Dates for your Diary

Summer Fete Saturday 27th June 1.00-4.00pm on the School Field.

Next Saturday!!
Many thanks to all who have offered help, donated prizes, or money. We
have volunteers to man the stalls and games, but still need helpers to sell
cakes, and helpers to serve teas:- 1.00-2.00pm, 2.00-3.00pm, 3.00-4.00pm.
Disposable cups are used nowadays, so there is very little washing up.
There is also a big box next in the porch for donations of gifts for the
Tombola, Children's Tombola and the various stalls and games. No jumble
or bric-a-brac thank you!
Cakes, home produce and plants are always best sellers. Please deliver
them to the School, if possible, on Fri 26th pm or Sat 27th am.
Setting up usually begins at 10.30am approx. and cleaning up and
transporting back to the Church Hall at approx. 3.30pm. (At the end of the
day, extra helping hands are greatly appreciated!)

PRAYER GROUP - After the initial meeting last week, it was agreed that,
for the next few weeks, the meeting will take place in the Church at 7pm
(as there will be no evening Mass). The prayer will take the basic format of
Evening Prayer of the Church with the opportunity to extend the various
elements of the Prayer (Praise and adoration, listening to Scripture
readings and Intercession for our various needs). To give you a sense of
how long the meeting might last - last week we prayed together for about
half an hour!

Fr Peter Gallagher RIP

With great sadness we learned of the death of Fr Peter
Gallagher last Monday 8th June. As you know, Fr Peter
was Parish Priest here at St Benedict's for 30 years
before his retirement in 2013. After a sudden collapse
in his bathroom, Fr Peter could not be revived and his
long life ended
The Funeral arrangements have now been made. The principal Requiem
Mass, celebrated by the Archbishop and concelebrated by many of the
priests of the diocese, will take place in Nuneaton at 11.30 am on Friday
26th June at the Church of Our Lady of the Angels. This Church has been
chosen as the location of the Requiem Mass because it is large enough to
accommodate the numbers of priests and people likely to be participating
in the Mass and prayers for Fr Peter. Also because the Nuneaton parish
was where Fr Peter grew up and celebrated his first Mass after ordination.
However, in recognition of the 30 years Fr Peter ministered as Parish
Priest here at St Benedict's, and as a special opportunity for as many
parishioners to come together to pray for his soul, Fr Peter's body will be
brought to St Benedict's Church on Thursday 25th June at 7.00 pm, after
which the Dean, Fr Michael Gamble, will celebrate Mass for him. Fr Peter's
body will remain in the Church overnight until 9.00 am on Friday morning,
when the coffin will be taken to Nuneaton.
After the evening Mass, the Church will remain open for a period of time,
so that parishioners may have the opportunity to come to pray for Fr Peter
- and also for a period of time before 9.00 am in the morning.

Fr Paul -- Early in the week last week the Queen Elizabeth Hospital offered
me the possibility of going into hospital sooner than the original date. The date
for the surgery is now Monday 29th June! I have happily accepted this - good
to get things done as soon as possible now. This means that I go away to
Rome this weekend and return next Saturday. I shall go into hospital the next
day (Sunday 28th) and have the surgery on the following day. Fr Raphael will
celebrate the Masses from now on. God bless you all. I'll be in touch!
