The EMERALD STAR NEWS Inc.

The Wolfes Den

Hello once again as we meet in heat of summer, theres
always things going on around here in Freeport. Some
folks have come back only after 2 years and noticed the
amount of people around the Freeport area.
If youre a visitor, we WELCOME you here to this beautiful place some of have come
to call home. There are transitions taking place within the Laws of the state and what old
and out dated Laws we have on record in Walton County. Changes are taking place. People will be fined if situations not properly corrected in 30 days along Hwy. 331.
As you may have noticed we have a little road work going on. Its the largest project
currently underway in the entire state of Florida. Ive several rumors about taxing us until
its complete? Can someone send me the details of that? We voted, I thought it was settled. Would it not be illegal to continue to collect on something that has already been
designated an agreement with the County? We are checking back on what Rick Scott
recently said. Check our website, always daily news bites.
Im sure those of you who know me, see how tough it is to do all I have to do to make
this newspaper happen. Design, material, layout, writing, editing, formatting and then of
course delivering to you, my potential customers. Is it really too much to ask for? For
$50 /mo. To let visitors know where you are in FREEPORT? Or are you just going to
let those businesses along Hwy. 331 come in and take you out? There are no signs,
whats down Hwy. 20? Only this newspaper sits at both corners of the 331&20 intersection. I turn close to 500 copies in that area for the visitors to see. Where are you standing
with a sign to come eat at Tjs? Freeport Caf, Hungry Howies? New restaurant across
from Clary-Glenn? Wouldnt you desire to become a place visitors remember for a good
meal and stop place for a long time? You do realize that we have had this newspaper
going close to eight years now? How many other businesses lasted that long in FREEPORT? People, Im ready to add 4 more pages, please help us out. Hey Nicks how do
people know where or why to make the trip to Destin coming your way? Maybe you
would get more entries from locals if youd advertise your tournaments with us. Maybe?
Lets make Freeport a town to stop and eat, relax and so on. Do you see signs to come
your way towards the City Hall? I dont see any at all. The only thing that visitors will
pick-up while standing in Freeport, The Emerald Star News. Its FREE..so again, I say
is it not worth $50/mo to advertise with us? Go larger I got specials on full pages too.
What about Clary-Glenn jumping back on board with us again? The newspaper itself
solely survives from our advertisers and your word of mouth.
I guess some of you may know already but when we mentioned the possibility of having I-10 south Hwy. 331 being a scenic corridor on the north side of the bridge since the
south side of it already is considered that. The person who owns Silver Sands outlet Mall
wants the entire Hwy. 331 to become scenic corridor all the way to the Alabama state
line? It would be a nice drive through our long county. However just think. Would we
get more or less as property value increase, but so wouldnt our taxes to maintain such a
median? Then what I found was there is a 75 setback from it. I dont think the lot sizes
around here and North Walton would benefit from that clause. So, if you here of anything our if youd like to post a comment. Just E-mail me anytime.
As most of you noticed something missing in our newspaper since the start of the year
Mr. Dees at WZEP refused us the right to use any of his news. Why? I dont know, but
here we are 7 months later, they didnt run me off. As long as I keep receiving so many E
-mails people liking my newspaper, I will continue to keep faithful to my readers as best
as I have been. I tell you all, the good, the not so good..and yes, we discovered some
bad too. As a matter of fact, that reminds me I run into so many familiar faces around
town and in most cases people introduce themselves and we discuss a topic or a suggestion for a story. I like that stuff, good debates. Forum material, yet no one listens?
Problem being, is that these people telling me this information (which by the way is several people that I have as resources, not just one). So ease off your money ways of bullying and scare tactics and let some these folks alone. These people have lived here as a child and you now want to
have them fear you for your greed of power and or money thinks you can do what you want? Get
this, these people also have grandkids and future generations they want to see take over when they
are dead and gone. If they mentioned the Coyote Landfill or even the word Landfill, people stop
talking. They know when it was dug out and what it was agreed upon and was supposed to be, even
with a liner to help contain the diseases from it. Look at it now?
So, just as I have been complaining about neighbor and how my neighbors feel about this person
at the entrance of our road being ignored. Not zoned for this, needs to be removed. Think back at
the Land that Walton Recovery has along Hwy. 331. I was at that meeting. They said they wanted
to use it for 5-15 day storage of a few towed vehicles? Has not one EPA or Code or even the state
questioned this now 2-3 acre junkyard of vehicles stacked upon each other exactly, a junk yard?
Now the Hwy. is higher than the fence he put up out front, who is going to have the debris removed for it is there illegally as well. Im certain no certification would OK these liquids dumping
and the eye sore it is. Would they? Are you Walton County going to ignore the inevitable of cleaning of zoning area. What your next great idea? Grandfather it in for it had been like that

about 10yrs now? Thats what you said about setback violators, less than 1 yr ago. Just
like any place else, when I see action, I believe it more. Too many rumors and lies to sift
through around here. People are not trustworthy, some are, but rare to find. Thank you.

