News and Events

Congratulations to Brent Bennett, the
UCCs recipient of the 2015 Lumen
Gentium Award, awarded to lay individuals
who exemplify the spirit of Christ as
explained by the documents of the Second
Vatican Council. Brent has been an active
member for the last six years taking on
many leadership roles and participating in a number of our ministry
groups including the University Graduates and Professionals, the
Knights of Columbus, the Finance Council, and the Development
Board. He is a Mass Coordinator, Lector, and Extraordinary
Minister of Holy Communion. He is a generous contributor of his
time, talent, and treasure. In addition to his involvement at the
UCC, he is part of the diocesan Catholic Young Adult Initiative.
His dedication and enthusiasm for his faith are a wonderful witness
for us all. Father Ed will present Brent with this award at todays
8:00 pm Mass. Congratulations!
UCC 50th anniversary gala! September 17

This year is the 50th Anniversary

of the UCCs current building and
location across from campus. We
will host a special celebration
event to commemorate this
milestone on Thursday,
September 17, 2015.

The evening will begin with a short celebration Mass followed by a

cocktail hour at the UCC, which will then be followed by dinner
and a special reception next door at the AT&T Center. Former
Austin news anchor Judy Maggio will be our evenings MC as we
honor Alan Graham of Mobile Loaves and Fishes and Msgr. Louis
Pavlicek with the Fr. Dave OBrien Award.
We are currently selling dinner tables and raffle tickets.
Tables are available at four sponsorship levels, ranging from $1,500
to $10,000. More information about tables sponsorships can be
found on our website at utcatholic.org/50years. Raffle tickets are
$10 each. So far the raffles prizes include a UT Football Tailgate
Package, three opportunities to win a personalized and signed
copy of Admiral Bill McRavens biography, and a life-sized image
of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
The raffle drawing will take place the evening of the celebration
during dinner, but you may still purchase raffle tickets and win
prizes if you do not attend the reception.

A Word from Our Ministry Team

Update & Prayers for Father Ed

As many of you are aware, on May 19th I had a

bump removed from my left forearm which
turned out to be a Sarcoma Cancer tumor. Subsequent scans for other tumors have been clear.
The 25 days of radiation treatment on the left forearm are over,
and the next step will be surgery to remove all the area that was
radiated and replace the skin with skin from my thigh. The surgery
will be on August 6th at St. Davids Hospital, and I am told I may
be in the hospital for a week, and that I should not schedule
anything for at least a month after surgery.
As I did not get home to Pittsburgh earlier in the summer as
planned, I will travel there on July 28th and return August 3rd
with my mom and my brother, Paul. Paul will return to Pittsburgh
on August 8th but my brother Tom will arrive on August 7th and
be with my mom and me until August 16th.
I am hoping to be back to work by September, but we will have to
see how quickly the arm and leg heal. I will keep you informed as
to my progress as best I can. Thank you for your prayersyou will
be in mine.
Blessings and Prayers,
Fr. Ed Nowak, CSP
Director

Courtneys last day today!

Fr. Isaac Hecker Quote

As this movement does not suppose any change
in the teaching or the worship of the Church,
neither does it anticipate a miraculous
interposition or action on the part of the Holy
Spirit.
[On the Mission of New Religious
Communities, 1876]
If you have asked Fr. Hecker to pray for you or for
Fr. Isaac Hecker, Founder
another person who was ill, and you believe something
of the Paulist Fathers
miraculous has happened, call Fr. Paul Robichaud,
CSP, at (202) 269-2519 and tell him your story.

Prayer Intentions
Paulist Plunge Please pray!

This week the Paulist Fathers will be

hosting nine men at St. Marys on the
Lake, the Paulist summer residence in
Lake George, NY, for the annual
Paulist Plunge. This week will be an
experience of community life, prayer,
recreation, and discernment. Many Paulist seminarians have told us
the Paulist Plunge was instrumental in their vocational discernment.
Please pray this week for all those gathered at Lake George and all
who are contemplating a Paulist vocation. Thank you!
Please pray for:

Pope Francis & Bishop Joe
