Pioneer Day 3: The Color Guard of Meadow Vista Boy Scout Troop 6
lead the Pioneer Day Parade.
Pioneer Day
2015

Strong password policy: Make sure you and your employees use strong
passwords, and that the same one isnt used everywhere. Adopting a password
manager for your organization is an easy way to help employees use effective
passwords and keep them safe.
Even though temperatures hit the century mark by the time the parade started
at noon, Placer Hills Road was lined with local residents young and old. For
some, the events marked their first Pioneer Day while for others this was
another annual chance to share in the traditions of friendship and community.
For Colleen Lewis, a long time Meadow Vista resident and former Pioneer Day
Princess, the event was a chance to see friends and revel in the community
spirit. It was cool to see all of the people walking around Meadow Vista and
knowing that they were there to support Pioneer Day, she said.
Awareness training: All the defenses in the world may not prevent an
employee from making a silly mistake. Train your employees on Internet safety
so theyre wary of attachments or links in emails, even if they seem to come
from people they trust.
For young Zachariah Kents, the highlight of his day was the copious amount
of candy tossed his way from various floats and antique autos as they passed
down the parade route, which elicited cheers and squeals of excitement from
children chasing to capture their respective share of the loot.
To learn more, you can download a new free ebook The Cyber Crime Guide
for Small and Midsize Businesses, at secure.watchguard.com/CyberCrimeeBook.html.
The parade was lead by Meadow Vista Boy Scout Troop 6s Color Guard,
recipients of the Sheriffs Trophy sponsored by Placer County Sheriff Ed
Bonner. Other notable parade participants included Colfax High Cheer
Leaders, winners of the Sweepstakes Award sponsored by US Bank, and
Woody Woodlee and his fully restored 1946 Willies Jeep, the Judges Favorite,
sponsored by Meadow Vista Village Center.

Dont become a statistic. With small steps, you can better protect your business
against cyber threats.
Member of the Colfax Cheer Squad, marching in the Pioneer Day Parade.
Fred Eichenhofer, owner of Sierra Pacific Realty Estate and center board
chairman, said a committee has been formed to explore the idea of the library,
now located in a nearby business center, to move to the community center. A
move in November seems possible if the county and the center board came to
agreement.
Over at Meadow Vista Park, crews were busy preparing for the crowd that would
follow the end of the parade. For Justin Wood, President of the Placer hills Fire
fighters Association, the day was the culmination of a long and arduous process.
With planning starting in January of this year Pioneer Day is the end result of
a lot of hard work, sleepless nights, and dedication to the community, stated
Justin.
The north wing is pretty much all done, Eichenhofer said. Were doing it in
sections and are already having people inquiring about using it.
The north wing, including restrooms and a foyer, would provide meeting and
event space. The south area, where the library could be located, would need
tenant improvements including construction of bathroom facilities, he said.
The Kids Zone, which was sponsored by Meadow Vista Doctors, featured
bounce houses and a climbing wall. Rising temperatures kept the line for shave
ice perpetually long, while Indian Tacos and Placer Hills steak sandwiches kept
diners well fed too. The crowd was entertained by the soulful voice of local
resident Justin Ancheta and his band.
With about $900,000 already spent in cash and in-kind contributions over more
than 20 years of construction and fundraising, Broadwell said another $50,000
should be enough to pay for final improvements.
There were several demonstration and informational booths around the park
as well. Wild Things, Inc. brought along many rehabilitated wild animals to
share with the public and students from Waldorf Live Oak School put on a
demonstration of old school wood working. The celebration offered a little
something for everyone, with a mechanical bull ride, face painting, and henna
tattoos.
By the end of the day, with easy-ups and family and friends populating much
of Meadow Vista Park, it was plain to see that Pioneer Day 2015 was another
success in the long and storied history of Meadow Vista.
The timing is excellent to vitalize the community center, stabilize the library and
have a profound cultural effect on the community, Brown said.

At 1 p.m., Shie Ann Yates of Auburn will sing the National Anthem for the
seventh consecutive year.
Its an amazing experience, said 17-year-old Yates, who also sings in the
Placer High School choir and for the Auburn Wildcats Summer League. I just
love singing . . . I love the area.
The day will continue with Wolf radio, live country music, and actors playing
the part of pioneers. The main parade begins at 6 p.m. and theres no
registration necessary for participants. All who want to participate are invited
to the marshaling area at South Auburn and East Oak Streets at 5 p.m. The fee
is $20, but theres no cost to charitable organizations.
There are plans to include a water zone with fire department trucks in this
years parade, according to Frank Klein, President of the Colfax Chamber of
Commerce.
It spices things up to have water flying, he said.
Twanna Turner, daughter of Ike Turner, will perform funk, rock, rhythm and
blues at 7 p.m. in Lots of Art Park.
Many residents continue to ask whether or not there will be fireworks, Klein
said, though the decision not to include fireworks was made last winter.
I predict were not going to have fireworks until we have 40 inches of rain,
Klein said. The fire chief is dead set against fireworks, and I dont blame him.

BANK ROBBERY
By Tim Robinson - For Meadow Vista Life
Meadow Vista A masked gunman who entered the Wells Fargo Bank in
Meadow Vista around 6 p.m. June 16 night, reportedly demanding money
remains on the loose.
According to Sergeant Ben Machado, of the Placer County Sheriffs Office, an
unknown amount of cash was taken from the bank and no injuries were reported
as the gunman exited the building and sped away in a vehicle in an unknown
direction of travel.
Placer County Chaplains were called in to help assist some of the employees of
the bank who were distraught after the robbery.
Machado said that an initial perimeter was established and a California Highway
Patrol helicopter was called in to assist with the search for the alleged robber.

If you are ok with cooking in the heat, fresh grilled fin or shell fish get along
with this salad very well too. This recipe is one that I posted to my allrecipes
site in 2010. It was a hit right off the bat and still an allrecipes favorite with a 4.5
star rating. Its defiantly a summer salad you have to try. With all the summer
crops arriving at your local market, farmers or otherwise. There is a bounty of
fresh mouthwatering produce from which to create your master piece.
So get out there, and grab some of earths little gems and create my cucumber
tomato salad as is or get creative and make it your own. Give your body some
sunshine on the inside with the flavors of fresh summer produce. As always
play with your food. Your belly will be happy you did.
