DECLARATION OF CONFORMITY FOR

ENERGISE TO TRIP SYSTEMS ONLY

Where equipment used in other applications, whereby the safety function is by
de-energisation of the solenoid; refer to ER0533-4-2 in lieu of this document.

Has been assessed and found to meet the requirements of

IEC 61508:2010 (2nd edition)

Where the safety operation of the valve is by energisation of the solenoid
The Maxseal solenoid valve SIL assessment consists of:
Type A SIRA report FSP 04001, pertains to configurations whereby the safety operation is by deenergisation of the solenoid. Using the validated core data, and identical calculation methodology, the failure
rate for systems whereby safety operation of the valve is by energisation of the solenoid has been derived
(see TV Report ER0767-12):

Here du is calculated conservatively to include all credible dangerous failure modes (failure to energise & valve stuck conditions)
In a 2oo2 configuration (HFT=1) SIL3 can be achieved
For a Proof Test Interval PTI of 1 year. PFDavg for other PTIs may be calculated via methodology in IEC61508(2010).
Dangerous failure rate does not include removal of power supply from solenoid.

Thompson Valves Ltd has demonstrated a functional safety management system that meets the safety lifecycle requirements of IEC 61508-1:2010 clause 6 for the development and production of Maxseal valves.
Special Conditions This declaration is applicable automatic solenoid valves; both mechanically latching
and non-latching.
The on-going validity of the safety integrity capability stated within this document is conditional on correct
installation and maintenance (See Product Manuals e.g. IC04 MI0202), and of particular note to fire
suppression applications; operation within stated temperature limits key parameters tabulated below:
