Describe your family

You should say:

How large your family is

How much time you spend with your family

What you like to do together as a family

How well you get along with your family

Explain how close people in your country are to their families

At present, my family is just like other nuclear families with five people. Around a
year ago I had my grandparents in my big family. However, they have passed
away so suddenly. My grandpa and then grandma.
Well, to be honest when people get older they spend less time on their family. And
I am not exceptional. I guess, I spend well over 12 hours at home and just 4 or 5
hours actually together with my family. Apparently, its the precious time at night
when we all can gather around the dinner table or the tv sets.
The best part is the comedy programme on tv. We regard it explicitly or implicitly
as the common and the only mutual activities of my family. Isnt it so great to
have some relaxing moments after a hard working day, laughing talking
discussing together with beloved ones.
I really love mine. It is surprising that we manage to live in harmony so well,
although sometimes quarrels are inevitable.
In my country, it has been long believed that every single family is the root of the
society and it plays a very essential role in building up a strong nation. So every
member in a normal family always has a strong connection with others. Although
nobody has the tendency to hang their heart on their mouth but I believe people
in my country are closely connected with their family one way or another.

Topic 12. Some people say that older people should live with
their adult children. Your opinion?
* In my view, I strongly agree that older people should live with their adult children in
later time.
Keeping the parents at home to care is appropriate to Vietnamese moral
values. Vietnamese as well as Eastern cultures place enormous value on family and
the elderly. It means that children have responsibility in caring their parents when
they get older. And until now, majority still respect and maintain these values.
Obviously, in Vietnam societies always have negative views to people who send their
parents to aging homes or nursing home.
In old age, people become sick and disabled due to declining health. That is
the reason why they can no longer live alone and need adult childrens help. In later
time, parents want most to have caring, sharing ties with their family. Parents enjoy
feeling needed and loved, and they are flattered when asked for advice. Thus, the
attention and care of family members will make the rest of the elderlys life become
more meaningful and happier. Obviously, Elders will feel loved and accepted if their
own children look after them in when they get trouble in ailments. When living in
aging home or nursing home, many people feel solitary and abandoned. They just
wish to be surrounded by the laugh of their descendents or simply play with their
grandchildren
Finally, experience is certainly the foremost attribute that adult children can
gain from their parents and grandparents. Children can definitely learn from the
vicissitudes of their parents' and grandparents' lives. While on the other side of the
argument, children whose elderly parents do not live with them will remain deprived
of their experiences of life. Sometimes, if parents are still relatively healthy, they
may be able to baby-sit or help around the house.

Topic 17: Animals bring humans a lot of benefits. What are the
benefits? Explain and give examples:
* It is an indisputable the fact that animals bring a vast amount of benefits to our lives.
Wild animals play an essential role in keeping ecosystem balanced. For example,
predators keep the population of mice under control, insects pollinate flowers, and
worms decompose leaf litter.
Animals bring economic values: Animals, especial livestock, provide a source of
food such as meat, egg, milk for daily meals as well as for the production and processing
of food. Animals also produce a range of fiber/textiles. For
example, sheep and goats produce wool and mohair; cows, deer, and sheep skins can be
made into leather; bones, hooves and horns of livestock can be used to decorate as well.
In addition, many animals are still used for work. The strength of horses, elephants
and oxen is used in pulling carts and logs. The keen sense of smell of dogs and,
sometimes, rats are used to search for drugs and explosives as well helping to find game
while hunting and to search for missing or trapped people. Several animals
including camels, donkeys, horses and dogs are used for transport, either riding or to pull
wagons and sleds. Other animals including dogs and monkeys provide assistance to blind
or disabled people.
Animals bring benefits to medicine: Today, many medicinal remedies contain
ingredients derived from animals. They are also used as experimental models to test new
drug or surgical technique. Besides, some animals have biological similarities to humans
that make them particularly good models for specific diseases, such as rabbits for
atherosclerosis or monkeys for polio.

Animals in sport, companionship and leisure are all very important aspects of
human association with animals
Recent studies have shown that having a pet brings benefits for child development.
Whether it is a hermit crab or gold fish, a dog, cat or horse, children enjoy the
companionship offered by animals. That not only can pets be a source of warm, fuzzy
entertainment, but they can offer several developmental benefits to children as well. A
child's physical, social, emotional and cognitive development can all be encouraged by
interaction with pets.

It is obvious that animals play an important role in humans

life. The benefits they bring are so clear. Thus, each individual has
responsibility to protect and preserve animals around us.

Topic 2 What could be the good and the bad things about
country life in Vietnam?
v

* GOOD THINGS:
Vietnam life in the countryside is very peaceful and calm. In the country, people
are woken up by the singing of the birds rather than by the noise from the traffic. Homes
are surrounded by bamboo-hedged villages and beautiful patchworks of green paddies.
Besides, the image of hard-working farmers in their conical hats or water buffaloes on
the farm has made warm and cozy feelings in here.
In the Vietnam country, village relationships are clearly shown. Everyone knows
everyone and knows everything about everyone. Communities are small but they are
connected and open. Vietnamese villagers live closely and prepare to help their
neighborhoods whenever they need without asking anything in return.
Due to virtual absence of cars and factories, it is obviously that people will not be
inhaling any potentially toxic fumes in the country. Clean air is without a doubt one of
the main advantages of country life in Vietnam.
The slow pace of life also help people takes away a great deal of stress and be
able to enjoy simple things in life.
