Are You Caught in the Rat Race?

Avoid Burnout Before It Happens

BAD NEWS: No one wins the rat race.

I KNOW burnout from personal experience.

Because everyone ends up looking like a rat.

It cost me my health, my relationships, the vibrancy of my faith,

and the happiness of my work.

No matter how cute Mickey Mouse is, I dont want to look

like one.
American author and philosopher Henry David Thoreau said,
The mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation.

But everywhere I look now, I see burnout in so many people

around me. Its the new epidemic.
MERS is nothing compared to this soul-killing disease.

Friend, are you sick and tired of the complicated, knotty, and discombobulating life
youre living?

Why is burnout spreading like wildfire?

Are you sick and tired of the crazy chaos

happening around you? And are you sick and
tired of the noise inside you?

Because its cool when youre extremely busy.

Because its fashionable.

Because its rewarded. Your boss will praise

you when he sees you burning the two ends
of the candle. (Do you know how bosses
reward workaholics? With more work!)

Are you sick and tired of the endless

payments you must make, for stuff that youve
already used and now need to be replaced?
(Aaaaarrrrrrgh!)
Are you sick and tired of being sick and tired?
Do you desire peace? Contentment?
Simplicity?
My message to you: God did not make
you a rat.

Today, I stay clear from burnout by watching

for the signs that I had during that difficult
season of my life. See if you have any
of them:
FLASH! Bro. Bo Sanchez led Grand Feasts in Australia early this month,
blessing hundreds of Filipinos and their Australian friends with God's
Word. Shepherd's Voice Radio and Television Foundation, a partner
beneficiary of Kerygma Family, helped Bro. Bo mount the Grand Feasts.
Thank you again and again for supporting KFAM! -- Photo collage by
Randy Borromeo, SVRTV vice president for Operations.

Get off the Rat Race, whatever the Rat Race means to you.
No, Im not telling you to resign from your job.
Instead, get off the Race that youre racing inside you.
Im telling you to examine all the races --projects, goals,
ambitions, addictions, obsessions-- that you feel youre in right
now, and ask yourself, Why did I join this race? Should I
be in it?
The race to please certain people. The race to have a certain
number of toys.
The race to achieve a specific definition of success.
Friend, welcome to The Simple Life. I know it will be a powerful
life-changing experience for your life. Open up your heart to
Him!

I was always tired. Even after waking up in

the morning after supposedly a good nights
rest, I wake up already exhausted.
I dreaded to go to the office.
I became depressed. Many times, I felt helpless at the difficulties and conflicts that I was facing at work.
I doubted myself so much. I lost confidence and wondered
what in the world was I doing in my job. I wanted out.
I was more susceptible to psychosomatic illnesses, like
frequent colds or stomach problems.
Researchers state that there are certain jobs that are prone to
burnout. Example? Helping professions-- like doctors, nurses,
clergy, missionaries, counselors, social workers, and teachers.
And high-pressured positions, such as executives and
business persons.
Hey. You may not have the symptoms I describe above. Nor are
you working in the professions I listed .
Open your heart and let God speak to you today.
Please turn to page 2

Im praying it will be a miraculous teaching for you.

Big Day: Trust

See the Divine of the Ordinary

How Deep Is Your Trust in God?

I LOVE what English writer and theologian G.K. Chesterton said:

There are two ways to get enough: one is to continue to
accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

IMAGINE if one morning, you woke up, peered through the

window, and found pan de sal lying on the road.

If you want to really be happy, you need to learn this very

important skill: To see the divine of the ordinary. Because if you
develop the capacity to suck all the joy that simple life has to
offer, youll always be happy no matter what happens.
Im not ashamed to say that the simple act of walking around
my little village every morning gives me so much pleasure.
Because I surround myself with Gods beautiful creation. The
sky above me. The happy trees. The semi-polluted air around
me. (Just being honest.) Its still all beautiful.
Some have made owning a Rolls Royce the source of their
pleasure. Or taking a Luxury Cruise in Europe. Or buying
diamonds. Hey, theres nothing wrong with these things, per
se. But if you have to do these things to be happy, youll be
rarely happy.
Ive chosen the simpler path: If I can date my wife, or chat with
my boys, or take a quiet stroll under a canopy of stars, or read a
good book in my home, or laugh with friends over pizza, I
consider myself richly blessed.
My message: Focus on what you have, not on what you
dont have.

Lots and lots of pan de sal.

Thats what happened to the Israelites one day when they woke
up one morning in the desert between Egypt and the promised
land. They saw manna spread across the desert sands.
Through the manna, God was teaching them a certain attitude
that I believe is the foundation of simplicity.
Manna says, Trust in God totally.
Manna says, Everything you have really comes from Him.
Manna says, Expect surprising miracles every day!
Learn these lessons well.
I believe this is the only way to really relax.
To inwardly rest.
To simplify.
To be at peace.

Because satisfaction doesnt come from getting what you want,

but wanting what you already have.

May the Lord heal you today!

Think about it.

Live on less and delight in them more.

Simple

THIS issues theme is simple. Its as simple as

Simplicity, the July talk series of Bro. Bo Sanchez
along with the other preachers in The Feast, the
Light of Jesus Familys prayer gathering.