12-Year-Old Boy Challenges

Obama: 'My Generation
Deserves Answers'
A 12-year-old boy has become a YouTube sensation
with a challenge to President Barack Obama about the
future of the country.
I want to talk to you
about your vision for
this nation, Coreco
"CJ" Pearson says in
the video addressing
the president.
I also want to talk
about my vision for
my generation with
you," he stated.
"Because like you, I
want to give my generation some change that they can
believe in, Mr. President. I want to give them a future
that they can count on.
Pearson said he wants to engage in a "meaningful discussion" with Obama about the country's future.
"My generation deserves answers and they deserve a
future, he stated. "I will do whatever it takes to fight
for that future."
Pearson appeared on "Fox and Friends Weekend" this
morning (watch above) to discuss his latest viral video
and how he would question Obama.
"My questions would be quite direct, quite straightforward," Pearson said. "I wouldn't stick to the softballs,
because I believe if he's going to be the leader of the
free world he deserves to be questioned appropriately."
Pearson also shared what he thinks about Hillary Clinton.
"She's one of the most narcissistic, self-centered politicians to this day," he stated. "She's plagued with
scandal and does not deserve to be a candidate for the
White House. What I would rather say is that she deserves to be a candidate for the federal penitentiary."
****Watch the video on Youtube, this kid gets valid
questions and some harsh remarks to the president.
Sure, most presidents never have the the time to answer any or if any letters or video responses that are
sent his way. But more youth need to think of 10yrs.
I think that more kids this age should be informed
with the facts of reality. Why not? Good and Bad,
dont sugar coat a country with an insane mindset has
nuclear capabilities, dont sugar coat that this year in
Chicago alone they are averaging 14 deaths of young
black folks in inner city gangs. Isis is a real threat,
know where your kids are every night and day.

Heartburn Meds and Health Risks

Millions of Americans have used heartburn medications called proton
pump inhibitors to help ease pain and discomfort after they eat. But does
that help come at a price?
A recent study found that the drugs, also known as PPIs, are linked to a
higher heart attack risk. Theyve been tied to other health problems as
well. PPIs in the study included esomeprazole (Nexium), lansoprazole
(Prevacid), omeprazole (Prilosec, Zegerid), and others. They're available
by prescription and over the counter, and both account for $13 billion in
sales worldwide. They reduce the amount of acid your stomach makes.
That acid can cause a burning pain or discomfort in your chest, along
with a bitter taste in your mouth.
The medicines may also treat ulcers and prevent damage to the esophagus caused by reflux. WebMD turned to two experts and asked them to
put the new study and previous research in perspective.
What exactly did the study look at and find?
Researchers looked at medical records representing nearly 3 million
people. Some were taking PPIs and others were taking another type of
heartburn medicine, H2 blockers: cimetidine (Tagamet), famotidine
(Pepcid), nizatidine (Axid), or ranitidine (Zantac). No one had a history
of heart disease. Those who used the PPIs were more likely to have a
heart attack than those who did not take the drugs, the researchers reported.
No similar link was found with H2 blockers. The researchers found only
a link between PPIs and heart attacks, though -- they cant prove that
PPIs actually raise the heart attack risk. Earlier research found PPIs can
harm blood vessel lining. That finding led researchers to study if the
drugs were linked to a higher risk for heart attack.
"Based on the study, they would estimate the increased risk of a heart
attack is about 16%," says Brian Lacy, MD, PhD, section chief of gastroenterology and hepatology at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center.
He was not involved in the study.
The 16% increased risk ''sounds big, very large," Lacy says. "However,
you have to put that in perspective of how many heart attacks actually
occur. "I think the real message here is, if there is a relationship -- which
I am not convinced about -- the effect is very small," Lacy says. Does
the risk depend on how long you take the drug? "We can't tell from
this study," Lacy says. "We don't know whether it's the length of time
on the PPI, the dose, or some other variable." Were these medicines
meant to be used long-term? People who take prescription PPIs usually stay on them for 6 months, the FDA says. Over-the-counter PPIs are
meant to be used for 14 days and only up to three times a year. But doctors say some people stay on them much longer. If you feel a need that

