NUEVA YORK, Aug. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- International Society of Aesthetic
Plastic Surgery (ISAPS) es lder mundial en ciruga plstica. Tras un
proceso de un ao de duracin, la Sociedad present "ISAPS Biennial Global
Survey(TM)" de intervenciones y cirujanos plsticos en los 25 pases y
regiones principales representando el 75% de todas las intervenciones de
2009. El ISAPS Survey representa los primeros datos internacionales fiables
de ciruga plstica obtenidos y analizados por especialistas estadsticos
independientes.
"Este ao es el 40 aniversario de la fundacin de ISAPS", apunt
Foad Nahai, doctor en medicina de Estados Unidos y actual presidente de
ISAPS. "Un grupo de cirujanos plsticos preocupados y proactivos fund la
Sociedad en Naciones Unidas. No hay forma mejor de conmemorar este
importante hito que encargando y publicando esta importante encuesta."
Tendencias geogrficas
La encuesta global de ISAPS revel una nueva jerarqua de pases con
las intervenciones cosmticas ms quirrgicas y menos quirrgicas. Mientras
que Estados Unidos sigue dominando en este campo, otros pases que no se
suelen asociar con la ciruga plstica estn emergiendo como importantes
centros.

Intervenciones quirrgicas y no quirrgicas ms famosas
Durante los ltimos diez aos, la opinin general ha sido que el
aumento de pecho era la operacin de ciruga esttica ms popular. La
encuesta general de ISAPS revela una nueva tendencia en la que la
liposuccin representa el 18,8% de todas las intervenciones quirrgicas,
seguida del aumento de pecho que representa el 17%, la blefaroplastia
(elevacin del prpado inferior o superior) que es un 13,5%, la rinoplastia
(modificacin de la forma de la nariz) que supone un 9,4% y la

abdominoplastia ("Tummy Tuck") que representa un 7,3%.
La popularidad de las intervenciones quirrgicas variaba en funcin del
pas, con Brasil, Estados Unidos, China, Mxico, India y Japn los pases
dominantes para las 5 intervenciones principales.
Reflejando ambos avances en la innovacin de la ciruga cosmtica y el
deseo de tratamientos menos caros, la cantidad de intervenciones no
quirrgicas realizadas por cirujanos plsticos super las intervenciones
quirrgicas. Mientras que no haya informacin de referencia previa con la
cual poder comparar estas cifras, no cabe duda de que los acontecimientos
han dado un giro drstico.
Las 5 principales intervenciones quirrgicas son: inyecciones de
toxinas o neuromoduladores (Botox, Dysport) (32,7%), inyecciones de cido
hialurnico (20,1%), depilacin lser (13,1%), inyecciones de grasa
autloga (transferir la grasa de una parte del pacientes otra parte del
mismo) (5,9%) y tratamiento lser IP (4,4%).
Los pases donde principalmente llevaron a cabo intervenciones no
quirrgicas fueron Estados Unidos, Brasil, Mxico y China, y en menor grado
Japn, Hungra, Corea del Sur, India y Alemania.
Totales Por fin una referencia creble
La encuesta global de ISAPS Global Survey tambin establece diversos
datos estadsticos importantes con respecto al nmero total de personas
certificadas (o equivalente nacional) hoy en da como cirujanos plsticos
en ejercicio; aproximadamente 30.817. Se calcula que el nmero total de
intervenciones quirrgicas asciende a 8.536.379 y el de las intervenciones
no quirrgicas, a 8.759.187 lo que hace que el total mundial de
intervenciones quirrgicas y no quirrgicas realizadas por cirujanos
plsticos certificados ascienda a 17.295.557. (Esta cifra no tiene en
cuenta las intervenciones quirrgicas y no quirrgicas efectuadas por
cirujanos no plsticos.)
El doctor Jan Poell de Suiza, el presidente entrante de ISAPS, observ

Metodologa
"Calcular las intervenciones quirrgicas y no quirrgicas en todo el
mundo fue una iniciativa compleja y desafiante", afirm el doctor Sampaio
Goes de Brasil, antiguo presidente del Comit de Comunicacin de ISAPS que
supervis esta encuesta. "Seleccionamos una empresa de encuestas respetada
con gran experiencia en la ciruga plstica, y los resultados obtenidos
fueron increbles, cientficamente significativos e influenciarn la
profesin durante aos."
Industry Insights, Inc. (http://www.industryinsights.com), firma de

investigacin independiente con sede en Columbus (Ohio, Estados Unidos),
recab, tabul y analiz la encuesta ISAPS Biennial Global Survey. El
principal responsable de la encuesta fue Scott Hackworth, contable
certificado que junto con la firma llev a cabo varias formas de investigar
las tendencias en la ciruga plstica esttica durante casi quince aos.
Los participantes en la encuesta completaron un cuestionario en ingls
de dos hojas centrado en el nmero de intervenciones quirrgicas y no
quirrgicas realizadas en 2009. ISAPS emiti una invitacin para participar
en el estudio a aproximadamente 20.000 cirujanos plsticos cuyos datos de
contacto se encuentran en la base de datos propietaria de ISAPS. Adems, se
pidi a todas las sociedades nacionales que animaran a sus miembros a
participar en la encuesta.
Se han proyectado las cifras finales para que reflejen los datos
estadsticos internacionales y se basan exclusivamente en el nmero
previsto de cirujanos plsticos por pas. Para ayudar a cuadrar el nmero
total de cirujanos plsticos en el mundo, los representantes de las
sociedades nacionales facilitaron los recuentos de ms del 75% del nmero
total de 31.000 cirujanos plsticos.
A pesar de que los intervalos de confianza cambian por intervencin y
pas en funcin del tamao de la muestra y de la varianza de la respuesta
de cada uno la encuesta de esta investigacin tiene un porcentaje de
error de +/- 4,24% con un nivel de confianza del 95%.

Finalfigureshavebeenprojectedtoreflectinternationalstatisticsandarebasedexclusively
ontheestimatednumberofPlasticSurgeonsineachcountry.WhereastheU.S.basedstudy
fundedbytheAmericanSocietyofAestheticPlasticSurgeryincludesBoardCertifiedPlastic
Surgeons, Dermatologists, and Otolaryngologists, this International Survey focused entirely
onboardcertified(ornationalequivalent)PlasticSurgeons.
Toaidintallyingtheworldwidenumberofplasticsurgeons,representativesfromNational
Societies provided the counts for over 75% of the 31,000 total estimated plastic surgeons.
ForcasesinwhichtheNationalSocietydidnotprovideitscountrystotal,anestimatewas
given by an international organization that maintains a list of surgeon counts by country.
Forcountriesinwhichnoestimatewasavailable,aregressionequationwasusedtopredict
the number of plastic surgeons in the country based on its population size and Gross
DomesticProduct.(Thismethodaccountedforlessthan2.5%oftheestimatedtotal.)
In cases where a country received an insufficient survey response, projections were based
onrespondentsofthecountryscontinent.
Though the confidence intervals change by procedure and by country depending on the
samplesizeandresponsevarianceofeachtheoverallsurveyportionofthisresearchholds
astandarderrorof+/4.24%ata95%levelofconfidence.
