Chapter Five The Blessed Virgin Mary

Fifth Sunday of Ordinary Time

Sexagesima Sunday
Opening Prayer

Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of the faithful and

enkindle in them the fire of Your love.
V. Send forth Your Spirit and they shall be created.
R. And You shall renew the face of the earth.

Let us pray. O God, by the light of the Holy Spirit, You

have taught the hearts of Your faithful. In the same Spirit
help us to know what is truly right and always to rejoice in
Your consolation. We ask this through Christ, our Lord.
Amen.

And after the days of her purification, according to the law
of Moses, were accomplished, they carried him to
Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord: As it is written in the
law of the Lord: Every male opening the womb shall be
called holy to the Lord: And to offer a sacrifice, according
as it is written in the law of the Lord, a pair of turtledoves,
or two young pigeons:

Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary his mother: Behold

this child is set for the fall, and for the resurrection of many
in Israel, and for a sign which shall be contradicted; 35
And thy own soul a sword shall pierce, that, out of many
hearts, thoughts may be revealed. Luke 2:22-24, 34-35

Then he brought me back to the outer gate of the sanctuary,
facing the east; but it was closed. He said to me: This gate is
to remain closed; it is not to be opened for anyone to enter by
it; since the LORD, the God of Israel, has entered by it, it
shall remain closed. Only the prince may sit down in it to eat
his meal in the presence of the LORD. He must enter by way
of the vestibule of the gate, and leave by the same way.

Pray to Your Mother
"All generations will call me blessed": "The
Church's devotion to the Blessed Virgin is
intrinsic to Christian worship." The Church
rightly honors "the Blessed Virgin with
special devotion. From the most ancient
times the Blessed Virgin has been honored
with the title of 'Mother of God,' to whose
protection the faithful fly in all their dangers
and needs. . . . This very special devotion . . .
differs essentially from the adoration which
is given to the incarnate Word and equally to
the Father and the Holy Spirit, and greatly
fosters this adoration." The liturgical feasts
dedicated to the Mother of God and Marian
prayer, such as the rosary, an "epitome of the
whole Gospel," express this devotion to the
Virgin Mary. CCC 971
Catholics Worship Mary*
We offer Mary Hyper-dulia, but offer Latria only to her God
She is the Mediatrix of Graces, so we ask her intercession with the
One who can give us Graces
If we think that our friends can be effective in praying for us, how
much more effective a “prayer warrior” would the Lord's mother be?
We do not worship her, we venerate her.

The Really Bad Side Effect

He knowing that the children should not be his, when he went in to

his brother's wife, spilled his seed upon the ground, lest children
should be born in his brother's name. And therefore the Lord slew
him, because he did a detestable thing. Gen 38:9-10