Donald Trump Threatened

by Sinaloa Drug Cartel
Leader
Donald Trump, the infamous American industrialist
and Republican presidential hopeful, could end up
with his head on a stick before making it too far down
the road to the White House. On Monday, Trump reportedly called in the forces of the Federal Bureau of
Investigation to probe into a recent Twitter threat by
Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman, the cutthroat-in-chief of
the Sinaloa Cartel, who tunneled his way out of a high
-level security prison over the weekend just outside of
Mexico City.
Since declaring his pursuit for the Republican nomination, Trump has not gone out of his way to make any
friends along the campaign trail, most recently chastising Mexican immigrants for being a scourge of
criminals and drug dealers that migrate to the Land of
the Free to perpetuate the black market drug trade and
rape American women. The billionaire also suggested
that corrupt Mexican officials were responsible for
facilitating El Chapos Hollywood jailbreak, and that
it could be another 13 years, if at all, before the kingpin is back in custody.
These comments, apparently, struck a war nerve
within the notorious dope slinging fugitive. On Sunday, a Twitter account under the name Joaquin
Guzman Loera unleashed a furious message against
Trump that suggests his life could be in jeopardy if he
continues to spew his loud-mouth rhetoric against the
Sinaloas.
"Keep screwing (with us) and I'm going to make you
eat your fucking words you lousy white fa88ot," wrote
@ElChap0Guzman.
Although no one has yet been able to confirm the authenticity of the drug lords Twitter handle, Mexican
officials told Reuters the conveyed message was
probably written by an imposter.
However, a statement issued earlier this week by a
Trump assistant suggests that not only is Donny taking the threat seriously, but he is also running scared
and seeking peace of mind with the help of the federal
investigators. And, the truth is, we cant say that we
blame him.
The Sinaloas are one of the most vicious cartels in
the history of narcotic warfare, maintaining a heavy
presence in the United States, especially with consideration to the illegal methamphetamine and heroin
trade. In February, just six months before El Chapo
made his escape, the Chicago Crime Commission and
the Chicago chapter of the Drug Enforcement Administration deemed the Mexican cartel boss Public Enemy Number 1 a well-deserved titled considering
law enforcement is holding the Sinaloas responsible
for a large percentage of the recorded 425 murders
across the city in 2014.
A report published today by the Associated Press
finds the DEA was fully aware that El Chapo was
planning to break out of prison, warning Mexican
officials of potential operations to free Guzman

Greetings from the Mayors Office

I would like to begin this post about the fact that the city/county pool has been
closed for the past week due to maintenance being done and will remain closed
until I give further notice for it to open. I have read different allegations about
the pool and myself concerning its safety and the closing of the pool. Let me
be first to state that the safety for everyone at the pool is of the citys utmost
importance and that while everyone may not agree with the operation of the
pool, that it is in the best interest of all concerned. For those of you who make
your comments I would like to invite you to come to a council meeting and
learn how the process works as far as decisions being made on whatever the
subject matter is and the hiring and firing of employees etc., after viewing

the United States. In the email leaks that took place over last weekend, several U.S. agencies voiced whether the implementation of this spy ware would be legal on American soil. Because of this, the DEA said it was simply opting to employ to program in foreign lands where it would be less problematic. Yet, considering the underhanded

Grand jury planning to investigate
Walton County planning department

Healthmark Health Matters

It was told that a grand jury was impaneled Monday to take a hard look at
the Walton County Planning Department and the way it has been managed
for the last 15 years. State Attorney Bill Eddins said he will present evidence
the week of Aug. 24.
Theyll be looking at areas of concern I have regarding the Planning Department of Walton County and the management of the Planning Department
over the last several years, Eddins said.
The State Attorneys Office and the Walton County Sheriffs Office have
been investigating the county Planning Department since February, Eddins
said. Agents have pored over hundreds of documents, many of which have
raised questions, he said.
The areas of concern go back many years, Eddins said, to before a 2005
mistake resulted in the departments failure to collect the great majority of
a $600,000 recreational fee from developers of Lakeside at Blue Mountain
Beach.
The grand jury will examine evidence from 2000 right up to the present day,
Eddins said. A document discussing the uncollected $600,000 was included
in a batch of evidence that prompted the Sheriffs Office and State Attorneys Office to open their investigation, Eddins said.
He declined to provide details of findings other than the unaccounted for
$600,000. Eddins said his office will not be seeking indictments when it
goes to the grand jury, but added that the investigation continues.
Its even possible the grand jury will take the initial information it receives
and decide to expand the scope of the inquiry, Eddins said.