In past issues, we serialized the talks in three

issuesor a total of three months. So you wont
have to wait that long to get to the end of the
series, we give you Bro. Bos summary of
the series.
You may access copies of the entire series
in various online sites which we provide
at the end of the
talk summary.
Yes, following the Simplicity lessons, we
simplify, we simplify so we can focus on
the essentialwhat God has purposed
us to be,what His mission for us in this
ephemeral life.
In this regard, you will love the story
of Orange Garcia. He turned down

lucrative job offers in the corporate world, left a charmed life in

the United States, and came home to the Philippines to focus on
one single mission: help build our nation. That simple. In the
process, he has been rewarded with the desire of his
heart, page 3.

Even our testimony in this issue is a brief, simple, yet heartwarming thank you note from our Kerygma Family sis,
Raquel Prieto, page 4.
So I will close with a simple, one-sentence Bible verse on simplicity quoted by Bro. Bo from Ecclesiates 7:29: I find that God made
man simple; mans complex problems are of his own devising.

A Perfect Gift
Named Jacob
By Orange V. Garcia

MY wife Ella and I lived a charmed life in

the United States. But still, a passion to be
of service to our country nagged me no
end. Ella felt the same longing, so we
decided to come back home in 2008.
In the Philippines, I turned down lucrative
offers from the corporate world to stay on
track with my mission.
I now serve in a small school in Las Pinas
which my mother founded more than 35
years ago.
When people ask me what I do, I simply
answer them that I'm a nation-builder. I
truly believe that my service to the school
is fully aligned to my mission of building
a nation of nation-builders-- one child at
a time, and one family at a time.
Ella shares my core mission. She leads the
company that her father founded more
than 20 years ago, which provides
world-class animal nutrition to our local
poultry and swine farmers.
Our Way
In August last year, I was invited to the
United States to be a certified coach,
trainer, and speaker for the Manila team
of John Maxwell, the world renowned
international leadership expert.
I decided to bring along Ella. But just a
few days before we were to leave for the
U.S., our world turned upside down.
You see, Ella and I have been married for a
decade now, and we are still working on
our first child.
We went to the extent of going to Taiwan
to undergo In Vitro Fertilization (IVF). The
doctors told us that there was no way for
us to conceive a child naturally.
But after the IVF procedure failed, to our
surprise, we ended up getting pregnant.
We were ecstatic. But only for a while. On
Ellas eighth week of pregnancy, a routine
checkup showed the heartbeat of the
baby in her womb had stopped.
We were, to say the least, devastated.
Hoping against hope, we decided to
undergo a second IVF procedure. We
begged God to give us back the child
we lost.
It is often said that God answers
prayersnot necessarily according to our
terms, but in His own perfect way. We
didnt realize it then, but indeed God was
well on His way in granting our prayer.

of Grace To Be Borns sixth anniversary on May 8, 2015.-- Photo by Ed. L. Santiago

Gods Way
My best friend happens to be George Gabriel who, when we moved back to Manila in
2008, was serving as worship director at The Feast, the Light of Jesus Familys prayer
gathering led by Bro. Bo Sanchez, which at the time was being held at the Valle Verde
Country Club in Pasig City.
Bro. George invited us to attend The Feast. We attended and from there, we came to
know about the Grace To Be Born shelter for unwed mothers, and the Tahanan ng
Pagmamahal, an orphanage, both spearheaded by Bro. Rey Ortega and supported by
Bro. Bo and the Light of Jesus.
One time, Bro. Rey and Sis. Rissa Singson Kawpeng, a board member of Grace To Be
Born, who also serves as editor-in-chief of Kerygma inspirational magazine, invited Ella
and me to visit the shelter.
We were told Grace To Be Born aims to save babies from abortion. To prevent abortion
of unwanted pregnancy, Grace provides an alternative to the mother: board and
lodging, plus livelihood skills training and spiritual nourishment, throughout her
pregnancy -- all without any cost or obligation to the mother-- just to give her baby a
chance to be born into the world.
I was interested since I wanted to see how we could help out. So Ella and I visited
Grace. There, in one of the cribs, this baby boy smiled at us, reached out to us, we held
his hands, and since then, life was never the same again for us.
We adopted the boy and named him Jacob.
Reflecting on our journey, Ive realized there are three significant details surrounding
our meeting Jacob.
First, Jacob was born on May 21, 2014-- the date we tested negative for our second IVF
procedure. As we asked God to give us back the son we lost in miscarriage, little did we
know, God was already bringing to life the son He has meant for us.
Second, we celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary on September 5, 2014 --which
was the day we arrived in Manila from our trip to the U.S. It was also the day we started
spending time with Jacob. From the airport, we went straight to the Grace shelter.
The number 10 represents perfection. So we realized our perfect God gave us the
perfect gift at the perfect time.
And third, the name Jacob means supplanter. To supplant is to replace. And that is
what Jacob has done in my own life.
Jacob supplanted my fears with faith.
Jacob supplanted my dread with dreams.
And Jacob supplanted my loss with love.

Ask ...

Again I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything they
ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven.
