"What am I doing?"
We of Global Missionary Ministries are doing
this at the beginning of this new year of 2000. As
we recall happenings from the past and consid

has been true during the past four decades of

Three New Kingdom Workers

We are happy to present to you three

fine young students whom, over the past
years, we were able to encourage, as they
prepared for Christian ministry, through
GMM's Ben Bajenski Memorial Fund. All
three of these students will be graduating

from their respective Bible colleges and uni

their testimonies with you so that together
we can rejoice in their accomplishments,
and thank God for adding them as new and
valuable workers in His Kingdom.
We appreciate your help in this type of

Another exciting event in my life will

GMM, you support many individuals and
the Christian ministries that they perform.
Over the last few years it has been our
practice to help people who are conducting
an effective ministry. We choose to help
them through our prayers, encouragement

signed partnership agreement with them.
Part of the agreement specifies that they
fulfill the expressed programs of GMM. Of
course, in determining these programs we
work closely with our partners. They know
what can best be done and how to perform
their ministries in a way that will be most

have to be "ours" performed in cooperation
with our coworkers in the missionary fields
where they live and labor.
In this issue of "The Crier" you will read
about fellow Christian workers that conduct
such ministries in their homeland. GMM

plays a very important role by encouraging

these families in their ministries, praying
with them for their activities, working
together with them to come up with a work
able plan of action, and supporting them
both morally and financially. The people
written about in this issue are only some of
of the many coworkers with whom we part

2 or 3 individuals working in North America.
Its outreach extends far and wide including

SIX NEW CHURCHES

Several months ago we announced that

GMM was involved in organizing a Church
Planting Mission in Poland. Today we are
happy to inform you that this project is now
a reality. On Sunday, January 16, 2000 the
Ciechanow Church conducted inaugural
services to officially launch this program.
During this service we were asking God to
bless the six dedicated Christian families
who committed their lives to a new church
work in six cities in central Poland where

there are no Bible-believing churches.

Having left families, friends, work places
and local churches, they moved from their
previous cities of residence (Warsaw,
Olsztyn, Torun Wroclaw area) to their newly

designated locations. They came with one

purpose in mindto teach and preach the
Gospel of Christ, knowing that it will be the
Lord who will be adding to His Church
those who will be saved.

The

leadership of the

Ciechanow

Church, with whom GMM established a

congenial working relationship over the

past years, assumes spiritual oversight of
these new churches. The Church Planting
Mission is responsibile for the many orga
nizational aspects of these newly opened
church plants. For example, since January,
under its leadership, already daily Bible

classes have been conducted with these

church planters. The Church Planting

Mission will be organizing and conducting
times of fellowship and spiritual retreats for
these families and for the leaders of the

Ciechanow Church. It will be coordinating

the work of short-term mission groups who
will assist these churches from time to time.

GMM will continue to work closely with the

Ciechanow Church and with this Mission

local believers, our partners in Christ. What
a great task and responsibility is in their

faith, your testimony, encouraging one
another, smiling, shaking hands with a
stranger. Just let us know about it. But
probably most of you will not have such an
opportunity. Then pray with us. Send an
encouraging letter. Help us financially. All of
this is needed and it will be greatly appreci
ated.

port each one of these church planters'
families $200 per month. Now we are pray

accomplish this your help is needed . Ask
the Lord what He would have you do.
Introduce this very worthwhile project to

EVANGELISM THROUGH MUSIC

In our missionary activities in Central and

Eastern Europe music has always been an
effective tool of evangelism. We use our own
God-given talents of singing, playing and pro
claiming the message of Christ, but we are
always seeking out local national talents with
whom we can work in reaching their own people
for Christ.

One such evangelistically minded group of

national believers is "Missio Musica" of Poland.

This group grew out of a spiritual awakening

that God brought about on the campuses of
several academies and musical conservatories

in Poland during the final years of the commu

nist era. 'There was emptiness in the hearts of
many of us, students and professors alike," one
of them recently told us. "People were search
ing for higher purposes in life. There was
hunger for God." In one of these academies in
the city of Bydgoszcz, God used John, a
Christian student, to bring a whole school to

be allowed to speak."

