UNIT Title: The Nature and Characteristics of the Church

CONTENT STANDARD: The learners demonstrate understanding of the different characteristics of the Church that make it different from the usual
organizations.
PERFORMANCE STANDARD: The learners able to deepen appreciation of the uniqueness and Holiness of the Church as shaped by sponsoring a
Eucharistic celebration in the parish or
school.
RELATED LGPs:
1. Challenge learners to realize their full potential.
2. Brings Christian perspectives to bear on human understanding, skills and values of the learners.
3. Are dynamic and encourage differentiation, diversity, and synergy amongst learners that are fraternal, caring and respectful.

The Church is the Body of Christ, composed of men and women who are united in Jesus and are guided by the Holy Spirit. They press towards
the Kingdom of the Father and are bearers of the message of salvation intended for all peoples. Certain characteristics make the Church different from the
usual organizations. We identify the Church as the Body of Christ, People of God, One, Holy, Catholic, and apostolic. These marks of the Church make us
unique.

Make a reflection paper on the catholicity and apostolicity of the Church.
OVERARCHING ENDURING UNDERSTANDING (EU)
Being members of the Church, we should be aware of the giftedness of our Church. By deepening our understanding of the characteristics of the Church,
we will also deepen our faith in God and act according to Gods will.
OVERARCHING ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS:
1. What makes the Church the Body of Christ? People of God? One and Holy? Catholic and Apostolic?
2. How do we share in mystery of Christ in the Church?

A. KNOWLEDGE (DOCTRINE)
The nature and characteristics of the Church is founded in Jesus Christ, who was sent by the father and guided by the Holy Spirit.
B. SKILLS (MORALS AND WORSHIP)
Continue the examples of Jesus Christ and spread the good news of salvation.
Give thanks to God for revealing to mankind His love through the Church.
