Section Master Class Schedule (Fall 2012)

At the request of several students who wanted a more structured Master class, we have changed the format to
the following:

Each master class or group of master classes will have a topic.

Attendance is mandatory. Attendance will be taken. Your participation in each topic area is part of you studio mark and you
will be marked on it.
All students will prepare every tune assigned to their grade level for each master class.
Four or more students will be called as a group to play for the class and given 20 minutes concentrated instruction this will
allow four groups per class. Students may elect to form their own groups that will perform throughout the year or
individuals will be called to perform spontaneously.
All students should attend each class (this means being present at 12:45), bring their instruments to the class and be
prepared to play. Once a student has performed during a designated topic period, they are not required to bring their
instrument to the next classes in that sequence.
There will be 3 playlists one for 1st year students, one for 2nd year students, and one for 3rd/4th year students. There will
be different expectations for each experience level (e.g. tempo, accomplishment level, understanding/demonstration of
harmony/form, solo ability, etc.).
Students are higher levels (2nd, 3rd/4th year) are expected to know and be able to perform all tunes performed by students at
levels lower than their own. For example, a 3rd or 4th year student should be able to perform all tunes performed by 1st and
2nd year students during that topic area.
Schedule is subject to change. Please be prepared to move from one topic area to another sooner than this schedule
indicates.

Topics will focus on particular styles or concepts, and be related directly to standard tunes (as listed below).