GMM ministered with this group in all the

time, during the month of April we had an oppor

tunity to present a small number of this group of
accomplished musicians to our friends in the
United States and Canada. It is amazing how
the same message, framed in beautiful musical
presentation, touches people's hearts on both
sides of the ocean, for, as Scripture states, "we
all like sheep have gone astray" (Isa. 53) and
"all have sinned and fall short of the glory of
God" (Rom. 3).
We are happy to introduce this group of fine
Christian professional musicians to you. They

life with Christ and in the context of true

Christian fellowship?
Friends, we are excited about the oppor
tunities that God is giving us this summer to
live, to love and to serve Him. As in previ
ous years, Global Missionary Ministries will
be conducting and assisting local workers
in Poland, Ukraine, Lithuania and Belarus

Summer continues to be the best time to

teach our children and young people of

Central and Eastern Europe about the Lord
Jesus Christ. Church camps, sport activi
ties, Vacation Bible School programs, sum
mer clubs, music festivals, retreats, short-

term mission trips all of these and many

other innovative ways of bringing up our
youth under the clean, calm, yet exciting
influence of Christian living, brings desir
able results. It worked during the days of
communist oppression and it works now
during today's stress towards materialisti
cally-minded policies of a market economy.
I believe we shared with you sometime ago
a thought-provoking headline from one of
the Polish newspapers announcing a "new
religion in Poland," the supermarket. It real
ly does not make any difference to Satan
whether he will keep us from the Lord by
persecution or by some more appealing
method of pleasure or material gain. These
are the things that the people of Poland,
Belarus, Lithuania and Ukraine are begin
ning now to experience. At present many
children in these countries cannot afford to

attend our Christian camps any more. Cost

prevents them from having these few quiet,
yet exciting moments with the Lord and with
other young people. However, I would like
to ask the question, can we afford not to

give them the privilege of tasting this new

in different children and youth camps,

retreats and evangelistic activities. We
would like to inform you about them and
ask you to help us by praying for and spon
soring some of these efforts.
In late May we will have a group of
young people from Belarus at our camp in
Ostroda, Poland. This will be a group of
teenagers, mostly from non-churched fami

lies, that will meet and study the Bible.

Remember these teens and our local per
sonnel so that the Holy Spirit would mold
these young people into God's image and
bring them to a greater level of appreciation
for all that Jesus has done for them.

In June, at the same Ostroda Camp, we

will have a larger group of Jewish children

from Russia, Ukraine and Belarus. We pray

that all of them will arrive safely and will find
there a restful place for their bodies and
souls.

Later, throughout the summer there will

be many other groups of Polish children
and young people at this camp. We need to
remember them, their counselors and
teachers and other workers who will attend

that we can conduct this evangelistic out

reach to the youth of Central and Eastern
Europe. There are parents in these places
who are able to send their children to sum

mer camps, but many of them simply can

not afford it. We would like to help them
because we believe that it is not only fun,
food and fellowship that they need, but,
above all, they all need God. We would like
to provide them the opportunity of experi
encing a close relationship with the Lord.
According to our estimates, costs vary
to the children's physical and spiritual
needs.

On May 28 our coworker, Valya, in

Ukraine will be starting a camp for her
pupils, about 100 of them from the local
orphanage and school where she labors.

This will be an intensive evangelistic out

reach ministry. These children live in a gov
ernment-sponsored home because many
of them do not have parents, some have
parents that are in prison, while others

belong to dysfunctional families. We pray

that God will touch their hearts and wipe
away all tears and sorrow.

from place to place in terms of sponsoring

a child at one of our church camps in
Europe. On the average, though, it comes
out to about $5 per child per day. Could you
sponsor one child for a day or two, or for a
whole week? Or, possibly you or your
Sunday School group could sponsor two or
three children whom we can send this sum

mer to one of GMM's camps in Europe. You

can designate your contribution as "Camp
Fund" by sending it to our mission address.
Thank you very much! We will tell you more
about these activities in our next issue of
the "Crier."

In June we will also be conducting a

Vacation Bible School at the new church

property in Solechniki, Lithuania, where

Victor P. ministers. We will be assisted

there by a group of four fine young Christ

ians from Poland. Also, in Belarus our
involvements will be felt this summer

through the ministry of Vladimir, the director

of a church camp located on a former
Russian military base. Recently we had an
opportunity to assist Vladimir in promoting
this camp during his visit in Canada and the
United States.

