Safety
This machine has been designed for the processing and handling of X-ray films, and should only be used
for this purpose.
The machine must only be operated by qualified personnel who has been instructed about the machine
operation.
Make sure that the machine can be monitored constantly in order to avoid inappropriate handling,
especially by children.
Repairs must only be made by trained service personnel and only personnel authorized by the
manufacturer is allowed to make changes on the machine.
If there is visible damage to the machine casing, the machine must not be started or used at all.
If the machines are connected to other devices, components, or assemblies and it cannot be
determined from the technical data whether the combination with these devices, components, or
assemblies is associated with hazards, consult the respective manufacturers or a technical expert to
ensure that there is no danger for operating personnel and the environment from the intended
combination.
Do not override or disconnect the integrated safety features.
Switch off the machine before performing maintenance work or repairs. Disconnect the machine from
the mains before making repairs or performing any maintenance activities during which live electrical
components may become exposed and could be touched accidentally.
Like all technical equipment, the machine must be properly operated, and cared for and serviced
correctly and in regular intervals.
If the machine is not operated correctly, or if it is not serviced correctly, the manufacturer is not liable
for any resulting disturbances, damages, or injuries.
When installing the machine, make sure that there is either a mains plug or an all-pole disconnecting
device in the internal installation fitted near the machine and that it is easily accessible.
If you notice conspicuous smoke or noise, disconnect the machine immediately.
Special instructions for processors and for the handling of chemicals
When handling chemicals, observe the current safety and environmental regulations as well as the
operating and warning instructions enclosed with the chemicals.
The disposal of chemicals and waste water must be in compliance with the local regulations concerning
waste water and environmental protection.
Wear stipulated protective clothing and safety goggles.
If chemicals get into your eyes, immediately rinse your eyes with cold water and then consult a
physician.
Do not inhale chemical fumes. Make sure that there is sufficient ventilation at the installation site, i.e. an
air exchange that is at least ten times the space volume per hour.
Always comply with installation instructions.
Regularly check all components of the machine for tightness.
If liquid gets inside the machine (due to spilling), disconnect the machine immediately from the mains,
and have the device thoroughly cleaned by the technical service.

System overview
The system requires the following components which must be considered during planning:
Film processor
Chemical mixer or replenisher tanks for developer and fixer
Water connection via water filter
Disposal tanks or connection to the centralized disposal system
Depending on the customers' requirements the film processor can be combined with additional
equipment.
Consider the respective planning instructions for the required configuration (e.g. mixer).

Transport path
It must be possible to transport the film processor through all hallways and doors up to the
installation site.
The smallest door width must be at least 68 cm (without packaging material).
(For machines with packaging material it must be at least 80 cm.)

Free space as shown in the drawing must be reserved for repair and maintenance.
The minimum space indicated in the drawing must always be observed.
Not enough free space around the machine may result in longer repair times.

Radiation effects
The film processor has not been designed for the installation in the
X-ray room, i.e. there is no internal screening against scattered radiation;
if necessary the screening must be fitted subsequently.

Ventilation
Provide for sufficient air circulation in order to keep the concentration of

chemical fumes low. The air exchange should be 10 times the room volume
per hour. If you have any questions on this subject please refer to your local
GE Inspection Technologies office.
Cleaning sink
A cleaning sink with water tap and hose shower should be provided for
maintenance works.
Minimum inside dimensions of the sink:

Water connection
There are two alternatives for the water connection:
a.
A rigid pipe connection from the pressure reducer installed in the floor all the way to the film
processor;
or
b.
with a high-pressure safety hose, installed openly from the pressure reducer / manometer
FU+8656001 / FU+8656002 (not included) to the film processor.
As a safety measure we recommend to provide a floor drain close to the machine.

Regulations
The free water supply of the machine is in compliance with the regulations
acc. to DIN 1988 and EN 1717.

Main switch
Upon machine installation, it must be ensured that either the mains

switch, or an all-pole disconnecting device, for the installation on site
is located close to the machine and easily accessible.
A facility to disconnect the machine from the mains in case of an
emergency must be provided in the darkroom as well as in the daylight
room!

Replenisher supply
The maximum suction height of the replenisher pump of the film processor is 2 m, the maximum
suction length is 5 m.
This must be considered if a mixer or individual tanks are used.

Replenisher level monitoring

The connection of level detectors of the individual replenisher tanks is NOT possible!