Healthy aging is important for everybody. No matter how young and healthy a person may
be today, one day they will face the same issues as seniors do now. Whether it concerns
weight gain, mobility or chronic diseases, the key to healthy aging is a healthy lifestyle. Eating a variety of healthy foods, practicing portion control and enjoying regular physical activity can go a long way toward promoting healthy aging. It is never too late to make healthier
lifestyle choices.
However, according to researchers at Mayo Clinic, anyone considering anti-aging therapies
such as restrictive diets, supplements or expensive treatments claiming to postpone or even
reverse the aging process, should be cautious. There's no quick fix for healthy aging, so beware suspicious schemes that sound too good to be true. They usually are.
One way to age gracefully is to prevent slips and falls. As we get older, physical changes
and health conditions can make falls more likely. In fact, falls are a leading cause of injury
among older adults. Still, fear of falling does not need to rule a persons life.
Start by making an appointment with a physician skilled in occupational medicine, especially if you have fallen before. That doctor can review your medications for side effects and
interactions that may increase the risk of falling and may consider reducing certain medications, such as sedatives and some types of antidepressants.
Certain eye and ear disorders may increase the risk of falls. Tell your physician if you feel
any dizziness, joint pain, numbness or shortness of breath when you walk.
Fortunately, regular physical activity can go a long way toward fall prevention. With a doctor's approval, consider gentle activities such as walking, water workouts in a pool or some
type of easy aerobic exercise that involves slow and graceful movements. Such activities
reduce the risk of falls by improving strength, balance, coordination and flexibility.
Consider footwear as part of a fall-prevention plan. High heels, floppy slippers and shoes
with slick soles can make a person slip, stumble and fall. Walking in stocking feet or socks is
also dangerous. Instead, wear properly fitting, sturdy shoes with nonskid soles.
Finally, look around the house. Rooms, hallways and stairways can be filled with hazards.
Consider handrails in these areas. Remove boxes, newspapers, electrical cords and phone
cords from walkways. Move coffee tables, magazine racks and plant stands from high-traffic
areas. Secure loose rugs with double-faced tape, tacks or remove them altogether. Repair
loose floorboards and carpeting and always use nonslip mats in the bathtub or shower.
Some solutions are easy and relatively inexpensive. Others may require professional help,
but remember - an investment in fall prevention is an investment in ones own independence.
To make an appointment with an occupational medicine specialist, contact Dr. Mark Hash
at Healthmark Walk-In Clinic at (850) 951-4556.

Theres No Place like Home

By Rian Lyday
If you go anywhere, even paradise,
you will miss your home.
-Malala Yousafzai
We have been traveling all summer, most of the time
spent with my niece during her chemo treatments, and
let me tell you, there is no place like Walton county.
Yes, I love traveling and seeing the world through my
sons eyes, but I love to be home even more. While in
Orlando for a teacher conference, this topic came up.
We were staying at the swanking Ritz Carlton, surrounded by down-town Orlando, and all we could talk
about was how much we love where we live. My family
is a relatively new addition to the Walton county area,
this is our 4th year here, but I could not feel more at
home and long more for a place, then when I am gone.
What makes us that way? I use to be happiest when
skipping all over the world and looking for new adventuresnow I would rather do anything I can to live in
the four walls of my house on the weekends. I think it
has to do with finding where you belong, a place you
feel safe, a place where you can let down all pretenses
and lounge in your comfy clothes (I know you all have
them). When I walked in my house after being gone for
roughly a month, all I wanted to do was lay down and
enjoy the place that we call home. Walton county is a
place that still teaches children to say mam and sira
place where the local caf asks about your child by
namea place where people still wave, whether they
know you or not. Thank you Walton county, for giving
my family a place where I dont worry about things like
school shootings or leaving my car unlocked. Yes, I
know that this is not true in every square of our county
but look at the statistics, life is good here. Enjoy where
you live and work to keep it a place people want to
come home to. Think about one small thing you can do
differently to help keep out the chaos that the rest of our
country faces. Appreciate your neighbor and tell them
you do every once in a while. For now, I am still clicking my ruby flip-flops and chanting, theres no place
like home..
