic, norm. Culture is the experience
of everyday life: a variety of texts, practices, and meanings of all the people in
their life (Barker, 2005: 50-55). Culture is defined by Williams over near the
'culture' as a whole way of life.
Because it is recommended that cultures explored in some term. First, the
institutions that produce and cultural arts. Second, education formations,
movements, and faction-faction in cultural production. Third, the forms of
production, including all its manifestation. Fourth, the identification and cultural
forms, including specialty products of cultural, aesthetic purposes. Fifth, their
reproduction in space and time travel. And sixth, the way their organization.
Compared with the opinion of John Storey, the concept of culture is interpreted
as a political rather than aesthetic. Dan Storey think 'culture' is used in CS is not
a concept of culture as defined in other studies as keadiluhungan aesthetic
object ('high art') or a process of development of the aesthetic, intellectual, and
spiritual, but as cultural texts and practices of everyday life- days (Storey, 2007:
2). In this case, seems Storey agreed with the definition of 'culture' by Raymonds
Williams, another case with Stuart Hall emphasizes that 'culture' in the political
realm
