Law students demand

The faculty of law is one of the
most prestigious law institutes
in this country, but off late
nothing seems to be going in its
way. The once glorious institute
finds itself in murky waters.
The faculty despite having all

cell that could find jobs for its
fresh graduates. What young
people need is jobs, for as they
say that could be more danger-
ous than a graduate with a gun.

is no misuse of it but there is

been accumulated under it.

Well we know that University
has the right to charge little
amount as fees to the students
along with the funds it receive
from the Central Govt. But Team

interesting fact. Every year Uni-
versity charges students ”Tour
Fee”, especially of professional
courses( we Mass Comm. Stu-
dents also paid Rs.400 each as
Tour Fee) and collect around Rs.

MCI threatens to de-
recognize JNMC
Our medico friends at JNMC are
at the receiving end again and
this time it is Medical Council of
India threatening to derecognize
our very prestigious medical

college. Few days back the Medi-
cal Council of India issued show-
cause notices to 11 Medical Col-
lege authorities, threatening them
with de-recognition for failing to
adhere to MCI norms despite re-
peated warnings. These 11 col-
leges, which have two months to
rectify their shortcoming or else
get de-recognised, have among
them over 1,300 MBBS
seats. MASS 2009 smells a lot of
politics involved in it and only
expect that AMU adm. shall leave
no stone unturned to protect the
career of our friends at JNMC.

Mamata’s grand agenda

a clutch of banks.
Gone with a whim
Let me begin with a short story before
we delve any further into our discus-
sion. Once upon a time there were
two five star hotels in Mumbai, one
named Airport centaur and the other
named Juhu centaur, both were sold
to two private firms. While the Air-
port hotel was brought by Batra Hos-
pitality Private Ltd for Rs.83 crores.
The Juhu one was brought by Tulip
Hospitality Services Private Ltd for
Rs.153 crores. It may sound a bit fool-
ish, but I must add that Batra hospi-
tality was owned by Amrit Lal Batra,
an industrialist who is rather close to
the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh,
[RSS] and KS Sudharshan. The Tulip
Hospitality was owned by one Ajit B.
Kerkar who was the “buyer and the
seller at the same time”. He was actu-
ally at the executive board of the Air
India which owned the hotel. Now
another fact that will complete this
short story is that the value of the
Juhu Hotel was around 220- 245
Crores, as reported by Mr.
Chidambaram to the Lok Sabha on
4th May, 2003 and the Airport hotel
was resold to Sahara Group at 115
Crores by Batra within four months
of its purchase. Every story that has a

may not be in a position to afford the

“chosen ones” and lessen the burden
of the Government. The railways carry
almost 17 million people daily from
one place to another. As per the vision
document 2020 the railways wants to
expand its network by another 25000
kms. But may I respectfully, inform
Madam, that, its a futile effort because
once you privatise railways it would be
out of question for the majority to use
it.
If you have studied economics you
must have studied the famous “trigger
effect”. As of now, the railways carry
almost 20% of the goods that we use
directly or indirectly. It is simple, the
prices of these goods will rise in the
long run since the only mantra the
private sector knows by heart is
PROFIT. The transportation charges
would shot up and so would the prices
of our shaving creams, newspapers,
vegetables, milk, toys etcetera. One of

the major agenda of the “neo-
liberal” reforms is to privatise the
resources essential to the very sur-
vival of people. Water, electricity,
railways, education, banking, for-
ests, soil, air waves all are up for
sale. In future only those who can
pay will use these resources, the
rest will die, but who cares man!
Let them die, this world is meant
for the rich; be rich or else go to
the ditch. Would you mind if I tell
you another point, form the prole-
tariat’s point of view, (can’t control
the socialist within me). Indian
railways is the largest service pro-
vider in this country, at present it
employs 1.55 million people. If
tomorrow the railways is privatised
then as many as 7-8 lakhs of work-
ers would get unemployed. Once
you have a private master, he will
certainly “trim” his work force to
enhance his profit, even if it leads
to starvation of few lakhs. ( In eco-
nomics this is what we call improv-
ing the competitiveness of the
firm) Privatise the railways and you
have privatised the soul of this na-
tion. If this is what independence
means I would prefer slavery....

the railways, but this time not in
quelling a people’s revolt but in
fomenting it, in abetting it.

Where are the GEC
FUNDs?
Admission Committee at its 50th
meeting passed an order to
charge Rs. 50 to all the students
for literary & cultural pro-
gramme organized by the GEC.
MASS 2009 also got to know
that Rs.1,73,610 had been real-
ized till October,2009 under this
head and its remain unspent till
date. GEC Coordinator stated to
its members that he has not re-
ceived this fund yet from the
Students Section and still spend-
ing the from the same budget.
However due to this, the respec-
tive Conveners & Secretaries of
the GEC clubs are facing prob-
lem in materializing their new
ventures. UFC Convener Md.
Mukhlis said to MASS 2009, “ In
the last few sessions we are organiz-
ing national events like never before
on the line of IIT’s and other reputed
Central Universities but in fraction
of their budget. We are thankful to
the Vice-Chancellor that he in-
creased the budget of GEC by charg-
ing students Rs.50 extra for all such
activities. But this is pity that when
we need that amount its not in our
reach.” MASS 2009 request AMU
administration to look into this.

attention by media, is the rescue
operation started by him on in-

not terrorists.”
Kajol is excellent in acting, fight-
ing for justice for her deceased
son. The joint effort of her and
Rizwan helped them to get the

the trio( Karan Johar, Shahrukh
& Kajol) has again made the
Bollywood enough reason to
cheer and feel proud of them.
