St. Josephs Hospital announces

Excellence in Medicine Awards recipients
Stacy Boden, nurse practitioner; and Patrick Gardner, MD;
have been honored with the second annual Excellence in
Medicine Award from Froedtert & the Medical College of
Wisconsin St. Josephs Hospital.
Physicians and nurses at St. Joseph's Hospital were invited
to nominate one of their peers for the award, which recognizes
the accomplishments of an individual physician or advanced
practitioner at St. Josephs Hospital. Nominees were evaluated
based on upholding clinical practice standards, leadership,
innovation, volunteerism to improve health care in a local community, the ability to communicate with colleagues and staff,
and how the nominee supports the hospitals mission, vision
and values.
She is always happy to help anyone out who needs extra
teaching, has questions or concerns and she does all this with
a smile and genuine interest in that person learning the needed
skills, said a nominator about Boden. She has had a tremendous impact on the staff, but more important is the impact on
the infants and families who have greatly benefited from
Stacys excellent innovations in neonatal resuscitation training
of the staff at St. Joseph's Hospital.
Boden, a nurse practitioner on staff at St. Joseph's Hospital
since 2004, also serves on the hospital's Pediatric Practice
Committee, Critical Response Committee, Policy and Procedure
Committee; the Substance Abuse Committee for the hospital
and West Bend Health Center; and West Bend Health Center's
Plan of Care Committee and Practice Optimization Committee.
She serves on the Washington County Early Intervention
Group, and Opiate Forum; and is a member of the Wisconsin
Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners, National
Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners, Wisconsin Asthma
Coalition, and American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. She
is a graduate of Marquette University.
The physicians trust Pat's pathology reports, said a nominator about Dr. Gardner. They feel confident giving the results
to their patients. He has mentored new physician leaders to

transition into their role. He leads by example and representing
the medical staff at the system level. He is the voice of reason
and uses a common sense approach. He is a go-to person
when staff have concerns about practice issues. He is well
respected by the physician staff, administration and house
staff.
Gardner, a pathologist on staff at St. Josephs Hospital
since 1998, also services as the hospital's vice president of
medical affairs. He is a member of the hospital's executive
team, serves as medical director of the lab, and Epic liaison for
operating room governance; and serves on the Pharmacy and
Therapeutics Committee, Utilization Review, Dragon Steering
Committee, Ebola Committee, and Voice of the Family and
Patient Advisory Council. He is board-certified in pathology
and is a graduate of the Medical College of Wisconsin.
In addition to Boden and Dr. Gardner, this years nominees
were Dr. Robert Gibson, Dr. Mary Lewis, Dr. Eric Olafsson, Tom
Saugen, Dr. Jeffrey Smale, Heather Stack and Dr. Madhuri
Trivedi.

West leads North

Shore standings
The West Bend West baseball team
remained undefeated and on top of the
North Shore Conference standings early
last week.
The Spartans defeated Grafton June
23, 9-1. Jake Lenz recorded three strikeouts
over five innings for the win. Jack Thelen
drove in two runs while Lenz and Evan
Albrecht drove in one run each. Afterward,
West had a 9-0 conference record and a
16-0 overall mark.
West Bend East had a 1-9 conference
record and a 2-12 overall mark following a
9-2 loss to Cedarburg June 2.
Rock River results
The Rubicon Red Sox were in second
place in the Rock River Northern Division
with a 7-1 record. Rubicon beat Oakfield
beat Juneau June 21, 10-4.
The Hartford Hawks were third in the
division with a 7-2 record. The Hawks beat
Oakfield June 21, 10-4.
Hustisford was fourth in the division
with a 6-3 record. Hustisford beat Lebanon
June 21, 14-0.
Slinger is sixth in the division with a 3-6
record. The Stingers lost to Brownsville June
21, 8-5

Summertime painting, ceramics offered at Schauer School of the Arts

The Schauer School of the Arts will be hosting painting and ceramic classes for ages 6 to
14. Youth visual arts classes encourage individual expression and provide opportunities to work
directly with professional artists. Classes are
held at the Schauer Center, 147 N. Rural St. in
downtown Hartford.
Offerings for the Summer include:
Ceramics (ages 6-14) on Tuesdays, July

7-28 from 3 to 4:30 p.m.: Students will develop

their unique connection to clay through exploration of various hand-building techniques.
Class culminates with a glaze-finish ceramic
work that is functional sculptural, or both.
Summer Painting (ages 7-14) on
Mondays, July 20 to Aug. 10, 4 to 6 p.m. (no
class July 27): The multimedia class will teach
background, foreground, tints, shading, and

blocking while students paint a butterfly, sea turtle, and an underwater seascape.
Intermediate Ceramics (ages 8-14) on
Tuesdays, Aug. 4-25 from 3 to 4:30 p.m.: A class
for returning ceramics students to go beyond the
basics and learn additional hand-building techniques.
