DRY-TYPE CURRENT-LIMITING REACTORS 3-20 V

Purpose
SVEL Group designs and manufactures dry-type
current-limiting reactors with natural air-cooling for
power networks with 3-20 kV to limit short circuit
currents in power networks and to maintain the
voltage level in electrical installations in case of short
circuit:
from 50 t 8000 ;
inductive reactance from 0,1 t 2,5 hm;
pssible nonstandard reactor version, nd also
with angle between outputs different from 0, 90
and 180;
pssible phase position: vrtical, horizontal, stepped
(angular);
climatic modifications: moderate climate, moderate
cold climate, tropical climate;
plcment category 1, 2, 3, 4.
The innovations allow considerably reduce the
weight and dimensions of reactors in comparison with
concrete and other types of dry-type current-limiting
reactors.

the main current-limiting rcr design

elements
Reactor windings are made of the reactor
aluminum multiple-core cable, specially developed fr
SVEL reactors.
Multilayer winding design provides equal current
distribution in parallel wires without transposition
between them (the design is patented). Due to this,
the reactors have a higher electrodynamic and thermal
stability, owing small dimensions.
chanical strength is provided with the pressing
construction of the turns shrinkage, consisting of
insulating strips and vertical tightening rods

Benefits OF SVEL DRY-TYPE CURRENT-LIMITING REACTORS

DRY-TYPE CURRENT-LIMITING REACTOR 35 AND 132kV

Purpose
In 35 and 132kV electrical networks to prevent the short-circuit current increase up to values dangerous for
equipment, the installation of current-limiting reactors and ordinary circuit-breakers is alternative to application of
specialized circuit-breakers, cables and other expensive equipment designed for high short-circuit currents. In most
cases its more reliable and economically justified.

DESIGN
The principle design of current-limiting reactors 35
(fig. 1) and 132kV (fig. 2) has the following elements:
a winding made of aluminum multiple-core cable with
insulation from modern materials, pressing system, insulators, input and output busbars and a set of fasteners to fix the reactor with foundation. Windings have
a multilayer cylindrical design. The winding method
provides equal current distribution in parallel wires
(the design is patented). A qualitative winding pressing is provided with insulating plates and heat-treated
strips thus increasing the mechanical strength of the
whole reactor design. Reactors are made in horizontal
version.

The most important difference of 132kV reactor

design from the reactor designed for lower voltage is
the section winding division, and each section has its
own pressing system (fig.2), providing the increased
electrodynamic stability (the design is patented).

SHELL-TYPE CURRENT-LIMITING REACTOR

Purpose
Shell-type urrent-limiting reactors (hereinafter
shell-type reactors) as ordinary current-limiting
reactors serve to limit short-circuit currents (SC) and
to keep the voltage level of electrical installations at
the moment of SC.
The reactor feature it has the mgnetic circuit
concentrating the main electromagnetic field
created by winding. Outside the mgnetic circuit the
electromagnetic field effect is considerably less, it
allows to install phases near metal structures and
close to each other, saving the reactor chamber space.

Reactors are made of 3-20kV voltage classes,

2500-4000 rated current and with Inductive
reactance 0,35-0,56 Ohm. Climatic modification of
reactors for zones with cold, moderate, tropical climate
is according to GOST 15150-69 and 15543.1-89;
Placement category 3, 4 is according to GOST 15150-69;
Cooling type is Air Norm.

HIGH-FREQUENCY LINE TRAP

High-frequency line trap is an integral element of
high-frequency communication n phase wires and
cables of high voltage lines. The line trap function in
high-frequency communication n phase wires is to
attenuate the substation busbars shunting effect on
the line link parameters of high-frequency communication. The line trap is also used to attenuate the
shunting effect of high voltage lines.
The line trap consists of the inductance coil (reactor), setting element and overvoltage limiter. Reactor
of series line traps re rated 100-4000, inductance
0,2-2,5 millihenry. The reactor coil depending on the
rated current is made of one or several aluminum
wires, providing equal current distribution in parallel
wires. The reactor mechanical strength is provided by

CAPACITOR BANKS
Capacitor bank is one of the technical means to
compensate the reactive power. The capacitor bank
consists of the capacitors group where capacitors are
connected to each other in series and in parallel being
installed on the metal frame (fig.1). The capacitor bank
overall dimensions and number of capacitors depend
on the required power. Capacitor banks are made of
voltage classes 6-230 kV rated from 5 t 200 Vr.
Climatic modification for zones with tropical climate
is according to GOST 15150-69 and 15543.1-89, placement category 1, 2, 3 is according to GOST 15150-69,
cooling system is Air Norm.

Application of capacitor banks enables the electrical network transmitting capacity increase and reduces the consumed reactive power cost. The capacitor bank main advantages: minor active power losses
(0,3-0,45 kW per 100 kVr); simpler and less expansive exploitation in comparison with other compensating devices; possibility to increase and decrease the
set power depending on the requirement; possibility
to be installed in any point of the power network (at
separate power consumers, in groups in workshops or
in big capacitor banks).