Friends, as we have mentioned, we

would like to inform you about GMM's sum

mer involvements in Poland, Ukraine,

Lithuania and Belarus so that you can pray

with us about these efforts of outreach to

needy children and young people. But we

also would ask you to help us financially so

Excerpt from our coworker,

Valya's letter in Ukraine

"In our church in Lutsk from January 2 8 we were conducting special evangelistic
meetings for children. Up to 500 children
were present. One 12-year old girl from the
city orphanage was regularly attending and
faithfully bringing her younger brother.
A few days after the meetings Valya met
this young girl, Irene, in the orphanage and
learned that her brother just died.
"Even when we were coming to the
meetings," Irene told me, "he was not feel

ing good. He had a lung infection, but we

had no medicine and we were afraid to tell

anyone because they would not let us go.

Every morning during this week he insisted

that I hurry up and get going. 'I want to go to

God,' he would say."
Irene corrected him saying, "Listen, we
are not going to God; we're going only
where they teach us about God." But he
Insisted, "I see God there."

Valya continues to write: "It is for chil

GROWTH IN SPITE OF DIFFICULTIES

The Christians of Eastern Europe face var

ious difficulties in their lives and outreach

ministries. Just recently I spent time in

Ukraine and Belarus conducting Christian min
istry with national Christians. In spite of many
difficulties that they face, the believers contin
ue to preach the Gospel and are meeting with
success. This is seen in the many people that
are coming to Christ and being baptized. What
are some of the Christians' problems?
In Minsk, for example, churches are grow

ing and need more space. But right now it is

this very thing. But for our Slavic people in

Eastern Europe, this is a new thing and
requires some adjustment in their thinking.
Another crippling problem is financial and
economic instability in countries such as
Belarus and Ukraine. The Christians themsel

ves cannot support large construction projects.

As money becomes available (mostly from

Western sources), they build the next stage in
their project. The greatest problem in this is the
fact that wages are extremely low ($20 to $50
per month, if people get paid at all). One sis-

over the last few years in Minsk no church has
received permission to purchase land and put
a church building on it.
Good News Church is facing such a dilem
ma. They have to make a decision about their
future. First, they either need to expand their
present facility, or look for another piece of
property, where they will be able to build a
church with a seating capacity of 500 to 700.
But they cannot do this right now. However,
they have to do something to deal with their
increasing attendance. Their solution for now
they will begin conducting two identical Sunday
morning services and ask people to attend one
of them. For us. living in Canada and the USA,
this is nothing new. Many congregations do

Christians are finding it hard to support their

own churches, especially those that are still
putting up their new church buildings. They
look to fellow believers in richer Western coun
tries for assistance.

In spite of these difficulties, our brothers

and sisters in Christ are evangelizing their peo
ple. The churches continue to grow both in
cities, towns and small villages. Camps and
Daily Vacation Bible Schools are taking place
throughout Eastern Europe in many places.
We praise God for this and are thankful to Him
for the part He gives us and you in this out
reach with the Good News that Jesus saves.

So the Christians called a fast and prayed

STANDING TOGETHER

In August we had the opportunity to pre

sent the work of GMM at a large gathering
of Christians during the Wl-Ne-Ma Week of
Missions that was held at a beautiful setting
along the Pacific coastline of northwestern
Oregon. It was a wonderful time of fellow
ship with those present and a great oppor
tunity to share with them God's many bless
ings and new challenges that we face In our
work In Central and Eastern Europe.

We do this very thing whenever we are

in Poland, Belarus, Ukraine or Lithuania. As
a matter of fact, even here in North

America, where religious tolerance seems

to be stressed today to Its limits, we preach
the same truth, "for it is the power of God
for salvation of everyone who believes"
(Rom. 1:16).
Friends, we share these few thoughts
with you today because they are deeply
rooted in our hearts. They constitute the

of apostle Paul, as recorded in the
second and fourth chapters of his let
ter to the Phillppians. In addition to
various mission presentations, my
assignment was to speak on the subject of "Standing Together" for the
cause of the Gospel. I was very glad to
receive this assignment. It reinforced In me
God's voice by which He, for some time
already, had been speaking to my heart
about the Importance of His fundamental
teaching, that the Church of our Lord Jesus

Christ Is one (Eph. 4:4) and that the mission

of the Church is also one. We are to "go Into
all the world and preach the Good News"
(Mark 16:15) that "Christ died for our sins,
according to the Scriptures, that He was
buried, that He was raised on the third day"
(1 Cor. 15:3-4) and that some day soon He
will return (Acts 1:11).

foundation for our entire mission endeav

our. We like to stress the importance

of our standing together for the

cause of the Gospel, with you who

live here in North America, and with
all our many national partners who

live and work in those countries of

Central and Eastern Europe. We

believe that we are living In the last days,
about which Scripture states: "there will be
terrible times" (2 Tim. 3:1), "when men will
not put up with sound doctrine" (2 Tim. 4:3),
"they will turn their ears away from the
truth" (2 Tim. 4:4). We need to stand firmly

with all fellow believers today in the teach

ing and preaching of the Gospel In all of Its
purity and power. We need to work in unity
as one Body, the Church, directing the
world to Jesus only in whom salvation can
be found (Acts. 4:12).
May God help us all, as we stand and
serve our God together.

