PRIORITIES FOR THE PRESENT

WORSHIP, INVITATION, SERVICE
Mission Priorities for the Next 6 Months

First Christian Church . . .

Where invitations not only happen on occasion
they happen on every occasion.

This is the slogan that I suggested last Sunday for our congregation concerning our developing
a Culture of Invitation. This in reflection of the three priorities for the next six months suggested by
a meeting of our Elders and Diaconate:
Providing Excellence in Worship
Developing a Culture of Invitation
and Participating in Hands-On Service.
This coming Sunday, I will be addressing the third of these priorities. Drawing from both the
Great Commission from Matthew 28:16-20 and the Parable of the Sheep and the Goats from Matthew
25:31-46, I look forward to sharing a word of challenge and celebration.
I believe that this sermon and the three that have preceded it are important for understanding
our common priorities over the next 6 months. I hope you will do your best to be in worship this
Sunday as we close out the series. And if you are unable to be in worship this Sunday or have been
unable to be with us one of the last three Sundays, please take time to listen to or read these sermons
as they are posted on our Website www.fullertonfirstchristian.org.
See you on Sunday!
Blessings,

P.S. Check out my Blog at www.fromdalesdesk.com

he shares his views about God. We will be
discussing his thoughts in more depth this
coming Sunday, June 28. The remaining topics
will be discussed in two-week blocks of time as
follows, with us seeing the DVD on the first
Sunday and having an in-depth discussion of it
on the second Sunday.

course of study, to be determined by the class,
on or before, September 13. If youd like to join
us this coming Sunday, or on any Sunday, you
are most welcome. The study book that we are
using to guide our discussions of Dr. Borgs

CWS Baby Kits Project Has

Been Completed
Hot Meal Freezer Suddenly Not Cool!

It was discovered recently that the

freezer containing meat dedicated to our Hot
Meal Ministry wasnt working. Upon
investigation we learned that one side of circuit
breakers in the Fellowship Hall electrical panel
had been flipped to the OFF position. The end
result was 40 pounds of spoiled meat.
If you would like to make a donation to
the Hot Meal Ministry to offset this loss, you
may do so by sending a check to the church,
with HMM written on the memo line. And if
you have ideas on how to prevent this from
happening again in the future, wed love to
hear about it. Many thanks to Tom & Leslie
Beck who tackled the disaster.
Amy Styffe, Property & Stewardship Ministry

Members of the Outreach

Ministry, plus anyone else who is
interested in helping, will assemble the Baby
Kits that have been provided by gifts from
members of the congregation during June. This
work will be done this Sunday after worship in
Fellowship Hall. We thank all of you who
donated through this past Sunday. Your
generosity enabled us to buy enough items to
provide 15 Baby Kits for this Outreach Project.
After the Baby Kits have been assembled, they
will be mailed on Monday to Church World
Service in Little Rock, Arkansas for
distribution wherever they are needed around
the world, perhaps even in our nation. Once
again, your generosity is making a difference
in the lives of people in need! Thank you!

Summary Of June
Outreach Ministry
Meeting

The Outreach Ministry met on

Wednesday, June 17. Here is a summary of the
reports made and actions taken during that
meeting.
1. We received an additional $100 for
the Pentecost Offering on the first Sunday of
June. This moved our total for this offering up
to $1014.16 well above our goal of $765.
2. Donna Woodbridge, Tri-Tip Project
Coordinator reported that profit through May
stood at $3,557.31.
3. We heard a report from Craig Wallace
about the experience of our 6 members who
went on the June 7-13 Mission Trip to
Loveland, CO. They felt that the trip was
successful, though they reported some
concerns with the organizational work of the
church, not a Disciples congregation, that is
coordinating the work being done by
volunteers from many congregations
representing many denominations in the
Loveland area.
4. Learned that as of June 14, we had
received funds to cover the cost of 14 Baby Kits
for Church World Service. (See article page 5.)
5. Welcomed the Rev. Elroy Panko,
Wilshire Avenue Community Church, who
informed us about the gleaning ministry of
Youth With a Mission (YWAM) in
Soltana, California, near Dinuba. (See article on
page 7.) His congregation has taken several
trips to this area, including one concluded in
April with another one planned for November
1-6. The work they and other volunteers have
done has helped to feed people in over 100
countries around the world. We have been
invited to go with the Wilshire Avenue
congregation on the November trip. The cost is
$100 per person, plus $50 toward
transportation from Fullerton to Soltana and
back.
If this interests you, please give your
name either to Donna Woodbridge or Ed
Linberg so we can add your name to the list
for this November activity. By the way,
the accommodations for volunteers who go to

