Introduction
From the cellular phone to the desktop, the web browser has become a ubiquitous piece
of software in modern computing devices. These same browsers have become
increasingly complex over the years, not only parsing plaintext and HTML, but images,
videos and other complex protocols and file formats. Modern complexities have brought
along security vulnerabilities, which in turn attracted malware authors and criminals to
exploit the vulnerabilities and compromise end-user systems.

Objectives

This paper attempts to show and compared the current posture and also advantage and
disadvantage of two major Internet browsers: Google Chrome and Microsoft Internet
Explorer.

Details of Internet Browsers

Google Chrome
Google, Inc. develops the Google Chrome web browser. Google released the first stable
version of Chrome on December 11, 2008. Chrome uses the Chromium interface for
rendering, the WebKit layout engine and the V8 Java Script engine. The components of
Chrome are distributed under various open source licenses.
Microsoft Internet Explorer
Microsoft develops the Internet Explorer (formerly Microsoft Internet Explorer and
Windows Internet Explorer, commonly abbreviated IE or MSIE) web browser.
Microsoft released the first version of Internet Explorer on August 16, 1995. Internet
Explorer is installed by default in most current versions of Microsoft Windows, and
components of Internet Explorer are inseparable from the underlying operating system.
Microsoft Internet Explorer and its components are closed source applications.

Comparison Between Google Chrome and Internet Explorer

According to most internet users, Google Chrome is definitely the leading browser in
term of speed, features, and support for new standards. However, to not to lose,
Microsoft company also release their latest and upgraded, version of Internet Explorer;
Internet Explorer 11 (released March 2013). But, even though it is the latest version
released, it still cannot compete with Google Chrome. To see it more clearly, below are
the list of comparison between the two browsers ;
i ) The main (and most noticeable) difference is Google Chrome is developed by Google
while Internet Explorer is from Microsoft.
ii ) Google Chrome is less vulnerable to malware attacks than Internet Explorer is.
iii ) Each tab in Chrome is a different CPU process, meaning if flash or a page crashes,
just that tab crashes. It doesn't bring down the whole browser while Internet Explorer
has the same CPU process to the entire tab which brings down the whole browser if a
page crashed.
iv ) Google Chrome is faster than Internet Explorer, Chrome is lighter and is built on a
new layout engine that is updated regularly.

v ) . Internet Explorer is from Windows and is installed on every new Windows PC,
Google Chrome is from Google and frees to download online.

Phishing filter: This is
probably one of the biggest
pluses of IE, because
phishing represents a huge
security problem for
internet users
Cache: Internet Explorer
has a peculiar cache of
visited websites that can be
found in your temporary
internet files folder giving
you quicker access to
previously visited pages
and the ability to view them
while offline.the browser

Rapid development:
Newer version of Chrome
is released every six
months and all users are
automatically updated to it.
Have standards support :
(HTML5, CSS3): better
web apps.

Have the ability to ''sync''

computers: (bookmarks,
extensions, etc.)

ADVANTAGES

Private Browsers: You

may browse the internet
without being logged using
Chrome's new private
feature: Incognito.

Support: Unlike other

browser, Internet Explorer
supports specific
frameworks like ActiveX
and VB support which are
essential to applications
that range from e-learning
simulators to web-based
accounting programs which
are important to many
businesses sites.

GOOGLE CHROME
If you accidently close the
browser, Chrome will close
all the tabs opened without
warning.

INTERNET EXPLORER
Speed: Its considered as
one of the slowest browsers
compared to other web
browsers like Firefox and
Chrome
Customization: IE has
fewer options compared to
other web browsers, like
Firefox for example. You
dont have a lot of choices
to customize your privacy
settings.
Unsecure: Exposed to
hackers.
Unsuitable for Mac :
Cannot be used on Mac

Often renders CSS

incorrectly, causing splits
in the pages.

DISADVANTAGE

Seems to have trouble with

certain websites
Chrome uses up a lot of
memory (RAM) when
running it.

Summary, Conclusion & Suggestion

Google Chrome is definitely the best selection for users since it has almost all users
need; speed, features, and support for new standards; although lacking some parts.
Compared to Internet Explorer, there are more trusted elements to it, for example, less
vulnerable to networks attacks which is the most important to network users. So, it is
much recommended to use Google Chrome than Internet Explorer.
