Battle success!
Congratulations to the Year 8 Battle of the Books team who successfully took second place in
this borough competition against the rest of the Richmond secondary schools. Congratulations
to the RPA team who just beat us by 2.5 points! This is the first time that Christs has made the
top two, so we are thrilled and very proud of our students. The teams were lucky enough to be
presented with their prizes and certificates by Catherine Bruton (author of We Can Be Heroes &
I Predict A Riot) who also gave them an
inspiring and energetic talk about
becoming a writer. Cakes were also eaten!

to Mr. Greenwood who has been an
incredible servant to Christs School for forty
two years. I am sure that you join me in
thanking him for his dedication, hard work
and contribution to the education of
hundreds of young people who have passed
through our gates in that time. We wish him
well for a very long and happy retirement.

We Need To Talk About Alice

This week our English & Drama Department, expertly directed by
Mr Miller, proudly put on a devised piece of immersive theatre
based on Alice in Wonderland. We Need to Talk About Alice
showed off the talents of Christs students from year 7 and
upwards. Mime, slapstick comedy, musical theatre and spoken
word came together and beautifully captured the essence of
Lewis Carrolls iconic book. It was an uplifting, anarchic and funfilled evening. Mrs Tarrant has clearly been hiding her talent under
a bushel! Thanks to Mr Miller, Mrs Brown, Mrs Hillier, Mrs Tarrant, all
the students and everyone involved for their hard work in bringing
this production to us.

Two Bespoke Sixth Form Days

We were delighted to take 3 sixth formers who want a career in either mechanical, electronic or
aeronautical engineering ona day to Portsmouth Naval Dockyard. The visit was organised for us
by a member of staff from BAE systems and comprised of being shown round by one of the
engineers who described the work at the docks, from design, to build and finally to scrap. We
were then taken on a tour of the Hunt-class minesweeper and shown the ship from an engineering
point of view, how to build in anti-shock devices, how to design a stainless kitchen that does not
have a magnetic signature, and overall how engines and systems are all maintained. It was
fascinating day and somewhat of a contrast to leave the docks via the Mary Rose museum and
HMS Victory.

Three sixth formers who are interested in taking up nursing/midwifery careers were taken on a
day of simulated learning in the community and clinical skills with 2nd year undergraduate nurses
from Kingston/St. Georges. Our students acted as Health Care Assistants, joining the nurses
going into mock-up flats and meeting patients involved in te role play. The task was to sort out
the priorities, carry out necessary care and then think about on going support for the three
different cases. In the afternoon their work was checked and they had to justify their decisions
and diagnoses. It was an interesting day for the sixth formers and gave them an insight into the
standards expected within nursing care.

Maths Challenge
Earlier this term 10 year 7 students competed in the UK Mathematics Challenge,
an annual nationwide competition in high level mathematics, where 3700 school
took part this year.
From our 10 students we were successful in winning 10 certificates - with 2
claiming Silver and 6 Bronze.