Disposal of chemicals
The disposal of chemicals and wash water must be in compliance with the regulations of the local
authorities in accordance with the current waste water law!
If it is allowed to drain the exhausted solutions into the sewer, then the drain pipe must be a
polyethylene pipe up to the main pipe (vertical drain pipe).
The installation of the disposal lines to the disposal tanks must be carried out professionally by
authorized technicians.
In Germany the installation must be in compliance with 19 WHG, DIN 1988 and EN 1717.
In other countries the corresponding national regulations must be considered.
Sufficient inclination (approx. 1 cm / m) to the disposal containers should be considered.

Installation preparations
Machine transport and reception by the customer
The freight forwarder transports the machine up to the final installation site. The responsible
technician should be present for reception.

Checking the shipment

Compare the labels on the boxes with the customer's order list and the delivery note.

Checking the safety indicators on the machine boxes

The machine is delivered on a pallet.
The box has the following indicators attached:
"TILTWATCH" indicator (A),
"SHOCKWATCH" indicator (B)
and a packaging seal (C).
They are attached to the outside of the box and indicate if the machine was tilted, exposed to
shocks, or if the box was opened during transport.

If the machine was tilted, the circle in the arrow

head of the TILTWATCH changed to red.

Check the Tiltwatch indicator inside the

machine on the machine tank on the left
side in film transport direction.
If the machine was tilted, the circle in the
arrow head of the TILTWATCH changed to
red.

If the processor is unpacked for a "TEST INSTALLATION", all packaging material must be kept. It is
always necessary to pack the machine again in the original boxes in order to avoid transport
damage and risks regarding the insurance cover (e.g. insert all transport safeguards, the
TILTWATCH indicator must not be red).

Instructions for the "Installation and Startup" routines

The sequence of the listed installation procedure depends on the following parameters:
Size of the installation room
Person doing the installation
Please check these facts and arrange the routines in the most favorable sequence for the required
installation.
Positioning and adjustment

Position the machine without the panels at the final installation site.
Insert the developer, fixer, and water racks in the machine.
Tilt the processor to the left or right respectively,
and insert sufficiently high wedges under the
processor.
Loosen the lower hexagon nut (C).

The upper hexagon nut (B) is welded on the

machine do not remove with force!
Turn the adjustable foot (A, E) for fine adjustment of
the machine.

Sleeve (D) must not be removed (minimum distance

to the floor).

Tighten the lower hexagon nut (C) only after the fine
adjustment of the machine height is completed.
A fine adjustment of the machine height should only
be made after the complete processor installation.
Measure in film transport direction by means of a
spirit level:
Place the spirit level on the upper tie-rods, left
and right hand rack side.
Adjust the height of the rear and front feet, to
ensure that the machine is level in transport
direction.
Measure crosswise to the film transport direction
by means of a spirit level.
Place the spirit level on the upper tie-rod of the
developer and water racks and adjust the feet
height on the right or on the left.
Check the adjustment in vertical and horizontal
direction, if necessary correct again.
Tighten the hexagon lock nuts.

Upon delivery, the machine is set to a mains voltage of 230 V - 240 V.

Choose the appropriate mains cable for the local plug

system from the packing box.
Connect the mains cable to the mains socket on the

machine (2).

A) High-pressure safety hose:

Screw the union nut of the high-pressure

safety hose to the water supply connection
and tighten with a pipe wrench.
Hose is not in the scope of supply

The maximum suction height of the replenisher pumps (developer or fixer pump) in the film
processor is 2 m, the maximum suction length is 5 m.

The NOVA film processor is supplied with the standard process setting 8.0, corresponding to 100
seconds of developing and fixing immersion time with a developer temperature of T = 28 C.
The process parameters of the NOVA film processor can be modified using the operation display at
the feed table.
To modify the parameter settings, recall the desired parameters with the
pressing the

1 Maintenance
Film processing systems such as the NOVA film processor film processor are, as all user
systems, exposed to various types of dirt and contamination.
A perfect film is only obtained by means of a processor which is cleaned at regular intervals.
Please find the maintenance intervals and detailed cleaning instructions below.
By carrying out regular maintenance and cleaning, the NOVA film processor film processor will
give you the desired film results.
Film Volume
Customers with a low daily film consumption (< 5 m2) should clean more often.
5 m2
= 33 films of 35 x 43 cm (14 x 17) format
= 100 films of 10 x 48 cm (3.9 x 18.9) format
Periods of Stoppage
1. After a relatively short stoppage period (1/2 hour to a few hours) it is sufficient to insert a
few cleaning films to clean the rollers of the processor.
2. After a stoppage of a few days to a week, the processor must be completely cleaned. If
necessary, contact an authorized GE Inspection Technologies service technician for this.

