bahasa Inggris pada kesempatan kali ini akan membahas
mengenai sebuah contoh percakapan bahasa Inggris
tentang Preferences (pilihan atau kesukaan). Tentunya
teman-teman pernah mengalami suatu moment dalam
hidup ketika harus memilih diantara satu diantara dua
pilihan. Nah pada kesempatan kali ini penulis mencoba
untuk memberikan contoh dialog percakapan yang
tentunya di dalamnya menggunakan ungkapan-ungkapan

Go to Market with Mom


Sania : Mom, where are you going?
Mom : I am going to Market. Do you want to come?
Sania : Of course. I love to go market with you, Mom.
Mom : Ok, would you take my bag over there?
Sania : Sure.

(On the market)


Sania : What will we buy today, Mom?
Mom : We will buy some fruits?
Sania : Wow, I like fruits.
Mom : Would you prefer mango or watermelon?
Sania : I prefer mango to watermelon.
Mom : And how about this one. Which one do you like
grapes or orange?
Sania : I like grapes, Mom.
Mom : Ok, I will buy mango and grapes today.
Sania : Yeah, thanks Mom. Do we just buy fruits today,
Mom?
Mom : No, we don't. We will buy some clothes for you.
Sania : Really Mom? I love my Mommy.
Mom : Would you rather this red long dress or this white
long skirt and shirt?

Sania : I would rather red long dress than white long skirt
and shirt.
Mom : Ok, I will buy this dress for you, Sania.
Sania : Thank you, Mom.

Contoh Dialog Preferences (Tugas Bahasa Inggris)


Wich One do you like?
One day Gilang, Nico and Martin discussed about their
plan in holiday. In the evening, they went to the Gilangs
House to talk about it.
Gilang :Nico, I have some places for our holiday.
Nico

: Okey, can you tell me?

Gilang : Listen! Jatim Park 1, Jatim Park 2, and WBL.

Martin : Heeeeeemmmm Up to you Nic, I agree with


your choice.
Nico : I think, It will be happy holiday if well go to
Jatim Park.
Gilang : Which one do you like Martin? Jatim Park 1 or
Jatim Park 2 ?
Martin : That is a difficult choice.
Gilang : I like Jatim Park 2 than Jatim Park 1. I think
Jatim park 2 is the most interesting place.
Martin : I agree with you, Gilang.
Nico

: So?? Ill follow your agreement.

Gilang : Okey, Well have Jatim Park 2 for our holiday


next week.
Martin : Yeah, and well go to there by our motor cycle.
Nico

: heeeeeeem I donthink so guys..

Martin : Whats wrong?


Gilang : Ill go to there by my car, it is better if we went
to there by my car
Nico : Would you rather, goes to there by Gilangs car
or your motor cycle, Martin?

Martin : Id rather go to there by Gilangs car than our


motor cycle, for a simplfy.
Nico : Okey guys. I think that is enough for our discussion
and I must pick up my mother in the railway station. I
think well go there at 8.00 a.m, and be on time.

Martin : See you next week, Nico.Bye.

Conditional Type Structures


Would Rather and Would Sooner

Would rather and would sooner have the same meaning as would prefer.

However, the grammar is slightly different.

I'd prefer to be rich than poor.


would prefer + to + verb (infinitive with to)

I'd rather be rich than poor.


would rather + verb (infinitive)
I'd sooner be rich than poor.
would sooner + verb (infinitive )

If we talk about things we want another person to do, then we use a past form after would
rather/sooner.
I'd rather you were rich than poor.
would rather + subject + past simple

With prefer there is no change in tense.


I'd prefer you to be rich than poor.
would prefer + subject + to + verb