Getting the Gospel Out

to a Changing World

We live in a rapidly changing world.

Consider, for example, the whole area of
the computer and the Internet. Already the
business and secular world has accepted
this form of communication and promotion.
Christians have understood that they, too,
must use the Internet to get the message of
Christ out to the world. Many communicate

century we are launching our own website.

We are doing this for two reasons. First,
we would like to provide any individuals,
churches and any other groups the oppor
tunity to learn about us using the Internet.

There is another very important aspect

to this form of ministry. As a result of
changes that are taking place in Europe

Our website gives quick access to such

instruction seemingly has been going from
the West to the East only. We believe that

the essence of our organization, our history

and different forms of ministry and praise
notes and prayer requests. Informative arti
cles, including articles from the latest edi
tion of "The Crier," will appear as time pass

The second and most important reason

is it that we will develop pages in the Polish,

Christians to hear and consider what our
friends from the East can contribute to our

understanding from their point of view. We

will assist them in translating some of their
articles into English so that more people
can read what they have to offer for the rest
of the world.

We would like to inform you that Dima

and Lena Lazuta, together with their
coworkers from the Good News Church in

Dima and Lena Lazuta

Minsk, Belarus

Minsk, Belarus, have already established a

website in the Russian language. Recently
they shared with us that they have started a
new Christian magazine that has been
placed on their website. One of their church
members, Irina, has been working as editor
of this magazine. She is presently studying
philosopy in the Belarusian State University

and soon will

receive her Ph.D.

Dima

Lazuta writes the following: "She has been

a member of our church for 7 years and has
recently completed the first issue of our
magazine. If you could support her from
September, this will be excellent." Following
discussion we at GMM have made the deci

sion to that we would like to support Irina in

her ministry with the Lazutas. We want to
find interested people who would help
through their financial support of her.
Concerning the magazine itself, Dima
continues to write,".. .the name of our mag
azine is "Christian Culture." We are going to
evaluate different streams of social, cultural

and ethical life of our society through the

glasses of Biblical values. The magazine
address is: www.christ-culture.chat.ru. This

magazine is not a Good News Church mag

azine. We want to be an evangelical voice
in the Russian-speaking world, and the
main purpose of the magazine is evangelis
tic and apologetic."
We thank God that our coworkers in

Minsk have been able to place "Christian

Culture" magazine on the Internet and we
will provide a link to it on our website.
Furthermore, we will assist them to trans

late some of their articles into English so

that people with a knowledge of English
can also read and contemplate their mater
ial.

Another example of using the Internet

for communicating the Gospel Is that of our
coworker, Przemek Siczek in Warsaw,
Poland, who visited our offices last

February. Two years ago he began a suc

cessful Internet ministry presenting the
Gospel through music. He writes, "The pur
pose of our ministry is to reach Polish
young people with the Gospel of Christ in a
most relavent way through very popular
media of music and the Internet." At the
moment Przemek serves as the webmaster

of three websites in Poland: www.jezus.pl.

www.kdm.pl. and www.ewanaeliajDi.

He

Przemek Siczek

Warsaw, Poland

has stated, "About one thousand visit our

sites every day. It is, indeed, a vast mission
field that cannot be ignored." Przemek
helped us prepare the website page for
GMM's global Internet outreach with the
Gospel, which will serve different Slavic
peoples living in Central and East Europe
and around the world.