Drain the tanks and rinse them with water as well as rinsing the racks. If
necessary, clean the tanks and racks with cleaning chemicals. Clean the

Cleaning
The NOVA film processor does not need excessive maintenance and is specially designed
for simple and fast cleaning:
This means in practice:
Drain cocks for separate drainage of process chemicals, wash water und cleaning
products
To simplify cleaning, it is necessary for a cleaning basin with a sprayer to be in the

vicinity of the NOVA film processor (recommended dimensions: 100 x 60 x 15 cm).
IMPORTANT:
Do not use the sprayer to clean the NOVA film processor tanks. Liquid running along the
outside of the tanks may cause electrocution.
Do not use hot water when cleaning the machine tanks. (This may cause triggering of the
overheat protection.) The maximum allowed temperature is 40 C!
IMPORTANT:
Always heed the safety and environmental regulations when you handle chemicals. Also
always wear the prescribed protective clothing.

Emptying the Machine Tanks
When emptying the machine tanks, especially when cleaning, you must take the nature (pH value) of the
products into consideration. Empty the machine tanks into the waste tanks provided.

2.2
Cleaning the Transport Racks
Turn off the NOVA film processor.
Remove the machine cover.
Lift the transport racks carefully out of the tanks.
Carefully clean the racks with a soft sponge and running water. (In this way, the silver
layer that is on the rollers of the developer rack is not removed.)
When the racks are very dirty you can use special cleaning agents. Only use the
recommended cleaning agents, i.e. AGFA NDT DEVCLEAN for the developer area and
AGFA NDT FIXCLEAN for the fixer and the wash areas.
Place the racks carefully back into the corresponding tanks (observe the color codes).
IMPORTANT:
Check that the colors of the racks and tanks match:

Important:
As for photo chemicals, there are also special regulations for cleaning agents with regard to
their disposal and local regulations MUST be followed.
It is recommended that the tanks be filled before the racks are put back in place .

IMPORTANT:
Important: After cleaning with DEVCLEAN / FIXCLEAN, the racks und tanks should be thoroughly
rinsed with water.
If you use other cleaning products, we advise you to contact your local GE Inspection Technologies
representative to discuss the correct waste tank for the cleaning products.

Algae Protection
The NOVA film processor is not equipped with an anti-algae valve. To protect the device against algae the
water tank must be emptied after use.
IMPORTANT:
Please contact your local GE Inspection Technologies representative for information on the
use of additives for water tank algae protection.
2.6
Cleaning the Feed Table

(to prevent impurities or scratches on the film)
Clean the feed table with a damp sponge or lint-free cloth.
Dry the feed table.
Inspect the film surface detection:
Are the detection rollers clean?
All magnetic rollers must turn easily and evenly to ensure a correct replenishment volume (the
rollers can seize up if liquid is spilled on them).
To test the operation of the surface detection use a film strip that is approx. 35 mm wide. Move
the film back and forth under one of the 5 detection rollers to activate this roller. The OK light for film
insertion will go out. Repeat this procedure for each sensor roller.
These checks will also be carried out by a GE Inspection Technologies technician during regular
maintenance procedures.

Useful tips
Preparing replenishment liquid (diluting concentrates):The correct dilution method is

indicated on the package concerned. If you deviate from these instructions, for example, by
adding products in the wrong order or by insufficient stirring, a precipitate might develop
that will not dissolve later and could cause problems in the filters and the racks in the
machine.
Remove residues of ready-to-use chemicals from receptacles before preparing new
chemicals. They can also cause a similar precipitation. The preparation of chemicals is
easier when using the NDT MIXER (see 10.2).
Chemicals that have been diluted incorrectly must be discarded. Pour them into the
corresponding waste tanks for used chemicals. Cleaning agents can also be dumped in the
corresponding waste tanks.

Structurix Fixclean
Devclean is a highly efficient, two-part maintenance product that

thoroughly cleans the developing areas of processors and tanks
along with the accessories used for manual film development. Silver
deposits and sludge on all parts are dissolved rapidly, effortlessly,
and completely.
Fixclean is a one-part maintenance product for the fixing,

intermediate rinsing and rinsing areas of processors. It can also
be used to clean fixer tanks of mixers and manual film processing
systems.
Instructions For Use:

NOTE: Devclean, water from the developer tank, and fixer waste can
contain enough silver to recover, so Devclean should be treated for
silver recovery.
REMEMBER: never mix Fixclean and fixer waste.
1. Drain and thoroughly flush the tank, rack, and recirculation

system with clean water, removing all traces of fixer.

- add to the tank 1 liter (.25 gal) of concentrated Fixclean

with fixer waste. Used Devclean is acidic and contains silver ions
(dissolved silver).

