WHAT THIS BOOK IS ABOUT

From Marketing to Manufacturing the range of specialisations is quite diverse. Take a look...
Gone are the days, when an MBA or a PGDM meant Finance, Marketing, Human Resources or
Systems or Production in select colleges. When we began collating, the number of specialisations
that are on offer, the figure went beyond 100. If one adds the MBAs focussed on a vertical (Named
MBA programmes) like Infrastructure, Power or Oil &Gas, the number could easily cross 150. But
quite a few course offerings are similar in nature and hence to ease the students search we have
clubbed them too. We have finally arrived at around 42 different programmes on offer in the
country. They can be further grouped into ten major disciplines like Banking, Infrastructure, Finance,
Marketing, Entrepreneurship, Environment, Human Resources etc. Each individual profile presents a
birds eye view of the programme, the core subjects being taught, the skill sets imparted, the nature
of job prospects that one can expect and the type of organisations where they would be placed after
the completion of the programme. We also present a select list of institutions that offer the
specialisations or the Named MBA/PGDM programmes. Heres a look....

Information Technology usage is

disciplines in management

With rapidly changing workplace and workforce, Human Resource Managers are the need of the

An employees experience in a company is greatly influenced by its Human Resource Manager who

policies and ensures that they follow it while ensuring that they are in compliance with the
employment and labour laws. Altogether, an HR Manager manages the organisations workforce
from the time they are selected, recruited, trained till they are rewarded. In circumstances where
employees desire and are legally authorised to hold a collective bargaining agreement, a HR
Manager will typically also serve as the companys primary liaison with the employees

areas like e-commerce, market research, advertising, global operations have to be researched in

what kind of a market exists in on different lands.

incorporate attributes so that they are comfortable to work in unfamiliar markets. Students who
train as International Business Managers get to work in multinational corporations (MNCs) or other
kinds of businesses operation on foreign land. During the study programme, it becomes imperative
for the students to learn about various trade regulations related to import and export. Apart from

foreign language course along with the regular programme so as to perform to their best when in
the field. It is advisable that when a student is choosing to go for a programme in International

37. Technology Management

Engage with innovations
The course rekindles your thought process in recognising the need for technological design &
development which talk to dynamic market needs.
In response to the rapid development in businesses with technology at its core, organisations have
shown keen interest in such professionals who can make decisive interventions in handling data and
carrying out robust analyses. A cursory glance at the profiles of technology management
professionals, across the globe, infers that these executives have one, a fair knowledge of the
business processes, two, the ability to understand, evaluate and forecast how technologies impact
the systems within and outside the organisation and three, an ardent desire to be a change agent to
make life better for people. Typically, the formal educational background of this breed is an

41. Corporate management

Understanding organisations
The programme offers add-on understanding of legal and strategic aspects that suit the corporate
sector
Corporate management teaches the process of leading, administrating and directing a company.
Business tasks often performed include strategic planning, and managing company resources so as
to optimise their usage towards attaining the companys objectives. On the face of it, corporate
management and holistic growth may seem conflicting, especially since so much of wheeling and
dealing is required on the management front. This difference is, however, merely of focus and is
otherwise illusory, as holistic growth is gradually becoming an integral part of management the
world over.