Soltana are first rate and Elroy told us that the

meals that are served to volunteers are first
rate. This does not sound like volunteers are
roughing it. But their work is very
important and makes a difference to many
people around the world, so this is a great
chance for us to get involved in another
hands-on ministry.
6. Received a report from Laura Lee
Wiggins about the plans she has made as
Coordinator for the Christmas in July Project.
Look for an initial article about this project
elsewhere in this issue of The Caller so you
will know how to get involved in this project if
you choose to do so.
7. Plans for the 2015 Alternative Gift
Faire were discussed. It is set for Sunday,
November 1st on the Plaza. Two members of
the Outreach Ministry have stepped up to be
Coordinators for this years event. They are
Mary Anne Richmond and Jill Scott, who will
share this responsibility for the first time as
they succeed Barbara Fenters who, with Helen
Bailey, coordinated this event for many years.
We will be devoting a good block of time to the
planning for this event at our July 15 meeting.
If YOU would like to help with the
planning and conducting of this event for 2015,
you are invited to come to the July 15 meeting
of the Outreach Ministry. We will put this item
first on the agenda for July so you can leave the
meeting when we have concluded our initial
planning for this years AGF. Speak to either
Jill or Mary Anne to let them know of your
interest in working with them on this very
important annual project which usually
generates at least $12,000 for the participating
organizations.
8. We had a preliminary discussion
about our observance of the Childrens Sabbath
program in September and October of this
year.
Ed Linberg, Chair, The Outreach Ministry

An Opportunity To
Be Involved In
Gleaning

The Outreach
Ministry has been considering ways for our
congregation to get involved in a gleaning
ministry. At our recent Outreach Ministry
Team meeting we heard from Rev. Elroy
Panko, Wilshire Avenue Community Churchs
Music Director and Associate Pastor, about
Gleanings for the Hungry, a Fresno area
ministry that uses volunteers in a variety of
ways to feed hungry people around the world.
They do this by putting together soup mixes
and dried fruit using vegetables and fruits that
growers donate to them. His congregation has
sent volunteers up north for several years to be
part of this ministry, including a 97 year old
and a 92 year old who were part of their most
recent trip in April.
They are going to take another group of
volunteers to the Fresno area from November 1
to 6. The cost is $100, plus transportation.
Lodging and all meals are provided in this
cost. We are invited to join them in this
ministry. At the present time any of our
members who would choose to be part of this
ministry would be on a wait list. Those who
choose to be on their wait list will only be
able to go if someone drops out. He
encouraged us to get our members to sign up
for the wait list because Gleanings for the
Hungry, the name of the Fresno area ministry,
often calls him near the time their group is
going north to say they can use more
volunteers.
While there is a chance we wont be able
to go, even if our members sign up, the
Outreach Ministry invites those of you who are
interested in possibly being part of this
ministry to give your names either to Donna
Woodbridge or Ed Linberg. We need to know
of your interest in being put on a wait list on,
or before, next Sunday, July 5th? There are a
few brochures about this ministry on the table
in the narthex if youd like to know more about
it.
The Outreach Ministry

Hark, the Herald

Angels Sing
What Will Our
Congregation Bring For
CHRISTMAS IN JULY??
Once again we have the opportunity to
bring a smile of joy to the face of a young child
or teenager who might not otherwise have a
gift that is just his or hers on Christmas
morning. We know that the focus of Christmas
is not about gifts, although when Christmas
trees and carols seem part of the commercial
world about the same time as Halloween and
pumpkins, we may wonder. But we also know
the excitement and anticipation of gift-giving
and gift-receiving. That being said, we invite
you to be a part of FCCFs participation in
Pathways of Hopes preparation for giving
Christmas gifts to families it serves.
Throughout the month of July, there
will be a Christmas wreath in the Narthex with
ornaments suggesting gifts you might wish
to donate. Here is the procedure:
Take an ornament off the tree.
On the back of the ornament will be a
ticket for a thank You* opportunity drawing.
Bring your gift to the box in the
Narthex. Please leave the price tag on it as we
need to submit a total of the amount donated
from FCCF.
Write your name on the back of the
opportunity drawing ticket and put it in the
Christmas box on the counter by the wreath.
The drawing will be held the first
Sunday in August.
*Thank you gifts are
1. Two tickets to the Christmas Concert
(2015) of the Mountainside Master Chorale.
2. A Christmas Classic Movie Night-athome Its a Wonderful Life DVD, Popcorn
and candy basket.
3. Christmas CD, and candles basket.
Thank you for being a part of this
joyous project!