The message of Christ cannot and will

not change, but the methods used in reach
ing out to people do. Will this mean that we
hide behind some keyboard and screen
and stop seeing and ministering to people
on a face-to-face basis? Absolutely not!
What we have been doing on a person-toperson basis will continue, as before. We of
GMM will continue to travel to Poland,
Belarus, Ukraine and Lithuania to minister
with the local believers, our coworkers and,

thus, build the Church. Changes of the past

years call us to adjust our ministry to the
realities of our present day. We would invite

"IT CAME UPON THE MIDNIGHT CLEAR"

.1^ & ^
It might have been at the moment of "midnight clear" that the angel and a multitude of
the heavenly host appeared praising God and saying: "Glory to God in the highest, and on
earth peace, good will toward men." However, only a few shepherds heard this remarkable
heavenly proclamation. They heard and believed, and they obeyed the message. They
came in haste and found the Babe in a manger.
It must have been the most exciting moment of their lives. It gave them true joy and
peace as they thought about the things that the angels talked about. They could not hold it
any longer to themselves, so they rushed to the town sharing this "good news of great joy"
with all who were in their sphere of hearing.
The response, as we read in the Scripture, was interesting. People just "marveled at
those things which were told them."
Now, two thousand years later, the same song of the angels still can be heard: "Glory to
God in the highest," but do we hear it?

"For low, the days are hastening on

ies and friends from north-west churches. It

was a privilege for us to be able to travel by

car all across the United States with two Bible

College students from Poland, Ola Bajenski

and Ruben Karel, whom we are helping in
their studies through GMM's Benjamin
Bajenski Memorial Fund. I must admit that it
was a challenge to be together for 3 weeks, but
it was enjoyable and blessed our lives in many
ways.

For us, the year of 2000 was very eventful,

exciting and rewarding, both in our personal
lives and ministry. God blessed us with good
health and kept us busy. Behind us are many
miles of travel, answered prayers, opportuni
ties to witness and souls brought to the Lord.
However, one longing remained unfulfilled.
Jesus still did not return! But thanks be to God

for this, for He is so patient and not wanting

that anyone should perish (2 Peter 3:9). Thank
you, Lord, for still keeping Heaven's gates
wide open to this very day.
Of the last 365 days about 150 of them we
spent personally in Europe working with other
national Christians, preaching, teaching in
churches, camps, schools, orphanages, on the
streets, in cities and villages throughout Po
land, Lithuania, Belarus and Ukraine. God
blessed this work and many of those who lis
tened He added to His Church.

Approximately 90 days of this year we

spent in numerous short-term mission trips in
the United States, preaching and singing in
churches and representing GMM at various
conferences or camps. A real highlight for us
was attending the North American Christian
Convention held in Louisville, Kentucky.
Another slightly longer hike by car took us to
the state of Oregon to participate in Wi-Ne-Ma
Week of Missions. This was a special time of

Another special event that we were a part

of was a family wedding, that of Luke Bajenski,
son of my nephew, Andrew, and Urszula, his
wife, from Warsaw, Poland. The last few years
Luke has been studying in Bible College in
California. He invited us to marry him and
Marisa, his beautiful California bride. We could
not resist this happy family occasion, it took us

all the way to "blue" Hawaii.

The rest of our time this year we tried to
stay close to our homebase and GMM's office
in Mississauga, Ontario. Here there is always
much to do by way of studying, writing and stu
dio recording. While at home in the Toronto
area, we attended our local churches, whether

English, Polish or Russian, as we were occa

sionally called upon to serve.
Thus, another year of our lives has quickly
passed by. Actually, another century and even
millennium is passing, but the joy of serving
Jesus leads us on. His constant presence,
never-failing assurances and this most joyful
news, which was proclaimed by angels on that
silent, holy night is still with us. Thus, we anx
iously await that blessed hope, the glorious
appearing of our great God and Saviour, Jesus
Christ (Titus 2:13). We wish you the same,
dear Friends.

During this year we saw the publication of the book, "Old Testament

form of darkness, spiritual darkness, and the
time will come when God's light will appear and

in darkness have seen a great light; on those
living in the land of the shadow of death a light
has dawned" (Isaiah 9:2). We know that Jesus
was and still is God's light to the world. We
remember His coming during the Christmas
season and celebrate the fact that God's light
did, indeed, appear for our benefit.
This is the message that we have shared
with people in this passing year of 2000. And
what a privilege it has been! We feel so fortu
nate that, in partnership with you, our friends
and supporters, we at GMM have had another
year of opportunity to spread the "good news of

themselves in various ways:

of the city. Following this they formed a local
mission. We were able to introduce them to
some Christian friends from the United States

and South Korea and, through the combined

efforts of many of God's people, this wonderful
project has been developing during the last 8
years.

Soon after the beginning of the construction

project, a new congregation at the construction
site was started. They called their church (very
appropriately for this season) "Bethlehem
Church." Now they have 140 members and 200
children attend their weekly Sunday School pro
gram.
