STAGES
Warm up activity
Interaction: T-Ss; S-T
Timing: 15
Purpose: to check previous knowledge
T. asks the Ss to sing a song they have learnt in the previous lesson: One little, two little,
three little numbers. Ss practice saying the numbers.
T. tells the children they are going to play a game named The king of numbers. Two
children come in front of the class and answer to a question given by the teacher. For
example: What number comes after eleven? The pupil who answers first stays in front of
the class, the other goes to his place. Then the next pupil comes beside the one remained
in front of the class and another question is asked. The one who remains in front of the
class till the end of the game is named The king of numbers
T shows Ss flashcards presenting food and drinks. T shows the flashcard one by one and
teaches the words. After the students get used to food and drinks vocabulary, T reveals
each picture slowly, by holding a blank piece of paper in front of the picture and slowly
moves it to reveal the picture while the students guess what it is.
Pre-speaking
Interaction: T-Ss
Timing: 5
Purpose: to identify food and drinks
Once students are familiar with the vocabulary, Ss are asked to play a game. T. sticks the
flashcards on the board and puts the class into two teams and calls out sentences about
the food she likes, e.g. I like pizza and chips. One child from each team runs out to the
board to touch the correct items and takes them as a reward. The team with the most
flashcards wins the game.
Speaking
Interaction: T-Ss; Ss-T; PW.
Timing: 8
Purpose: to practice new vocabulary
Ss are asked what food and drinks they like. They are encouraged to ask someone else the
same questions as the answers are expected.
What food do you like? What drink do you like?
I like
T. puts the students into pairs. They are going to make sentences using the food and drink
items on the board. T tries with a student first so everyone understands what to do:
Teacher says "banana" choosing an item from the board. The student has to make a
sentence (e.g. "I like bananas"). The answer should be the student's own true answer.
Then in pairs, students take turns in choosing a food item for their partner to make a
sentence about. For example:
Student A: apples
Student B: I like apples!
Student B: carrots
Student A: I dont like carrots!
Post -speaking
Interaction: T-Ss; Ss-T; GW.
Timing: 12
Purpose: to practice new vocabulary
Ss watch The hungry dragon story. As a mini-project, students design a menu for a
hungry monster. T. brainstorm lots of different foods they think a monster would like to
eat. Then students can work in pairs, and decide which food (and how many of each) to
put in their menu. T. monitors and helps with language where necessary. T gives students
paper so they can draw and illustrate their menus. Then they tell to the class what food
they chose to feed the monster.
Setting homework
Interaction: T-S