5. An emptied Fixclean bottle should be rinsed with water, which

then can be added to the working solution in the tank.
6. Add water to fill the tank 100% while activating the recirculation
pump.

activate the recirculation pump for 10 minutes.

Always follow instructions and observe safety measures,

especially when using 100% concentrate.

concentration may be used, depending on the degree of soiling.

Electrical check
The power cord and the cables inside the machine do not show any damage.
The line fuses have the respective values.
Air filter and cooling are working.
No scorch marks or incorrect cable connections are visible.
Check all ground connections on the metal parts of the panels or frame.
Upon repairs regarding the mains voltage section the protective earth must be checked (VDE
standard). The resistance of the PE with an earthed pin connector is 0.3 , with a fixed
connection it is 0.2 (according to VDE 0702, VBG4 Edition 1997).

Safety regulations
Light tightness of the machine
The processor must not be installed in an area with direct sunlight (max. 2500 Lux).
The machine must not be opened during the operation. It is only light tight if all panels are
correctly mounted.

Cover switch
The safety cover switch must only be operated for service purposes, i.e. to run a test cycle
with open covers.
Make sure to remove the service switch before the cover is closed.

Checking the mains cable for strain relief

Condition of the insulation of power plug / plug cord.
Efficiency of the strain relief on the power cord.
Efficiency of the protective earth on metallic panels (protective earth connected or spring
contacts OK).

Repairs on printed circuit boards

For the discharge of electrostatic charges wear a grounding wrist strap
(order no. 9.9999 0830.0).
Emergency solution:If there is no grounding strap available, possible electrostatic
charges may also be discharged by touching a metal cover part
or the protective earth connection.

Die Sortimente I und M knnen dem Carstock hinzugefgt werden.
Alternativ knnen sie als eigenstndige (Koffer-) Lger bereitgehalten werden, auf die bei
einer Installation bzw. Wartung zugegriffen wird (planbare Einstze).
Technologieabhngig kann es Zusatzsortimente fr ein Gert geben, wie z.B. 50, 60 Hz- Teile.

Alle Sortimente stellen eine Startmenge dar, jeweils kalkuliert fr 1-10 Gerte.
Wir empfehlen die Mengen individuell anzupassen, in Abhngigkeit von folgenden Parametern:

Spare Parts Kits
Types of spare parts kits

The Spare parts kits are a selection of functionally important parts from the spare parts list,
recommended by the manufacturer.
Technical characteristics and contents of the spare parts kits are subject to the notification service
for technical modifications.
The following kits are available:
R
`repair`
parts required for repair
ìnstallation`
`maintenance`
`local stock`
machine specific parts for the machine installation which

are not included in the machine shipment
parts required for maintenance, including machine
specific materials and lubricants
strategically important or bulky parts which should be
kept at hand in the central warehouse
The R kit is the kit which the technician should keep in the car = car stock.
The kits I and M can be added to the car stock.
As an alternative they can also be kept as separate (suitcases) stocks, ready for access in case of an
installation or maintenance job (calls which can be planned ahead).
Depending on the technology there may be additional kits for a machine as e.g. 50, 60 Hz parts.
For order numbers for additional kits (if relevant) refer to item 5.

Quantities
All these kits represent the initially required quantities calculated for 1-10 machines.
We recommend to adapt the quantities individually, always depending on the following parameters:
Number of machines
Size of the service area to be covered
Service structure (centralized/decentralized)
Stock time and stock type
Number of maintenance contracts (this only applies to the M kit)

number but to order the individual parts according to demand.

Types de kits
Les kits comprennent des pices recommandes par le fabricant dont le fonctionnement est
important et qui ont t slectionnes dans la liste des pices dtaches.
Les caractristiques techniques et le contenu des kits de pices dtaches sont grs par le service
technique.

Le kit R est le kit que le technicien devrait avoir dans sa voiture = car stock.
Les kits I et M peuvent tre ajouts au stock de voiture.
Autre possibilit: ces kits peuvent tre conservs part, dans des valises, auxquelles il est possible
d'accder en cas d'installation ou de rvision (pour interventions prvues d'avance).
Suivant la technologie il peut y avoir des kits spciaux pour un appareil par ex. pices pour 50, 60
Hz.

Tous ces kits reprsentent les quantits requises initialement, calcules pour 1 10 machines. Nous
vous recommandons d'adapter les quantits individuellement d'aprs les paramtres suivants:

Structure du service technique (centralis/dcentralis)
Temps et type d'approvisionnement des stocks
Nombre de contrats d'entretien (n'est valable que pour le kit M)
