Who are we?

We are a group of students from the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and
Information in Nanyang Technological University.
As part of our Final Year Project, we will be planning and executing a communication
campaign to address the mental well-being of secondary school teachers.
Our campaign aims to improve teachers mental health literacy and to encourage
conversations about mental health in their workplaces.

Out of sight, out of mind

Teachers in Singapore are

some of the most
hardworking in the world,
clocking 10 more hours a
week than peers overseas.

The long working hours

and heavy workload can
put teachers in a state of
poor mental health.

There is a growing number

of young professionals
suffering from burnout, of
which teachers comprise a
significant proportion.

Speak Your Mind

Open conversations about mental health can help break the culture of silence
a norm where teachers feel that the professional thing to do is to not talk about their
mental health problems.
Speak Your Mind SG wants to start these conversations by introducing the topic of
mental wellness amongst teachers.

We hope teachers will

Be aware of the prevalence

of mental health issues in
their workplace and the
relationship between good
mental health and
productivity

Know what constitutes

good mental well-being and
how to achieve this state of
mind through mental health
literacy

Use toolkits to initiate and

sustain meaningful
conversations about mental
health in their workplaces

The Solution
We appreciate the challenge that schools in Singapore face in having the
tools, resources and expertise to effectively engage and support teachers in
creating supportive and open work environments.
Thats why we came up with our Speak Your Mind campaign, in consultation with
the Health Promotion Board and Institute of Mental Health, to focus specifically on
helping schools create mentally healthy workplaces, and to provide resources and
recognition to support schools in prioritising teachers mental health.
Speak Your Mind is rooted in the insight that all of us have encountered
difficulties and stressful situations at work, but most of us learn, or are told not to
voice out, for fear of being perceived as incapable or weak. As a result, many
struggle to cope in silence every day.

How will we do this?

By creating a comprehensive toolkit.
The toolkit is more than just any old manual, it encompasses
various activities and touch points.
Digital and social media
engagement
Inspirational videos on
Youtube

Staffroom invasions
Roving exhibitions
Media Luncheon
And even more
